For over four years we've been asking for talking watches with Ben Clymer (cool hunting video doesn't count). Ben, it's time the hubris of ignoring us stopped and this episode happens.
The purity and rawness of all elements in this episode really makes it one of the best. From the watches, to cars, to furniture , to architecture; this is a hard one to top.
This is a great video. People bash the collection, but the reality is that there are highly coveted cars and watches here, and he wears and drives them! Great to see
I want to come back as this guy. Everything about him classy. Amazing house (I'm sure Joaquin Phonenix was pictured with that living room back drop, on an Esquire cover). Beautiful house, amazing cars and watches, and in California. Dream life.
I've seen all Talking Watches again and again, and again. I'm a big fan. This is one of the less interesting ones. If you, Hodinkee, want to do that kind of "TW", then go to random collectioners, with less big brands/famous models... With something really special, unique.
Please, we want more episodes with collections/collectors like John Edelman, William Massena, etc. which own a variety of brands/watches and great stories attached to it. I enjoy Subs and PN Daytona, but I guess we could expand that a lillte bit more.
NUTTY33 3 yeah, unfortunately! Nothing against those models; not at all! But it's really good to see different pieces with some history behind 'em, isn't it?
How many vintages Rolex owners are these ppl going to interview. MANY watch collectors now are not into the risky hobby of vintage collecting. Do more episodes of ppl who own more attainable modern models.
Never heard of Mark Haddawy, but the houses he restores, very worthwhile! Looking at his Rolex collection I found how much better they used to look when the Rolex branding on the dial was smaller. So clean.
I saw this guy cruising up La Brea in his GTO with that unmistakable license plate. I was like “Damn, nice car!” He seemed surprised I noticed, but gave an emphatic “Thanks” with a huge smile. I wondered what guy spends millions on a car. Great to finally learn who he was and glad to know he likes watches!
What he said about gold being so much nicer the more it ages is so true. Gold looks even more beautiful the more it ages and gathers the micro scratches. I have a 1940’s Cyma in yellow gold and it looks beautiful because of the micro scratches and the oxidisation around the lug joints. If he worked on that house wow, he did a great job, it does look so comfortable and lived in like an old favourite tweed jacket.
Love his attitude. Taking a Ferrari SWB to the grocery store - wonderful! Those PN Daytonas are so cool too - esp, the Mexico one with the Jubilee bracelet. John
I really wish the episodes would be longer. I mean, if you can spend 10mins watching a video about watches, you can easily extend that to 30mins. it's a pleasure and we are talking here (mostly) about vintage watches and not the latest iPhone! I like to hear the extended stories of every watch and how they were acquired. regards. a.
Come on...."Talking Watches" is becoming "Talking Rolexes." Get back to what worked orginally, where you curated episodes across brands, complications, differing collecting ethos and types / maturities of collections.
You guys are being too harsh on Mark & Hodinkee. I even smell some jealousy from some of the comments. Don’t burn down stuff that you can’t have. Just hope one day you can get it.
Maybe one day we'll find a talking watches with some independents like Halter or Dufour, but for now we are stuck with Rolex and Patek. It seems like every "affluent" person on talking watches is on a Rolex bandwagon and collects for status and for the pure numbers rather than an appreciation of watchmaking as a whole. You cannot teach a man taste, he must seek out for himself.
The Bludragon Yeah. Perhaps at the end of the day, acquiring good taste is more about confidence than knowledge itself. To know what you like and why is no easy thing. To see the merits of a watch without regard to its resale value is integral to assembling an interesting collection. There is so much hype and marketing noise out there that most collections have a dreary sameness about them.
My god this guy knows how to collect. I want his cars as much as I want his watches. His car collection is so much more valuable though, monetarily speaking.
I just can't get it.... why people are so crazy about Rolex watches...they are basically tools, meant to be used for specific purpose...and sorry but design wise, i find them to be very boring. Hope i won't hurt Rolex fans here. Other then that great taking watches hodinkee.
jesse menon The John Mayer talking watches was the first one I ever saw and in my opinion still the best. I would love to see a follow up with John Mayer
Despite all the negative comments below , i really enjoyed the video , beautiful watches , gorgeous cars and lovely old guitars , obviously i would much rather spend my free time looking at Seikos , Hondas and Squire guitars !
What's the shirt he's wearing? I see the New Riders of the Purple Sage logo on the side but I don't know the one on the front, and I've never seen a double print like this. Who made it?
Mohamed Kamal The Guy has beautiful watches and cars and tons of money, but he clearly needs those things to make up for the fact that he lacks even the hint of an interesting personality.
Right on! A Talking Watches episode with Archieluxury would break the internet! Shitters, maaaaan on the fuuuucking moon, interesting stories and many other jewels. Make this happen, please!
Look at those Daytonas and how the chronograph seconds hand tip floats over a contrasting color ring on the dial. I can't help but feel watch design used to be so much better! I don't think modern watches should be re-editions or remakes, but it could definitely benefit from some of these design principles.
I'd like to start seeing more variety in the collections. I am aware that Hodinkee has to find high profile people to elevate the status of Talking Watches further but I'd like to see more focus on the actual collection and not the prestige of the guest. Who cares if we've never heard of them and they aren't famous.
In what world does a designer and restorer of vintage homes make enough money to purchase multiple 7 figure cars and multiple watches in high 6 figures?
Mr. Clymer good sir. When will I be invited to talk watches? I have many stories to tell as a youth in Europe. This gentleman was pure class. Best regards, Sir Willie Stroker's
To me it was just 9 minutes showing a wealthy man owning 6 Rolex and, I presume, knowing little or none about the history of these timepieces. Collecting watches is about passion, not money.
Benjamin Langman really? He seemed really knowledgeable and his collection, though all Rolex, was well thought out. I didn’t get the wealthy guy showing off, but more of an artsy guy showing off his collection
Whether he is knowledgeable or not, he just comes off as pretentious and uninteresting. It’s great to know that he can afford all of those cars and watches, but too bad he can’t buy a personality.
Elias Westeren All of these people saying he has “great taste...” He has money, that’s it. Oh.. he has a Ferrari 250 SW, that means he has great taste... No, that means he can google “most expensive Ferrari and then go buy it. But he has a Ferrari Lusso, he definitely has great taste. No, he saw a picture of Steve McQueen’s Lusso and bought one similar. Sounds like McQueen has great taste.
Great interview, I just wish it was longer with a few more questions...... he’s a wealth of information and I would have picked his brain for hours...... #SALUTE
I can relate to pairing a car with a watch. I like nothing more than wearing my Seiko SKX as roll down the highway in my 96' Corolla.
mugwump1234 I like to pair my Casio G-Shock with my Ford Ranger.
mugwump1234 I love this
Now you just need a famous actor to do the same so the values of your skx and Corolla skyrocket!
I think that deserves just as much respect as rolling in a 911 with a sub. Just make sure you rock that SKX on a nato. Good ya mate.
I wear my SNZF15 with my Ford Expedition
So rare to find a guy that likes Rolex and Porsche
G Posada haha
Lolz
Maybe there’s a good reason behind? Not being biased at all lol
:D
😂😂😂
Sure that's not just an older version of Jake Gyllenhaal?
For over four years we've been asking for talking watches with Ben Clymer (cool hunting video doesn't count). Ben, it's time the hubris of ignoring us stopped and this episode happens.
Matt Ashe truth!
He kind of did one on another channel
Captain Tsubasa 10 like I said, cool hunting doesn't count. The fans have spoken; Clymer is on notice lol.
Matt Ashe I
Ben should do this on Hodinkee with his current collection to celebrate 2009-2019 = 10 years Hodinkee !
The purity and rawness of all elements in this episode really makes it one of the best. From the watches, to cars, to furniture , to architecture; this is a hard one to top.
Despite being a bit Rolex heavy, this is a great collection. I also love the car and architecture nods given in this video.
Thankfully we are passed talking watches episodes with a big focus on the bar they're sitting in.
Barmeester hahahahaha so true 😂😂
Teddy Baldassarre Rolex heavy ? I’d say it’s Only Rolex
Teddy Baldassarre couldn’t agree more
BTW I loved the rolex video you just posted on your channel, can't beat a datejust
A House tour or a garage tour would have been more interesting, the watches are not bad ... but I guess we have had enough Paul Newmans for now.
MrJeronimo94 it’s getting to be like mtv cribs were everyone has a Ms Pac-Man game
NOWNESS channel has a house tour
@@SnoopiesPoopies Thanks!!
I was more interested in the room they were in then the watches for once!
Can't blame ya...
This is a great video. People bash the collection, but the reality is that there are highly coveted cars and watches here, and he wears and drives them! Great to see
He needs a Rolex in his collection... Just my opinion tho🙄
😂
I want to come back as this guy. Everything about him classy. Amazing house (I'm sure Joaquin Phonenix was pictured with that living room back drop, on an Esquire cover). Beautiful house, amazing cars and watches, and in California. Dream life.
IMO this is the liveliest, most inquisitive host of TW. And this episode in particular is choc full of beauty and style. Well done!
Great episode. People that own watches should aspire to what Haddawy has and collects. The guy has taste, period.
This is a sophisticated collection. Outstanding👍🏼
I've seen all Talking Watches again and again, and again. I'm a big fan. This is one of the less interesting ones. If you, Hodinkee, want to do that kind of "TW", then go to random collectioners, with less big brands/famous models... With something really special, unique.

