In Cat C i find that people keep their powder dry on the flats, pushing low watts, then drop bombs on the hills, some holding over 5wpkg. Their average power is still lower than 3.2wpkg, preventing them from being bumped up to cat B. to Win you need a 3.5 FTP at least.
Chris this is what sucks for me. I'm close to 200 lbs. and when these bombs drop I get dropped fast. I see them slowing like your talking about but with them so far ahead eve if I catch the main pack I would be toasted and would not be able to continue. However mid pack is never a bad thing!!!
@@JustinPedersonC The thing is, there is plenty to be happy about for you, you're stronger than a whole load of riders and to jump up and do so well is great. Using your power off the line and holding the front pack, just as you did, will hold you in good stead. There is always the race within the race, beating someone close to your ability regardless of finishing position is a lot of fun.
Ya, I know. However for the first cat C race I am glad I did not get in last and beat my boy. I think going forward I will do a mix of Cat C's and D's.
@@JustinPedersonC the dynamics of drafting is a fine line of recovering some and staying on the gas to stay in the peloton. Critical point around 5 mins into the video The higher Cat races will definitely help you. Keep it up!

Great ride Justin. No man’s land is tough, way to stick in it
Thanks Ryan. I did another Cat C race last week but for some reason again about 6 miles in those boys wanted to crank it up.
