@@hiimrezgaming9885 He's a solid lead trumpet player but he's not great as a soloist in any genre that I've heard. He's what you get when you take medium talent and aid it with a ton of hard work. He's just not special. He would probably tell you as much. I appreciate him. I watch his vids. He's got some impressive technique. But he does nothing singular.
So Adam talks about this in some video - somewhere - but it’s not actually multiple or flutter tonguing. He talks about it being a “party trick”, like a rapid fire single tongue effect. I definitely tried it but haven’t gotten the results he does 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly my first guess was him moving the tip of his tongue left and right while playing to make it seem like he was double tonguing really fast while not getting tired at all. I’ve used it instead of triple tonguing a lot in jazz just because I was too tired to do it in performances.
My favorite parts were onestly that slide down to an F and an E and the super fast double tongue. Idk if that was a different trumpet other than a Bb but to me that was quite impressive as the lowest possible to hit without moving any slides or using petal tones. Also that double tongue was insane!! I'm still trying to get my double tongue down right to be able to hit it consistently while he's just zipping right through it!!! Very well done!🤟
Couldn't tell you how to do the super fast tonguing but I could tell you that I think he may have been playing on his signature Lotus trumpet which features a 4th valve, allowing for a large expansion of the lower range. It's difficult to get a good look at the trumpet but the 4th valve on the Rapa 4 valve model from Lotus wraps around the bottom of the valve block and is controlled by a trigger actuated by the left thumb. However he is incredibly talented in the lower range and has very well in tune and consistent pedal tones. Very skilled players such as Rapa and Sandoval can often even sound like a trombone in their pedal ranges.
No doubt Adam Rapa is beyond skilled, but as a life long trumpet player I gotta press X to doubt that he is doing 'insane double tongue' towards the end. It sounds more like a very stable speed, clean flutter tongue (which is really hard to do too!). If he really is double tonguing that fast then he has surpassed being a freak of nature, and is just a god
It’s not double tongue, it’s clearly flutter tongue. What’s very special is that he’s figured out the speed at which to play the different notes “in time” with the flutter to sound like an insanely fast double.
Yo what is this fusion with classic and jazz how is this not more popular (I mean I guess both genres have pretty conflicting values but still does this not sound so good)
Yeah man, I think with the right players, there could be some really cool renditions of classical pieces. Definitely an area that could become more popular in the future.
Omg yes it's called "Third Stream" it's the combo of jazz and classical. Charles Mingus explored this style quite a bit and people hated it. Jazz cats hated it because it sounds like jazz that can't swing, and classical musicians hated it because it sounded like a bastardization of "sacred" classical music. But really it just sounds super good.
Dude, adam rapa has got to be one of the greatest players alive today. Such a nice sound, man. clean clean clean!!!
I don't know. Seems like a great lead but I don't know about all that.
Adam is one of the most humble virtuosos of our time. I agree @june. Incredible musician and also composer writer and arranger!
For sure one of the most versatile players

I think the double tonguing passage is actually just flutter tongue. Sounds more impressive but a lot easier to do than double or triple tonguing.
You mean the part before the closing hit?
@@ianbruns7103 Bar 33 - 39, flutter tonguing was my first guess too.

its flutter tonguing yea, you can tell by the sound
you don't expect something like this from an orchestra evening... absolutely lovely
If i witnessed this live, I would be absolutely overjoyed!
That was some of the CLEANEST 🎺 playing I've ever heard 💯
holy shit. that's about all i can say. such an incredible tone, such unmatched precision

@@cameron-w After finding the original video and getting a better look, I think you're right. He must just be really good in his pedal tones
fairly certain his “double tongue” portion is accomplished with a flutter tongue
I’m gonna learn trumpet and wow… this makes me want to learn even more
Rapa is a great player, probably an inspiration to many.
Ian, for the love of god PLEASE KEEP MAKING THESE!!
Just now seeing this - I watch your channel a lot. I make them whenever I can/am inspired by a certain performance, but life is busy :/
Adam rapa is no doubt the best all round trumpet player ever. He can really do it all.
James Morrison? Wynton Marsalis? Do these names mean nothing to you?
They’re great, but Adam is the best

I’ve been looking for sheet music for this exact piece for SO long
I don’t know if the actual sheet music exists outside of rapa, but this is a start
I never thought someone could play the trumpet sweetly until now
Beautiful job, more please
Adam Rapa is a beast
He really is. Chops of gold
It's perfect!
Amazing!
Who knew Bill Burr was such an accomplished trumpet player :)
Awesome!
This is the quietest tuba I ever saw

There's no surprise why this was recommended to me after seeing videos from George Collier 😅
There are so many channels popping up that imitate his style!

Hey this that song from Aristocats
Sick transcription, but the rhythms are a little off. Think less about where the notes land literally in time and more about how Adam’s phrasing them.
I’ll work on that. It would also help make the transcription more legible
Bellissima prestazione ma non nella lirica. Comunque bravo