Its always daytonas, gmt, submariners, then from patek you get nautilus'. It gets boring
NUTTY33 3 yeah, unfortunately! Nothing against those models; not at all! But it's really good to see different pieces with some history behind 'em, isn't it?
Personally, I find no joy in Rolexes so these videos get tiresome quickly. Watches with a bit of character and quirkyness, thats what I like.
Favourite collection so far. Such vibes!
I enjoyed everything about this, from the location, the architecture and decor to the cars and most importantly, the watches.
This was a great conversation. Maybe take it to the next level with Talking Watches with TGV!
Best regards,
Sir Willie Stroker
Probably my least favorite Talking Watches. The wait was long this time, didn’t expect to see just some cliche sport Rolexes and a house tour.
How many vintages Rolex owners are these ppl going to interview. MANY watch collectors now are not into the risky hobby of vintage collecting. Do more episodes of ppl who own more attainable modern models.
Super stylish in an nicely understated way, my favorite episode!
One of the best talking watches for sure
This episode wins. So good.
A great episode! And absolutely love his car collection!
Can one call this man a "collector" if he has only 3 models of the SAME brand? Even though I love all of them.
Dani Lo I bet he has a lot more, they might see his collection and pick them out ahead of time
Of course you can that's a ridiculous statement, there's so many different kinds of collecting and people collect for all different reasons.
I think i found my new idol.
Mark is pure style.
Never heard of Mark Haddawy, but the houses he restores, very worthwhile! Looking at his Rolex collection I found how much better they used to look when the Rolex branding on the dial was smaller. So clean.
Damn, that's a beautiful house.
Great cars, superb house, but not terribly exciting watches.
Oh man! This guy is living the dream, love his vintage Rolex'es and cars and the house! Just amazing 👌🏻
Super cool guy
Love his place and his car collection..

