I think when the father asked for proof that his daughter was still alive, they went to get said proof, maybe an audio recording of her voice, and when they saw she suffocated, they abandoned the whole plan and that's why the kidnappers broke all contact after that point.
They certainly took a huge chance on her dying under there though. And they probably didnt give a shit that she did die. Unbelievable what that poor poor baby faced.
I agree with you for the sheer fact that they left her snacks not just moldy bread or anything but snacks that a kid would like soda pop and candy and books meaning they probably didn't want her to get bored or thirsty and they probably expected her to be okay

I’ve read about this, her school mates did it, she was in on it she didn’t fight only when she realised she was getting no oxygen. The school mates screwed up the pipe work that would have given her oxygen. They wanted some money. She had no bruises because she got in on her own.

There is evidence that one trait of serial killers is that they like to kill innocent animals. This shows no mercy to innocent creatures which translates into ill treatment of small children or elderly people. It is very important for parents to encourage children from a young age to treat animals well. Give them a pet and show them how to take care if the pet and nurture it. Eventually this act will develop a caring and good character in the person and they will reflect these behaviors as an adult.

I see similarities between putting a dog in a freezer and putting a child, alive, in a crate buried in the ground. Being significantly in debt and trying to extort a ransom, while incidental to the crime, I think also points to the right person having been convicted.

It’s hard to believe that none of the material used in the building of the ‘box’, could not be traced back to the accused. Also, all the provisions, books, radio and etc.
It was the 80's. How many people do you think paid with credit card? Got recorded on cameras in the shops? Could the police "run it in the system"? Unless the shopkeeper remembered that specific item being bought by a person they could fully describe... you can forget about it.

The standard of "...Beyond a reasonable doubt" is a part of the U.S. court system standards. This was West Germany. In much of Europe, the accused must prove he or she is innocent.
I assume the auntie and uncle were looked at since they were the last to see her alive? Were they in financial trouble and thought they'd be able to make some quick money? The fact that the child was hidden with lots of treats such as chocolate and comic books, makes me think that whoever it was not only didn't want her hurt, but that they wanted her to be 'happy'. It's like it was someone who 'cared' about her. I can't see the dog killer leaving her with treats. Someone like him would probably just leave her with the bare minimum to keep her alive! And let's not forget that the person/s who did this would have to be so familiar with the little girl that they knew she'd be travelling through the woods alone at that particular time. And since it was an unplanned visit to her cousin's house, surely no one else would have been expecting her to pass through the woods at that time of the evening?
Why not the police officer? Odd that he found the box by poking it with a stick. Why? Why did he even think to poke the ground? And it wouldn’t be the first time that a police officer committed a crime.

This is a hard one. He...it just doesn't seem like they have that much to go on with their alleged suspect, and meanwhile the boarding school is right there and the idea it's a staff member or even a student, IMO, holds a lot of water and should at the least be looked into. The juvenile seeming note, the car, the comics, even the supplies being largely candy and treats. This sounds...like a younger person who almost thinks they can make the abduction feel like a vacation. A juvenile might be smart enough to know a sunken box needs a vent for air, but not smart enough to know it needs mechanical assistance of some kind. It explains the location - middle of tthe woods is a weird place for someone to be coming and going from in an abduction case unless you literally live at a school nearby and can readily access this spot without raising suspicion. Plus, right, plus, a boarding school back then (any school back then really) would have a really well stocked science lab, and may even have had bottles of ether or chloroform in supply. Schools back then would often require students to dissect animals and back in the day they'd have you ether the animal to death beforehand. You'd soak a rag or cotton bull in ether or something similar, put it in a jar with the mouse or frog or whatever, seal it and leave the animal to suffocate. (I am aware the vile irony of what I'm describing in this particular case). This might explain how the abductor accessed something to drug her with, if it was just in the school lab that they can readily access.
I have the same feeling that you do. Like this was a teenage boy who planned and poorly executed this abduction and ransom requests. So many beginner mistakes and juvenile letters, language, and even the candy and cookies.

It’s an odd case but I’m not personally convinced it was a child, although I think a connection with the school somehow is def a high possibility.
I like your way of thinking, but I would extend it to the school staff - not necessarily a teacher but also a maintenance worker or a janitor. They would have knowledge and access to chloroform, would know what kids like to eat/drink, and perhaps even possess some comic books found/stolen/taken from the students.

