How do you even start creating such a masterpiece
Skrillex's power lies in drum compression and top melody ideas. You get sucked into the flow and all encompassing feel of the drums, and then he drops it and has this weird saturated vocal chop thing that somehow evokes a lot of emotion. The rest of the song isn't majorly complex or even musically interesting, but the cadence of the drums, and the emotions in his leads have always been special
you can tell we all have evolved as producers because you know just seeing the project file was way more hype than a music video for this song

What i've learned from looking at Skrillex's project files...
1. You can never have too many layers (just remember to mix them all correctly)
2. Working on a project for "too long" isn't possible, remind yourself to take breaks and come back to it later.
3. That one sample may have sounded cool in the beginning of the project, but you might find something that fits the track better later.
often i start with a genre and end in another genre :D and 3h producing, 2h break, 3h producing, 2h break....
And use a lot of EQ

Everyone does this but instead of using the term distortion they use a more "sophisticated" word that is saturation. It is essentially distorting the sound to bring out certain frequencies.

Everyone's always on that "I want the old Skrillex" to me I still hear the same dude. His continuity of style is in the way he controls energy.
I almost hear a bit of Tears in this tune, from QFF…. in some of the builds especially.
A lot of people don't realize, most if not all hip-hop producers of today would go out of business if edm artist's shift their production to hip hop. You can clearly see this in the beginning of this track that skrillex probably effortlessly put together that loop. EDM artist are masters of sound design and daws
