GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Flyers (02.25.24) | Crosby Chalks Up 4-Point Game

- For the fourth and final time in the 2023-24 regular season, the Pittsburgh Penguins faced off against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday afternoon. Minutes into the game, the Flyers struck first on a shot by Travis Sanheim. The Penguins responded. Rickard Rakell shot the puck on net from the point. Bryan Rust tipped the shot and Sidney Crosby collected the rebound and put the puck in the back of the net, tying the game. Following their first goal, Rust scored his fifth goal in seven games. On another shot from the point, this time by Marcus Pettersson, Rust tipped the puck again. This time his redirection of the puck went around the Flyer goaltender to give the Penguins a one-goal lead by the end of the 1st. The Flyers got a quick goal once again to start the 2nd period by Tyson Foerster tying the game at two goals each. The Penguins later received a power-play opportunity in the 2nd. With some precision passing, Erik Karlsson drew the Flyer over to him before dishing the puck into space for Rust to score his second goal of the afternoon. Following up minutes later, and once again on the power-play, Emil Bemstrom collected the puck below the goal line and skated it out in front. With no Flyers challenging him, Bemstrom threw the puck on the net and got his first goal as a Penguin. The Flyers cut the Penguin’s lead in half with a blast off the faceoff by Sanheim for his second of the game. Before the period was over, Philadelphia scored once again on a broken play on a shot by Scott Laughton. The score at the end of the 2nd was tied 4-4. Early in the 3rd, Drew O’Connor snuck a low-angle shot into the net to take the lead again. Minutes later, Crosby passed the puck behind the net to on the other side of the ice. Rickard Rakell quickly stepped over the goal line and roofed the puck to take a 6-4 lead. But just as before, the Flyers answered with a goal by Cam York. Late in the game, Crosby entered the zone and curled back, maintaining possession. Crosby passed to Kris Letang at the point. Letang threw a knuckle puck towards the net that bounced around and found the back of the net. The Flyers scored one more goal before the end of the end of the game. Foster scored on the power play for his second of the game. The final horn couldn’t come fast enough for Pittsburgh. The Penguins won 7-6 in regulation.

Crosby is now 18 goals from 600 goals and 20 assists from 1000 assists in his remarkable career.
I wonder which of these milestones he'll reach first.
Normally, the assists would be an easy call, but he sure is getting a lot of goals this season. @dzidziolus
Biggest win of the season. Showed tons of heart. Offense came through in a game where Jarry needed them to. All against our biggest rival as well. Be proud of this one.

@@rugheadedporchmonkey goalies have bad games. Jarry has been solid the whole season. Games like this happen. Both goalies gave up a ton of goals.
@@SmallBallPokergoalies fall on their assets constantly while jumping around like a kid . Nah, Jarry just not all together. It’s as he’s a goalie 99% of the time then forgets.
@@ironcity4182Jarry has actually played great in the clutch. Problem is fans have short memories & always focus on the bad. Jarry might not be as good as Fleury was in the clutch. But Jarry has handled himself well in a lot of big games this year. The pressure got to him today which is obvious. But one game doesn’t define you.

What a game!!! Let’s go pens!!! Man it just seems like this year we get no good puck bounces gotta fight for everything and the opponents get all kinds of luck and bounces. One of those years I guess
Yup...only a few games the entire year were we got the puck luck...it's really hard to believe. Jagr told a lot of the players to shoot when open and not mess around and since Jags was with the team last week we're shooting from all angles and actually scoring some goals.

I will admit, on half of the goals, it was an absolute defensive breakdown. But the other three? Yeah he had a lot of clear sight lines on shots. W/E, win is a win, eh?

Amazingly fun win...especially since BOTH goalies sucked horribly in the same game !! Pens had SEVEN goals in only 31 shots ( at the moment of scoring number seven ) gotta be one of the better goal/shot ratio games in a LONG time !!

There were soooo many points by both sides. They couldn't show all the close shots and other highlights of the game. They could only show the goals to keep the recap within recap time length. Lol.
