GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Rangers, Game 3 (05.07.22) | Scoring Throughout the Lineup

- As the series shifted to Pittsburgh, one of the many storylines was-while the Penguins’ stars were delivering-there needed to be more depth scoring. Consider that question answered. Brock McGinn scored an unassisted goal to start things off under two minutes into the contest. Kakko answered for New York a few minutes later, but that tie would be short-lived. Evan Rodrigues launched a puck from the blue line, it went into Shesterkin’s glove, bounced onto Jeff Carter, and into the net. Then, Rodrigues scored two goals of his own to round out the 1st period scoring, with the Penguins leading, 4-1. The Rangers were ready to bounce back in the 2nd period. Georgiev took over the net for Shesterkin, and the Rangers scored three times, with tallies from Vatrano, Panarin, and Copp. Through 40 minutes of play, each team had controlled one period. It would come down to the 3rd. A little over midway through the final period, Danton Heinen found the back of the net to give the Penguins a 5-4 lead, which they would not relinquish. Jake Guentzel scored into an empty net for his fourth tally of the series, and Jeff Carter put the puck into the vacated net as well. Nine different Penguins players recorded at least one point (including netminder Louis Domingue), with Carter (2G), Sidney Crosby (2A), Mike Matheson (3A), McGinn (1G-1A), and Rodrigues (2G-1A) each having multi-point efforts. With this victory, Mike Sullivan has tied Dan Bylsma's franchise record for the most playoff wins by a head coach in Penguins history (43).

@@bryanwoomer4465 He‘s all we got at the moment. And yes, it didn’t look great and some of the goals shouldn’t have been goals. But he still saved all 9 shots when he needed to in the last period which made it possible to win this game. So let’s be grateful

Was there tonight what a crazy game. All that talk about secondary scoring well you got it tonight brother. Didn't notice it until the replay but what was(or wasn't ) Matheson doing on the Vatrano goal? Just kinda letting the puck go by? Yikes. Loved Boyle's check on Schneider and the pass to Rodrigues! You just knew NYR were gonna come out flying in the 2nd. That was a scary 20 minutes(and the 3rd was pretty nerve-racking too LOL) but LOUIE held the fort. Like he said tonight afterwards just one game at a time. Stay focused boys, you can do this!
Oh yeah, The chants of EEEEGORRR! were great too!
I thought the same thing about Matheson. Looked like an easy pick off or block.

If the Penguins play the way they did in the first and third period, they will win this series. The Rangers had no answer when The Penguins were on the attack. That second period though, that was the worst period I've ever seen.
Zucker definitely made an impact that hit on Adam Fox, WOW. Secondary scoring finally showed up.
I expect a very competitive game 4 on Monday Night.

Great game and fantastic effort guys! Keep it up. It’s wonderful that Rodrigues got not just one but two and nearly a few more and Heinen scored. And always awesome to see the best of Boyle, McGinn, Carter, and all. And a hard working, grand game for Louis!

The puck when in & out of glove and in the net, I don't think Carter touched it.

Whoever took the bait and the +350 odds that Geuntzel would score and Crosby would have at least 2 points cashed in, but not until the last 2 minutes.
The assist Crosby made on the last goal was sublime. How many players que that up in their cranium as the play is developing?
I still think Pens loose this series, huge fan just not a meatball or a homer/yinzer. Rangers come out hitting very hard in game 4 and Pens unravel, then downhill frome there. Hope I'm wrong.

Looks like Domingue has a glove hand like Matt Murray....and the Rangers know it. Hopefully he can remedy that by the next game.
Maybe so. I saw that one of the goals looked like he lowered his shoulder to snag it with his glove and it hit his shoulder and went it. Probably would have had a better result using his body to block it. But it's way easier to watch the film afterwards and point that out. He was doing what he thought would stop that shot at the time. That is a choice goaltenders make when defending certain shots from certain angles.
So I think rather than him probably having a bad glove hand or something, it may be how he chooses to utilize it.
It's kind of like in baseball when fielding a ground ball. Sometimes it's better to square up and put your body behind your glove, rather than trying to just rely on your catching skills but putting your glove out there.
That's my view anyway lol

Erod got that goal they gave to Carter. Video shows in glove, brings glove down and is thrown into his own legs. Didn't touch Carter only glove did.
Unfortunatly no they kept it a Carter goal it was reviewed by the nhl

Funniest replay, after the 5th Pens goal, at 8:48, the camera is on the celebrating crowd, and some happy fan leans over and tries to plant a kiss on his girlfriend (or whoever she might be), and she puts her hands up and wants nothing to do with the guy, "Oh no no no no no." Pens may have scored, but that dude didn't. LOL
