there's a lot of skill and knowledge behind doing this right... far from easy money for most people unless they're cutting corners... easy money for you because you know what you're doing! Awesome work. Fun to watch a job done right.
Love the work and attention to detail. Great to see us doing this type of work and training the younger men how to conduct business and stay gainfully employed. Great job Allen Construction!!!
I love the way you narrate your videos, and more so your skill at your business. I can not go without saying that you are an experienced successful black business. Goes to show that other races are not the only ones that can have and operate a good construction business. Much fortune to you all.
Looking awesome man! Just came across your channel. I’m out of GA. I pour concrete. It’s great to see you have attention to detail & make sure you are quality over quantity. Love to see hard work turn out well!
Hey @ajt do you work for a concrete company? I am in GA in the Gwinnett area and looking for a good company that can pave a driveway. May I have the name of your company?
I’m trying to talk my husband into getting our front wall and steps redone, 40 yrs of minimum attention shows. Glad you are in Pittsburgh, we are in the west hills area, not far from the airport.
I’ve just started hardscaping not a lot of walls and stairs like that. We do concrete and masonry and excavating (utilities, demolition, clearing). We mostly use Cambridge and nicolock pavers. Looks good fellas keep up the good work.
Yeah, I counted seven courses without the cap. People think just because it's under 4ft Geo-Grid isn't needed. However, that wall has a lot of dirt behind it which translate to psi. And the psi of that hill should have had Geo-Grid. In fact, that hill should have been excavated and backfilled with rock along with Ge-Grid a minimal of 4ft (even 6ft) into the hillside. I can't count how many times I've repaired this type of situations over the past 32 years of business. Not a question of if but when it's going to move! Otherwise, nice work!
GREAT JOB!! from fella hardscaper !! do those steps/ wall bend a lil too the left? either way looks great I have installed hundreds of these walls and slab steps !!
Nice trabajó me gusta mucho la construcción anterior mente lo hacía con mi patrón pero ya me retire por lesión pero sigo amando el trabajó duró y rudo..
Yea man! We’ve been running into problems where the block is about a 1/4 inch off. It’s the weirdest thing. It’s like they’re just rushing the whole process and giving us anything. They honestly got a monopoly going on with these retaining wall blocks.
My only concern is the base. Hand tampers only? Did you use a Power Compactor or Leveling Vibrating Plate? Maybe that West Pennsylvania soil doesn't require it like here in NorCal. Anyhow looks solid ..good luck
Hey awesome video, I am just curious how did you get the schematic designs what software or thing did you use I am just curious because it helps visualize what you’re going to do for the job
I've never seen the powered wheel barrow before, you have some cool toys. Can tell you're doing your homework on materials and application procedures, people overlook this part that contracting is almost always a learning experience and it's constantly changing. One thing I did notice is there is a bit of drainage area heading toward your wall and house, using drain rock/river rock whatever you want to call it with some pvc perf pipe wrapped in fabric on the backside of your wall would help keep water away from the home and I assume future slab.
@@allenconstruction I was noticing the same thing, found myself wondering what you were going to do about water taking out your wall over time, you didn't show the drainage going in, would have been nice to see how you did it.
Good question! We use woven geo-textile for its strength and to separate the sub grade from the aggregate. If we were to do a driveway or even permeable pavers we would use non-woven on our second lift! Thank you for watching!
Finally finding a Pittsburgh based contractor on YT who does top quality work!
I am hearing the accent a little now that I read this 😊
Looks good and wonderful to see younger generations putting in an honest day of work. Best wishes to your company and your crew.
You guys are awesome! I would hire you in a second.

It’s all common sense really… too bad common sense anit that common

guys great job. nice to watch you. I am from Russia, doing concrete work, laying blocks. Good luck.
That powered wheel barrow is the coolest thing I've ever seen.

We only have 1 vender in my area that offers Nicolock. It’s all Lampus, Unilock, and Techbloc where we are. Thank you for watching!
The attention to detail takes this from a construction job to an art piece.
Absolutely!
Excellent job you did, looks great!
Thank you!!
Looks great!
Thanks!
Love the stone steps💜💜💜 Nicely done, Allen and Crew!!!
Looks beautiful. Why no geo grid for wall support?
Looks fantastic. Great work!

