I hacked and rickrolled my entire high school district

- This was my senior prank, which involved controlling every projector and TV in my high school district. This video only shows one of the six high schools in our district, but all of them were hacked!
This video was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic (April 2021), so many classes seemed empty since the district was under hybrid instruction.

being rickrolled in the year 2022 is probably the most infuriating thing that could happen
The teacher maxing out the volume is an absolute legend.
The Script that was used to rickroll the district actually turned the projectors on and put them on max. volume every 10 seconds in case someone tried to shut them off

This is way more fun than the senior pranks that happened at my high school like the hallway being filled with desks or balloons being placed in the toilets

I’m really hoping this guy got in no trouble at all. It was pretty harmless, didn’t interrupt class time, and it was hilarious. My school would track down whoever did it and suspend them.
He explains in a blog post that he didn't get in trouble and actually worked with the districts tech team to fix the vulnerabilities, for which he had a massive well written report to show them. Very cool story!
Wtf. There was like 6 kids in his class and 12 kids in the whole school. He'd be easy to track down.

Props to the district admins for not pursuing any charges and instead using the whole thing as a learning experience for them as well. They were good-natured enough to recognize the harmless nature behind the prank.
This is a prime example of using power responsibly. This type of exploit could've been used for much worse things than a harmless rickroll and the D214 admins likely knew that.
I can't believe all the students just walking away like they couldn't care less, I'd be laughing my butt off. 😂

Probably one of the smartest things done during this planning (apart from the actual hacking) is that it was timed exactly at what I assume was the end of the day on Friday, so that teacher/staff would have to wait until next week for any kind of retaliation

It was smart not to have it happen at the end of the day, or else people probably wouldn't stick around to enjoy it. By doing it in between classes they weren't disruptive at all, and students are able to laugh about it before their next class.

Yeah, if I ever end up working at a school as their IT guy and this happens I am going full out grey hat to find the fucker who messed with my systems, gave me even more work which I would have to do over the weekend and get him kicked out and arrested for breaking the computer misuse act (yes I am a brit) no seriously I would be soo pissed off that someone breached the network I maintain to the point they are lucky I don't punch their face in because you have to report things like this, and if it was me I would just out of spite kill all the power to the building, no seriously I would have to kill all communication the network has to the Internet, quarantining it while I work through the intre network to find every single infected device on the network and where the breach started from, it maybe all fun an games for the student, but when it comes back round they will not have it easy because the IT team will have his head and if the school defends him, it's a shame they control the network not the teachers, seriously don't piss off your IT guys they can make your life hell

Wouldn’t work like that. They’d get email notifications or txt msg but the response time between logging into servers and trying to input commands/real-time diagnose the situation would take a while. In this case, longer then it would take for everyone to leave class.

Interestingly enough, part of the exploit the group used actually forces the volume to set itself to max every 10 seconds. As for why that class was louder than the others I’m not sure. In the description there is a very interesting dev/exp log that explains the whole thing.

This is one of the reasons why my friends would get called to the front office. It was because they knew the school computer systems better than the IT guys at the school district.
My friend would shut down our school Wi-Fi, which would stop all zoom classes and usually teachers would just end the class because most people couldn’t see what was going on. Don’t know how he did but it was pretty much everyday for 1-2 weeks until people started to assume who it was LMAO

Schools most of the time have on big server, that most PCs run of. They do it bcs it's cheaper and everything can be easily controlled and updated from one PC with master access. If u hack that PC u have control over every PC in that network.

Because of that I got into the wifi network of my old school and had free network connection for a year until they changed the password 😂