I'm not letting Werner off the hook just yet, as a person capable of putting a dog in the freezer is definitely fully capable of putting a child in the box, plus there was a motive, proximity and experience in carpentry work, but investigating the school could have revealed an accomplice or provided some proof, especially if chloroform was found missing, and perhaps some fingerprints. It's really a missed opportunity. - BTW, was there a carpentry workshop in the school, I wonder? Gardening tools that might have been investigated for soil particles?
I was at roughly the same age as Ursula and live in the neighboring German state Baden-Wűrttemberg. I vividly remember all the media coverage of that case. I tried to imagine how she must have felt sitting in that box in the woods. I do believe the man they put into prison was not the perpetrator. There seems to be no real proof he did it. They just needed a scapegoat and fast progressed in the case.
It’s like they were just fixated on their suspect, unless they have something else that they are not sharing, in my opinion, there’s too much doubt. I just hope that they find DNA evidence that they can use to find the guilty party or parties. They really need to go back to the beginning and re investigate like the crime happened yesterday.

It looked just like she was totally under, chloroform or whatever they used and whether they used too much or it was too much with no circulating source of air, I don't think she knew. She may have been grabbed from behind with the soaked rag and other than a quick clip of heartbeat she never knew what hit her. I pray that's how it was. She woke up with the angels. Agreed, absolutely. It's got that feel of being...some parts have been thought over too much, some nowhere near enough. The candy feels juvenile, like, an adult would just supply water and basic snacks and nowhere near that huge supply of comics and books (which can theoretically all be traceable evidence, which a grown up might consider, a teen would not even realise). Knowing to include an air vent, but not knowing to add a pump to circulate air feels juvenile. And I'd argue a student in the school could easily have access to ether or chlorofom because school science labs back then could potentially be really well stocked with a surprising array of chemicals. If the boarding school had ether on supply for dissection lessons the abductor could have accessed it.

The students who found the copper bell wire that later was found to be acted as an alert system, why when they found it was it kept locked in a box in the boarding school dormitory? They found it after chasing an Owl in the woods? Don't know I believe this and no fingerprints of the students, how old were they exactly? This part seems weird to me!
Also the drug used in boarding schools to kill frogs etc for dissection could that be the reason for the marks found on the victims larynx if it was used to drug the victim (but not further investigated for unknown reason).
As soon as I heard "chasing an owl' in the middle of the night, I immediately called BS. However, this little girl wasn't meant to die. Someone who was of a childish character stocked that coffin.(using that word deliberately) Children, or even young adults have a distorted view of what "rich" means. Another commenter said the area she lived in was a wealthy one, even if the parents had received the land as an inheritance. I'm wondering too, what cars they had? Did they *appear* wealthy? The children had extra curricular activities which would both make it seem they were well off, and increase the visibility of Ursula and her siblings. I'm also curious about the bell on a rope that the girls had "locked in a box in the dorm" Leaving aside the pretend owl, why did the girls have it? Why had they kept it locked up and secret for maybe a year? And then, how and why did investigators find out about it? Maybe some of the involved girls had left the school, and remaining ones didn't feel invested in the need for secrecy. I agree with other commenters about school science equipment. However I'd add that this was a private boarding school so their supplies would be better maybe than a state run school. Ursula would be more likely to go with older girls to "a secret place" and co-operate in being confined, as it seems she did.(sitting peaceably, no struggles to get out etc,) Lastly, it may be wishful thinking but I feel death occurred really quickly, given that none of the supplies were touched., And it seems Ursula just sat down n waited to be released. I really hope she died quickly, if there was no chance of rescue.

I'm thinking that actual terroristgroups (often consisting of upper middleclass youths) would have checked out whether the family actually was wealthy, but perhaps less cautious followers also failing to secure her ability to breath.

They were very popular, and increasingly portable in the 1970s and affordable. My mother had an old radio cassette player that she used for decades around her house - either plugged in to mains power, or with batteries. Some libraries would even loan out cassette players to listen to “books on tape”.

It seems that the scope of the case was too narrow. The Boarding school should have been looked at as a possibility. Was it coincidental it was Ursula's first day at high school? Surely someone must have seen the hole being dug or the box etc being put into it. Lots of people used those woods. My heart goes out to The Hermann family and Ursula
If it was first day of term after the summer holidays, it would have also been first day of term at the boarding school. Boarding school pupils may arrive a little early (especially as school usually starts on a Tuesday or Wednesday) but not that long before that they had time to dig the hole and build the box. Unless they did it before the summer holidays.

