  • A large multinational exercise designed to help Ukraine deal with the threat of Russian sea mines is taking place off the coast of northwest Scotland.
Hosted by the Royal Navy, two Ukrainian minehunters are involved in Exercise Sea Breeze along with ships from five Nato countries including France, Germany and Estonia, plus personnel from 13 allied nations.
Russia is believed to have laid more than 500 naval mines in the Black Sea as part of President Vladimir Putin's efforts to blockade Ukrainian ports.

Me neither, just reading that the Sanddown Class Minehunters (of which the RN had 12, and now only 1 in service) are to be replaced with 3 Offshore Support Vessels (OSV) which will acts as "Motherships" for autonomous mine-hunting boats.

@@harryflower1810The Moskva was sunk as a result of Russia not fully recognising that the Ukraine war was really one between itself and Nato with Ukraine acting as a proxy Nato allied military. Ukraine could not have sunk that warship without U.S. led Nato direct assistance. It was a wake up call to Russia.

@@richardmarsden5610 I think you must still be asleep then Ivan because you've lost a hell of a lot more ships and a Submarine since then.
Also the Moskva was sunk with totally Ukrainian made missiles, no NATO input for that sinking.

Russia has mined the Ukrainian coast to prevent grain exports. Mine hunting is a dangerous game, defusing one on the beach would fill your pants at least with these two old vessels they can bring the mines to the surface and then destroy them.