I'm not a gold watch fan personally but that gold and burgundy gmt is undeniably gorgeous.
Smart collector. This is a guy that thinks about every acquisition and isn't a compulsive buyer. Very nice collection!
An episode like a coffee table book :-D
But i really like the fact, that he wears the watches with those scratches.
Indeed.
Love his attitude. Taking a Ferrari SWB to the grocery store - wonderful! Those PN Daytonas are so cool too - esp, the Mexico one with the Jubilee bracelet. John
What watches are you guys wearing as you watch this video? I'm wearing a 1971 Seiko Lordmatic
CF Bucherer Patravi Scubatec two-tone.
SKX 013
Rolex 14060 on a leather strap
Mason Atkinson an omega 300m seamaster
Rolex datejust 16233
This guy looks disappointed that he got the office boy and not Clymer
Love Rolex, but please, stop with the strictly vintage Rolex collectors. It's getting too repetitive.
i agree, but whenever they do that, everyone complains about watches they dont like
@@saurabhchowdhry3423 True that. There is no pleasing the watch community (as my own comment shows haha).
Always gotta wear my watch when watching a Hondinkee episode
lol same
Daniel Fjäll what do u wear?
Rolex Datejust 1601
You should always be wearing one anyway!
Hodinkee is my reminder
Best episode of talking watches
I really wish the episodes would be longer. Amazing home, cars, watches. Needed more Ben Clymer though.
Does Hodinkee only interview people with Rolex?
Come on...."Talking Watches" is becoming "Talking Rolexes." Get back to what worked orginally, where you curated episodes across brands, complications, differing collecting ethos and types / maturities of collections.
Take it easy Francis. The collection is exceptional as are his cars.
this is the crystal clear evidence of the truth we all now. If we had the money this guys had, we would only buy rolexes, pateks and APs
"Today we're Talking Watches with a rich guy who owns only Rolex." Yawn.
thumperjdm ya.. Boring
Hey who are you to judge? It's well known that a decent man should always have a Rolex matched with his Porsche.
Daniel Fortin "Decent" meaning "rich"?
Elias Westeren no, decent meaning a respectable man with noble intentions.
It was ok, but I did like his big crown and Daytonya
The Daytona at 4:10 is my favorite watch out of all of these episodes I’ve watched.
You guys are being too harsh on Mark & Hodinkee. I even smell some jealousy from some of the comments.