I am an audio recording professional, and the tape machine evidence is bizarre. The only thing I could imagine them claiming as evidence is if there was some sort of issue with the machine components that caused a very unique oscillation on the recordings that they could match up the cycles per second to similar issues on the phone calls, but even then it could be circumstantial. I would be very interested in reading what their exact claim was about the machine. Any tape machine that doesnt have excellent maintenance has quirks, so often that it is impossible to point to them as a smoking gun. Wow and Flutter causes "wobbles" in the playback but this is so common it is a standard tape machine measurement and impossible to claim it a unique signature.
Because they panicked when they realised she was dead and they couldn't return her? When they realised they'd be up on a murder rap as well as kidnapping they probably dropped the whole idea.
It seems very probably that Ursula was unconscious when she was placed into the box, and remained so until she died. Given the undisturbed position she was found in, her closed eyes and the complete lack of signs of any struggle.
Most likely back then things were considered safer than they are today. I know as a child we roamed all over the place and no one ever worried. So sad and horrible 😢😢
1981 - Bavaria - Ten year old Ursula Hermann was a sports loving girl and one day she cycled to attend a gymnastics lesson but failed to return home. Later on her bicycle was found in a brush but there was no sign of Ursula. Days later a Ransom Note from the kidnapper was received by the family.
It seems the detectives were interested in closing this case. Whether they had the right person or not! The brother new they had the wrong person, yet that man went to prison for a crime he didn't commit. I feel for this family losing their daughter/sister. On the other hand I can't imagine anything worse, then being imprisoned for a crime you had nothing to do with.
They should have looked at the students that said they found the copper wire while chasing after an owl. It struck me as very odd for an adult to fill the box with some water and a lot of soft drinks and junk food, especially chewing gum. It also seems childishly thought out with all the things they put in there but didn't know about ventilation and that the box was painted inside. I think the police dropped the ball on this case by not looking at those students because there could have been a few of them involved and then when they realised the girl was dead after all their efforts thinking up their scheme, they panicked and realised they'd all be blamed and stayed silent. Know they are grown and have families and wouldn't want to be caught now so they're all still staying silent. The students really should have been looked into. The box could easily have been made by them
It makes me sick that a child died young and needlessly in a horrible crime over money. The problem with even kidnapping her but not killing her is also that it could cause trauma for her so kidnapping someone and holding them hostage is also a serious abusive crime that deserves punishment.
Basically, I'm fine with that sadistic psycho going to prison just for what he did to the dog. I dearly hope the poor little girl never was conscious in that horrible box and never knew what was happening to her.

The abductor was someone who likely was not able to hide her in his home. It would make sense that it was Werner if he was their neighbor. It would have been difficult for him to get her in the house and keep her there with no one noticing.
What kind of a father tells his child to get back home on her own at 7:20 PM at night, and too through a wooded area??? Why couldn't Dad pick her up himself?? Irresponsible acts of parents which later cost them all their lives are a lesson for all parents what NOT to do!! Back in the 80's it was not uncommon for children to travel alone or play outside late etc, plus it was a nice german town, its not like it was downtown detroit. A lot has changed since then

But boarding school would have been closed for the summer holidays. It happened on the first day of term, which is the same day across Bavaria. Students at the boarding school would have been only there for 3/4 days maximum before that. Not enough time to get the whole thing set up and planned and built.

Most cases that go to trial are circumstantial or largely so, so that isn't a problem for me, BUT there needs to be more than disputed audio evidence and prior bad acts for me to think about convicting someone. Matsurik is a good suspect, but the fact that they didn't find ANY forensic evidence against him and didn't have much evidence, period, should have given the German justice system more pause.
The only slight comforting thought about her death is that she would have simply fallen asleep as the carbon dioxide overtook the oxygen. A grim comfort, but it's something in this terrible, sad case.

There is evidence that one trait of serial killers is that they like to kill innocent animals. This shows no mercy to innocent creatures which translates into ill treatment of small children or elderly people. It is very important for parents to encourage children from a young age to treat animals well. Give them a pet and show them how to take care if the pet and nurture it. Eventually this act will develop a caring and good character in the person and they will reflect these behaviors as an adult.

