  • In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on Population Slowdown. Today we’re going to talk about India’s population growth. According to the National Family Health Survey data for 2019-21, the country’s population is set to fall as its Total Fertility Rate - which is the average number of children born to a woman over her lifetime has dropped to 2 for the first time. In the 2015-16 survey, the national TFR was 2.2, and before that in the 2005-06 survey it was 2.7. Now it has dropped down to 2 - which is below replacement level. The replacement level TFR, at which a population exactly replaces itself from one generation to the next one, is estimated to be 2.1. The findings suggest the TFR has declined to 2.1 in rural areas and 1.6 in urban areas. On the show today, we will analyse the key findings of the latest NFHS survey, what it means for India, the challenges before the country as TFR falls and the way forward.

    Important key points
    1)TFR going down since independence from 6 to 2 in NFHS-5.
    2) Behavioural change in people and no need of coercion to achieve this feat.
    3)People have started taking contraceptive.
    4)Men need to step up in childcare and family planning.
    5)Child mortality and maternal mortality needs to be reduced.
    6)Reduce burden of care from women to make them more involved in work.
    7) Education is the pill for success.

    It's an apt example of what consistency means..
    Since 1952, consistent efforts taken by the various govts are now showing results.
    Empowering women, awareness, literacy, family planning awareness, food inflation, quality of life etc factors have played an important role to achieve this demographic landmark.
    But alot more has to be done in this patriarchal society as care responsibility and love mindset needs to be promoted in men's mind so that in coming few years we actually see the equality among men n women both.
    Other challenges include that at what low TFR can it become a threat for us as nations like Europe, Japan are facing now.
    To conclude, policies must make sure that it converts every person born to an asset and not liability that is what actual development means.✌️

Do you consider yourself smarter than the learned speaker? Is it the way you treat the guest speaker? I request the channel owner to stop allowing such anchor to host the show who has no regards for the distinguished speaker.

    Here are people are celebrating the destruction of growth by fertility rate falling behind replacement level,
    Here many dont understand that as population decreases the consumption reduces then production reduces and lower growth.
    Does anyone knows why there are so many innovations just only in last 100 years because of just world population, now the population has peaked and is going down and the innovation is also going to be reduced.

  • @kazama4660
    @kazama4660 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Why we are celebrating.... Its total fertility rate has dropped. Peaceful community still have fertility of 3

    • @grapeshott
      @grapeshott 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Perhaps u didn't see the debate at all. First of all, their fertility rate us 2.6, not 3. Secondly, education and poverty are the main culprits, not religious community. It's just a sociological problem, not a theological problem. No need of fear psychosis.

    Informative discussion & coverd all cause of concern, achieved milestone & the way forward. Panelist outlook is amazing.
    I would say that the only thing by which we achieved this milestone is education & changing mindset of youth irrespective of religion. Earlier people used to have baby in want of baby boy. They believed only a man can run a family. Due to this they had a big family & they are unable or hardly fulfilled their basic needs. Contraceptive pills, Inflation & pvt schools are playing a key role to force people not to have more than two baby. Even in rural area land size is decreasing due to population so there is also an awareness to control population. Nowadays marriages are happening average 25+ or more (even in rural area) this is the biggest reason for TFR. Muslim communities are also more sensitive for large family and they also reducing their family size even in backward or remote areas.

    SPEED BREAKER
    TFR declining shows that the number of population is reducing and getting into next phase
    Population has always been a major role player on deciding the level of development in a country and every nation in this world have to pass through three phases of population ie biginning phase , developing phase and the developed phase.
    In the begging part , there is very less education abd health care facility and thus high rate of infant mortality and thus make the people to believe in having more children . This is the part where balanced growth is seen because birth and death rate are approximately at par but it is unstable one. Second phase is developing where basic health facilities are there but education is not at much extent therefore still make tye population to rely on having more children which leads to population growth at high pace . And the last one is developed part where both health and education are well enough plus urbanisation and female participation in workforce is seen and thats the reason why people tend to reduce the number if children .
    India being a developing nation is going through the second phase of population pattern of growth but the recent survey showed that we are even getting into the third phase of population growth . We have now TFR ie total fertility rate if 2.0 , which means every couple is having two children at most and the trend would reduce the country's population by 30 thousand crore before 2030 and as per the suggestion its women contribution that led to this. Male participation is undoubtedly required in family planning rather than looking at women for everything.
    Stable population will drive the nation at the right path plus give a stability in employment as well.