Philip van der Kooy lol same
What an outstanding interviewer.
My god this guy knows how to collect. I want his cars as much as I want his watches. His car collection is so much more valuable though, monetarily speaking.
INCREDIBLE. House. Cars. Watches.
Hero level on every sense. This was an amazing interview
Absolutely beautiful watches and another great episode!
this house is absolutely jaw dropping...
When are we going to finally lay to rest that Steve McQueen never, ever wore a Rolex Explorer II?!? 😩😩😩
Mark Haddawy is a great vintage house restorateur and have a great taste in watches and car collecting.
I am in love with that gold Daytona 😍
I just can't get it.... why people are so crazy about Rolex watches...they are basically tools, meant to be used for specific purpose...and sorry but design wise, i find them to be very boring. Hope i won't hurt Rolex fans here. Other then that great taking watches hodinkee.
Medhi, Agree with you
Awesome collection, love the patina of the vintage watches and I love The Daytona watches too
this shows you how well marketing works.
And i thought the next talking watches would feature John Mayer. John's episode was really something else.
jesse menon The John Mayer talking watches was the first one I ever saw and in my opinion still the best. I would love to see a follow up with John Mayer
vintage Porches and vintage Rolexes. what a unique creative dude.
Love the patina on those watches
judging by his comments. The Ferrari is a 250 SWB, $10-&$15 million value
Let's face it..the watches are a bit trivial, but the house and cars are stunning...!
Mannn am i in love with talking watches ❤️❤️❤️
Wow very nice watches, cars, and home. Perfect place to be😄

Entertaining and I did enjoy the mix of watches cars and architecture. The GMT is gorgeous. But what really are the stories behind these pieces?
Nine minutes of my life I am never getting back, what a borefest.
Mohamed Kamal The Guy has beautiful watches and cars and tons of money, but he clearly needs those things to make up for the fact that he lacks even the hint of an interesting personality.
OK. I love the series, but there is so much more than Subs and Daytonas. Surprise us!
FANTASTIC COLLECTION But make no mistake this a RICH MAN’S collection
Everyone's so negative in the comments. I enjoyed the video, keep em coming Hodinkee!
You might want to look up the definition of "everyone"
Here Kip, are you still taking Rex-Kwon-Do classes? Cheers
Spice things up and do a talking watches with Archieluxary.

what ref is that sub in the opening sequence?
There is nothing as cool as midcentury architecture.
Is it me or does this guy strike anyone as a bit of a sociopath? I think I saw him in No Country for Old Men.
How achingly eclectic.
Lol!
Took me a while to really appreciate this episode, but now it is one of my favorites. Well done, Hodinkee!

Where can I get the a pad like that
6:22" This place is so magical that even cars drive backwards
in what style is this house made?
In what world does a designer and restorer of vintage homes make enough money to purchase multiple 7 figure cars and multiple watches in high 6 figures?

in 2019 its still my fav 'talking watches' interview
What a beautiful home!