I see similarities between putting a dog in a freezer and putting a child, alive, in a crate buried in the ground. Being significantly in debt and trying to extort a ransom, while incidental to the crime, I think also points to the right person having been convicted.
A person being murdered is always so very sad but even more so when the victim is a child. Absolutely tragic.

It’s hard to believe that none of the material used in the building of the ‘box’, could not be traced back to the accused. Also, all the provisions, books, radio and etc.
It was the 80's. How many people do you think paid with credit card? Got recorded on cameras in the shops? Could the police "run it in the system"?
Unless the shopkeeper remembered that specific item being bought by a person they could fully describe... you can forget about it.

I hate when someone is found guilty without any real evidence. Could it have been him? Sure. But "could have" isn't good enough, it doesn't meet the requirement of "guilt beyond a reasonable doubt". Yeah, he sounds like a complete jerk, but again, that doesn't make him guilty.
Yes, I feel similarly. I understand why Michael was so confused by the evidence in the case(s), because I too am perplexed by a lot of it. I’m also conflicted about the lack of evidence. I *feel* that it could have been him, but someone else mentioning that the items in the box seem like what a kid might think of - in fact the whole idea of the crime seems quite childish (as well as the oversight with the air circulation in the box)… One thing I’m not confused about, is that this is a tragedy.
The standard of "...Beyond a reasonable doubt" is a part of the U.S. court system standards. This was West Germany. In much of Europe, the accused must prove he or she is innocent.
It's not the USA legal system.

I assume the auntie and uncle were looked at since they were the last to see her alive? Were they in financial trouble and thought they'd be able to make some quick money? The fact that the child was hidden with lots of treats such as chocolate and comic books, makes me think that whoever it was not only didn't want her hurt, but that they wanted her to be 'happy'. It's like it was someone who 'cared' about her. I can't see the dog killer leaving her with treats. Someone like him would probably just leave her with the bare minimum to keep her alive! And let's not forget that the person/s who did this would have to be so familiar with the little girl that they knew she'd be travelling through the woods alone at that particular time. And since it was an unplanned visit to her cousin's house, surely no one else would have been expecting her to pass through the woods at that time of the evening?
Why not the police officer? Odd that he found the box by poking it with a stick. Why? Why did he even think to poke the ground? And it wouldn’t be the first time that a police officer committed a crime.

This is a hard one. He...it just doesn't seem like they have that much to go on with their alleged suspect, and meanwhile the boarding school is right there and the idea it's a staff member or even a student, IMO, holds a lot of water and should at the least be looked into.
The juvenile seeming note, the car, the comics, even the supplies being largely candy and treats. This sounds...like a younger person who almost thinks they can make the abduction feel like a vacation.
A juvenile might be smart enough to know a sunken box needs a vent for air, but not smart enough to know it needs mechanical assistance of some kind. It explains the location - middle of tthe woods is a weird place for someone to be coming and going from in an abduction case unless you literally live at a school nearby and can readily access this spot without raising suspicion.
Plus, right, plus, a boarding school back then (any school back then really) would have a really well stocked science lab, and may even have had bottles of ether or chloroform in supply. Schools back then would often require students to dissect animals and back in the day they'd have you ether the animal to death beforehand. You'd soak a rag or cotton bull in ether or something similar, put it in a jar with the mouse or frog or whatever, seal it and leave the animal to suffocate.
(I am aware the vile irony of what I'm describing in this particular case).
This might explain how the abductor accessed something to drug her with, if it was just in the school lab that they can readily access.
I have the same feeling that you do. Like this was a teenage boy who planned and poorly executed this abduction and ransom requests. So many beginner mistakes and juvenile letters, language, and even the candy and cookies.

It’s an odd case but I’m not personally convinced it was a child, although I think a connection with the school somehow is def a high possibility.
I like your way of thinking, but I would extend it to the school staff - not necessarily a teacher but also a maintenance worker or a janitor. They would have knowledge and access to chloroform, would know what kids like to eat/drink, and perhaps even possess some comic books found/stolen/taken from the students.

I jsut cant believe they didnt look at the school more closely, its so frustrating.

