- This vintage railway film, produced by Pathe Pictorial in 1930, documents operations on the Leek & Manifold light railway which [despite what the original title card says at the beginning of the film!] was located in Staffordshire, UK.

That's the first time, that I've seen transporter cars, outside of Germany and Switzerland! I know that the line was built to Indian Railways narrow guage standards, but the use of those transporter cars, was never mentioned in the literature I read! Oh,the sins of omission! And that Scott Joplin rag,was the icing on the cake, very appropriate! Thank you,and hope you've got a few more like,of those obscure and fascinating lines!!! THANK YOU!
Wonderful! Thank you for uploading this absolutely charming video. I love the rugged simplicity of the re-gauging trolley/truck!
I've walked quite a bit of the trackbed of this line, but never seen any film of the line. Thank you so such for posting this, I absolutely loved it!
Fascinating film. I know it only as a walk.
Loved watching this. Some years ago I cycled along the line.Beautiful scenery.
Thank you for this. I came across the pathway by chance on a bike ride in about 1970. It's an overused term, but it truly is a hidden gem.
I've just cycled this former railway, a most enjoyable day, and a thrilling experience through the tunnel just as the narrow gauge locomotives once traversed
This little railway would be a worthy story to spin off from The Railway Series. Amazing film
Wow.
Thanks again.
Very quaint little railway indeed. There were once aspirations to extend it northwards to Buxton.
I have a live steal model of that locomotive it is 16mm to the ft narrow gauge and usually runs outdoors on a garden railway .
It has been said of this railway that it began in the middle of nowhere and led to the same place
How quaint! I'm not sure I'd like to ride on a "queer little railway" though. I didn't spot the "piano wagon" in this footage though. Seriously, it's where I used to live as a child. It's absolutely beautiful. In places you could be in Switzerland or Austria especially around Thor's Cave. Give it a visit. You won't be disappointed.
Don’t you wish you could time travel.
My grandfather used it and I have a print he purchased from the line
I've seen this before without the silly music and it was a lot better.
Don’t forget that when it was originally shown in cinemas that it would more than likely had a pianist/organist playing a jingle little tune like that, so authentic to period really