Great work!
Thanks!
Beautiful.
I'm 20 years building & still haven't mastered this skill
Looks great. No geogrid?
Thank you! The retaining wall is only 3 feet so we went without it.

Nice job! Can I ask the bedding material between first layer and base rock?
thats really nice ,,, what would the whole job cost , roughly ?
Nice job

It takes a toll on your body so we try to work smarter with better machinery and techniques. Thank you for watching!
@@allenconstruction yes.. cool
The mud and occasional rain adds difficulty to the task at hand, but you guys are handling it well, wish you were in my area.
Absolutely! Thank you for watching.
Where do they make the precast. Very nice work and the material looks like Elberton grey granite.
amazing video!!! dont you need a french drain beside the house as well?
Bro 16:30 where you get these motorized wheel barrows ?!
Beautiful work, what type and where can I buy those block?
Cool video man. I own a hardscape business in Lancaster. Have you notice the quality in Versa lok wall block going way down in the last 3 years?
Yea man! We’ve been running into problems where the block is about a 1/4 inch off. It’s the weirdest thing. It’s like they’re just rushing the whole process and giving us anything. They honestly got a monopoly going on with these retaining wall blocks.
Will, over time, the stacked blocks maintain its position without a wide solid rebared concrete base ?
Doesn't the (plastic?) sheet under the gravel prevent drainage? What is the reason for using it?
My only concern is the base. Hand tampers only? Did you use a Power Compactor or Leveling Vibrating Plate? Maybe that West Pennsylvania soil doesn't require it like here in NorCal. Anyhow looks solid ..good luck
That backyard is drainage nightmare fuel
Really cool project and video, thanks! Would you mind telling me what make/brand clamps you using to lift the steps and the retaining wall blocks?
Nice work
Thank you for watching!
Hey awesome video, I am just curious how did you get the schematic designs what software or thing did you use I am just curious because it helps visualize what you’re going to do for the job
Im from the Lehigh Valley. I was out in Pittsburgh last summer. You guys accents are different 😂 Nice work though
Hello, was this over 50 yards of gravel base for the whole project?
Great video! what software do you use for design?

Nice work! I watched your videos out of order but still great.
What software do you use to do your renderings?
will that number nine finer material eventually fall through the voids of the bigger fractured material below??
Using the motto east money lol where did you get that lol
I am not a construction guy but I like to learn. What kind of stones you use to set the first row of the wall? I saw You use 2 times of gravel
What tool are you using to lift the stones
Африканцы какие молодцы, работают! Даже рэп не слышно
Beautful work wish i had you guys do some work for me
Instead of glueing the corner where u can’t get 2 pins in could u drill through the block to put the second pin in ?
Very nice
good job
So how would you calculate costs of the job and the timeframe in completing the job? How much would this project cost? Just curious brother.
I'll have a similar backyard on my new build. Have you posted costs anywhere? I combed the comments and didn't find anything. Looks good
Damn I've never seen a wheelbarrow with a motor before!
Haha we have two of them! they pay for themselves. Thanks for watching.
what did you quote for this job? You in pittsburgh?
Great work! DIY’er here. Looks like you used woven geotextile there - curious why that instead of the more permeable non-woven?
Good question! We use woven geo-textile for its strength and to separate the sub grade from the aggregate. If we were to do a driveway or even permeable pavers we would use non-woven on our second lift! Thank you for watching!
Great content! How many coarse up do you pin? Just the bottom two?
What landscape design program do you use?
what does a project like this cost out of curiosity? thanks! can be a rough number.
How did you design it? What app?
Interested to know the cost, I know it’s regional but what are we looking at here 30 - 40k. In the ballpark?
looks good to me.
where you get your #9 stone at? i was trying to find that for a patio i did and no one had it
What design software do you use? And how much is it?
How is the only pair of muddy pants always sitting in the excavator lol
Gimme that shovel! 😂
Right! 😂 Thank you for watching.
I wish they were in Arkansas
Did you glue the outside corners as well? Also, is there any importance to gluing the overlapping part of the steps to each other?
What lifter are you using I want to buy one
Enjoyable video tho, might take some more time and improvements but looks like you are right on track in that regard 👍
Will do! Thank you for watching.
How much would a project like this cost?
Did I miss the drainage?
My are doesn’t have basements much but doesn’t the machine put alot of pressure in the walls
very nice
Thank you Linda!