I'm not letting Werner off the hook just yet, as a person capable of putting a dog in the freezer is definitely fully capable of putting a child in the box, plus there was a motive, proximity and experience in carpentry work, but investigating the school could have revealed an accomplice or provided some proof, especially if chloroform was found missing, and perhaps some fingerprints. It's really a missed opportunity.

I was at roughly the same age as Ursula and live in the neighboring German state Baden-Wűrttemberg. I vividly remember all the media coverage of that case. I tried to imagine how she must have felt sitting in that box in the woods.
I do believe the man they put into prison was not the perpetrator. There seems to be no real proof he did it. They just needed a scapegoat and fast progressed in the case.

It’s like they were just fixated on their suspect, unless they have something else that they are not sharing, in my opinion, there’s too much doubt. I just hope that they find DNA evidence that they can use to find the guilty party or parties. They really need to go back to the beginning and re investigate like the crime happened yesterday.

Thanks DC. From the info and how that poor sweet child was found, I truly believe that she never woke up. It looked just like she was totally under, chloroform or whatever they used and whether they used too much or it was too much with no circulating source of air, I don't think she knew. She may have been grabbed from behind with the soaked rag and other than a quick clip of heartbeat she never knew what hit her. I pray that's how it was. She woke up with the angels. I was suspicious about kids after hearing what had been left in the box. Those items seemed like things a kid would think of but not necessarily an adult. It all seemed juvenile.
Agreed, absolutely. It's got that feel of being...some parts have been thought over too much, some nowhere near enough. The candy feels juvenile, like, an adult would just supply water and basic snacks and nowhere near that huge supply of comics and books (which can theoretically all be traceable evidence, which a grown up might consider, a teen would not even realise). Knowing to include an air vent, but not knowing to add a pump to circulate air feels juvenile.
And I'd argue a student in the school could easily have access to ether or chlorofom because school science labs back then could potentially be really well stocked with a surprising array of chemicals. If the boarding school had ether on supply for dissection lessons the abductor could have accessed it.

The students who found the copper bell wire that later was found to be acted as an alert system, why when they found it was it kept locked in a box in the boarding school dormitory? They found it after chasing an Owl in the woods? Don't know I believe this and no fingerprints of the students, how old were they exactly? This part seems weird to me!
Also the drug used in boarding schools to kill frogs etc for dissection could that be the reason for the marks found on the victims larynx if it was used to drug the victim (but not further investigated for unknown reason).

I'm wondering too, what cars they had? Did they *appear* wealthy? The children had extra curricular activities which would both make it seem they were well off, and increase the visibility of Ursula and her siblings.
I'm also curious about the bell on a rope that the girls had "locked in a box in the dorm"
Leaving aside the pretend owl, why did the girls have it?
Why had they kept it locked up and secret for maybe a year?
And then, how and why did investigators find out about it? Maybe some of the involved girls had left the school, and remaining ones didn't feel invested in the need for secrecy.
I agree with other commenters about school science equipment.
However I'd add that this was a private boarding school so their supplies would be better maybe than a state run school.
Ursula would be more likely to go with older girls to "a secret place" and co-operate in being confined, as it seems she did.(sitting peaceably, no struggles to get out etc,)
Lastly, it may be wishful thinking but I feel death occurred really quickly, given that none of the supplies were touched., And it seems Ursula just sat down n waited to be released.
I really hope she died quickly, if there was no chance of rescue.

I'm thinking that actual terroristgroups (often consisting of upper middleclass youths) would have checked out whether the family actually was wealthy, but perhaps less cautious followers also failing to secure her ability to breath.

I think this guy was a scapegoat coz he wasn't well liked and it was easy to persecute/prosecute him. Like any other person that had a cassette tape player and a cassette tape. Or just had access to one. They were very popular, and increasingly portable in the 1970s and affordable. My mother had an old radio cassette player that she used for decades around her house - either plugged in to mains power, or with batteries.
Some libraries would even loan out cassette players to listen to “books on tape”.

It seems that the scope of the case was too narrow. The Boarding school should have been looked at as a possibility. Was it coincidental it was Ursula's first day at high school? Surely someone must have seen the hole being dug or the box etc being put into it. Lots of people used those woods. My heart goes out to The Hermann family and Ursula
If it was first day of term after the summer holidays, it would have also been first day of term at the boarding school. Boarding school pupils may arrive a little early (especially as school usually starts on a Tuesday or Wednesday) but not that long before that they had time to dig the hole and build the box. Unless they did it before the summer holidays.

