SUCH a chamelion and such a true artist with no shortage of emotions and expression! The use of dynamics in building the performance, different vocal chops and the use of storytelling makes for a spellbinding video! Gabby is really one of a kind and as a vocalist myself, I find that the most inspirational things about her is her dedication to her gifts, her art and her unwavering will, even hunger, to always keep masfering her craft. I'm just as nerdy about vocal technique as she is and love your sit-down videos together when she talks about her journey, her voice, her habits, ecperiences and everything. I can relate so much. We're the same age and I don't have a condition anywhere near hers, but I have struggled with sleep apnea as a unwanted side effect from my lower jaw surgery 10 years ago and the amounts of times I have woken up gasping for air after having had a pause in my breathing, in full on panick, feeling like I'm getting a heart attack or something, having death anxiety, are countless. I like her have been exhausted and tried so many remedies until finally surrendering to the cpap. Trying times like those has only made me stronger and more robust. As an empath I already have access to a whole lot of emotions very easily, but going through that has definitely helped me in having those really tough and heavy feelings to draw from that I'm trying to use as a performer. I carry a lot of shame for this, but have finally like Gabby, come to accept that this happened to me and as of right now, it's a constant thing that I need to accept and treat. This condition and my love for music and songwriting were my main motivators for getting into vocal lessons 3.5 years ago, I had barely been singing before. I like Gabby, have had my troubles learning to sing in English as a European (I'm Swedish and have an American voice teacher). I also love the bel canto technique and opera as well as rock and musical theatre. I also have unusual gifts in my voice that I'm blessed with. For me it's the opposite of the spectrum from Gabby, I am a high soprano, that has a similarly placed voice to a trebble voice yet with more substance, my voice teacher describes it as Deniece Williams meets Kelly Clarkson. I also have increased my range a lot and feel like I have quite the range in both notes, vocal intensities and vocal abilities and styles, but like her I find the quality of the notes with a great tone and ability to carry emotion, power, dynamics and vibrato through your range much more important. I never thought I cound sing or that I had sonething special, I thought I was only a writer. Discovering that I indeed did at 27 was such a suprise to me and I've never wanted to stop being on this discovering journey since then, it turned into so much more than I'd ever hoped and it has changed my whole perception of myself and my life. I've realized now that I can be both a writer and composer as well as a singer and actress and musical theatre, which I used to love as a little girl, has become something that I'm trying to pursue. I'm a late bloomer of course, but I've realised that it's never too late to start investing in yourself and develope your innate talents and get a skillset. The important thing is not when you discovered them but THAT you discovered it even at all cause often our preconceived of ourselves and our doubts are what truly stands in the way of us finding our true selves. Besides, having found this joy and passion for singing as an adult has given me a different kind of spark and cest for life, it has made me connect with my inner child and completely openened up my mind to always discovering, playing, growing and evolving which is actually worth the world. Singing has become very spiritual for me. My grandfather passed away suddenly on the day that I was gonna have my first ever lesson and I had been procrastinating even scheduling a lesson for 1,5 years before that, but my brorher believed I had potential and had been trying to convince me all that time. I had to rechedule the lesson until the day before his funeral a week after. For some reason, I've had this feeling ever since that he's been with me and rooting for me on this journey. Singing has changed my life and awakened my soul and I feel like it has did exactly the same for Gabby. I relate so much the analogy about the voice being a wild horse, it really has a life of it's own. I have some song suggestions for songs that I love to hear Gabbys take on, that would suite her so well. La Man of La Mancha would be amazing to hear, preferably in the musical theatre artist Linda Eder's version. Acid Queen from Tommy the musical is another one and also Le Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge the musical, preferably in Aaron Tveits version. Time Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show would be awesome and so would Pour Some Sugar On Me. And Rockin Robin by Michael Jackson would be a fun one! Also Snow Angel - Renee Rapp would be so incredibly powerful in her voice! As well as No One But You - Queen, Find Your Way Back - Jefferson Starship, All I Want Is You - U2, Working For the Weekend - Loverboy, Gangs On the Street - Loverboy, Sweet and Simple - Journey, First Time - Robin Beck, To Be With You - Mr Big, I'll Be There For You - Bon Jovi, Heat Above - Greta Van Fleet. The Only way is up - Jazz would be a fun one too for her. Also, an operatic piece would be awesome to hear! Maybe Habanera - Carmen or Vissi D'Arte - Tosca. She could probably do both the Phantom part and Christine part in the Phantom of the opera song. Also, The Great Gig In the Sky would be awesome. Savage Garden's - Crash & Burn I think wouls sound beautiful in her voice too and sound very heartfeld. Lots of great suggestions for her, been loving the different genre of songs that she's been singing lately and can’t wait to hear what she has in store moving forward!
