"Isn't there something wild and uplifting / about their complete indifference / to the human prospect?" -John

This does sound like a sentence that will scratch John's brain. I to, love things that are indifferent to the human prospect. These things keep me looking at myself and asking the important questions

I’ve been wanting to write a poem about why I love wild birds, and this “complete indifference to the human prospect” is one of the reasons. Beautiful.

I love that the lecturer knows so much about afids, about their fertile eggs and their translucence and their diet - the kinds of things you might look in a textbook or a wikipedia article - but not about their basic curiosity-satisfying flavor.

I could see when it was going it was nice pretty and then that line... “and eat them” and it was a game changer so shocking. Before that line this was a poem something that I would have enjoyed consuming but in the end the memory would have faded. But that line so jarring to my preconceived idea. I hope I don’t forget.

I liked this poem too. It makes me feel better when poetry doesn’t land for me or make me feel anything; it doesn’t mean that there’s something wrong with me, it just means the poem didn’t resonate. And that’s all.

Wow, that went from defense-of-nature-through-science, which was awesome, to shocking and dark and yet I loved it, but then it ended on an unsettling tone, and I didn't know what to do with it. I guess I'm congratulating the poet for making me feel things, but what do I do with this? XD

I was offered and ate chocolate covered freeze dried grasshoppers at the Graham's Town Science fair... they had good crunch.

During the 7 year drought there was a grasshopper swarm. I shot the bigger ones with my brother's bb.gun, they were about the length of my hand back then. Their blood smelled like cilantro so I didn't eat them and still dislike coriander to this day.

I think I’m too careful to eat a bug that’s not ants. I’ve had ants plenty of times, almost always unknowingly. And honestly sometimes I find the ant-flavor in other food 😂

A lot of people in the comments are asking about what the poem means. It's a good question, but maybe not the most useful one to you. A better question would be what does it mean to you? How does it affect you? There are ways to analyze poetry, sure, but it's impossible to have one correct, definitive perspective. Even if the author tells you point-blank what they meant to convey, that is not all that is there. Every reader will come at a piece of art from their own unique perspective and come away from it with different understandings. And that's okay.

Grandfather's brothers son, so your first cousin once-removed? In conclusion, the English kinship system is ambiguous and sucks. In Tamil you can be unambiguous with much fewer words.