I am an audio recording professional, and the tape machine evidence is bizarre. The only thing I could imagine them claiming as evidence is if there was some sort of issue with the machine components that caused a very unique oscillation on the recordings that they could match up the cycles per second to similar issues on the phone calls, but even then it could be circumstantial. I would be very interested in reading what their exact claim was about the machine. Any tape machine that doesnt have excellent maintenance has quirks, so often that it is impossible to point to them as a smoking gun. Wow and Flutter causes "wobbles" in the playback but this is so common it is a standard tape machine measurement and impossible to claim it a unique signature.
the evidence is the buttons play and pause of the recorder sounds similar to the recordings. common every recorder switch almost sounds the same.
Why even do this, send a ransom note then do nothing? I cannot imagine the terror Ursula experienced. Sheer hell. Poor child🥺
Because they panicked when they realised she was dead and they couldn't return her? When they realised they'd be up on a murder rap as well as kidnapping they probably dropped the whole idea.
It seems very probably that Ursula was unconscious when she was placed into the box, and remained so until she died. Given the undisturbed position she was found in, her closed eyes and the complete lack of signs of any struggle.
This little child wasn't take in the prime of her, ' life... this poor baby didn't he have a chance to have a life.. but very well covered..

1981 - Bavaria - Ten year old Ursula Hermann was a sports loving girl and one day she cycled to attend a gymnastics lesson but failed to return home. Later on her bicycle was found in a brush but there was no sign of Ursula. Days later a Ransom Note from the kidnapper was received by the family.
There's a movie called The Lovely Bones where parts of this crime resemble that movie. So very sad indeed.

They should have looked at the students that said they found the copper wire while chasing after an owl. It struck me as very odd for an adult to fill the box with some water and a lot of soft drinks and junk food, especially chewing gum. It also seems childishly thought out with all the things they put in there but didn't know about ventilation and that the box was painted inside.
I think the police dropped the ball on this case by not looking at those students because there could have been a few of them involved and then when they realised the girl was dead after all their efforts thinking up their scheme, they panicked and realised they'd all be blamed and stayed silent. Know they are grown and have families and wouldn't want to be caught now so they're all still staying silent. The students really should have been looked into. The box could easily have been made by them

It makes me sick that a child died young and needlessly in a horrible crime over money. The problem with even kidnapping her but not killing her is also that it could cause trauma for her so kidnapping someone and holding them hostage is also a serious abusive crime that deserves punishment.
Basically, I'm fine with that sadistic psycho going to prison just for what he did to the dog. I dearly hope the poor little girl never was conscious in that horrible box and never knew what was happening to her.

The abductor was someone who likely was not able to hide her in his home. It would make sense that it was Werner if he was their neighbor. It would have been difficult for him to get her in the house and keep her there with no one noticing.
What kind of a father tells his child to get back home on her own at 7:20 PM at night, and too through a wooded area??? Why couldn't Dad pick her up himself?? Irresponsible acts of parents which later cost them all their lives are a lesson for all parents what NOT to do!! How could Daddy live with himself after what he caused that poor little innocent girl by his one negligent act??
Back in the 80's it was not uncommon for children to travel alone or play outside late etc, plus it was a nice german town, its not like it was downtown detroit. A lot has changed since then

She was left with books, soda, candy, cookies, etc,. Ransom notes with broken German, she wasn’t assaulted, no drugs were found, and two students had the copper bell wire, which they claimed to have found while chasing an owl, locked in a box on their dorm? But their fingerprints and DNA weren’t collected.
I would bet dollars to donuts that the kidnappers were students at the boarding school
But boarding school would have been closed for the summer holidays. It happened on the first day of term, which is the same day across Bavaria. Students at the boarding school would have been only there for 3/4 days maximum before that. Not enough time to get the whole thing set up and planned and built.

Most cases that go to trial are circumstantial or largely so, so that isn't a problem for me, BUT there needs to be more than disputed audio evidence and prior bad acts for me to think about convicting someone. Matsurik is a good suspect, but the fact that they didn't find ANY forensic evidence against him and didn't have much evidence, period, should have given the German justice system more pause.
The only slight comforting thought about her death is that she would have simply fallen asleep as the carbon dioxide overtook the oxygen. A grim comfort, but it's something in this terrible, sad case.
