They did this to my Zenfone 6 as well. Had a broken charging port. They claimed water damage and sent it back with not just the repairs I asked for but also a new camera and screen. It totalled over €250. They shipped the broken parts back and the water damage indicator wasn't even discolored.
Had the exact same thing with a laptop I bought from them, stopped working out of nowhere one day, sent it off for repair under warranty, sent it back telling me it was “water damage” despite it sitting in my office and never being near a water source, and a repair bill for £3,000 - the laptop was £1,500 brand new - so it was just a “fuck off” quote and they never had any intention of honouring their warranty. This is how you alienate and lose your customer base. Asus needs to fire whoever is pushing these policies if they want to continue in this market segment.
When I got my A15 Tuf gaming laptop just as I was leaving high school 4 few years ago, the LCD cracked within 2 days of me using it. Tried to claim it on warranty for a repair, but the claimed that I had impacted the screen and charged me USD 250, not including shipping. They replaced it with a screen that has like four imperfections that look like fingerprint indents and incorrectly in the frame that cut off the edges of the screen, but it was too expensive to go through the process again, and I needed a laptop for university. Their business practices have been shady for years, man. I love my ASUS, but I'd never recommend the company to anyone, nor would I buy another laptop from them.
Samsung tried doing something similar to me saying it had water damage but was never in water and worked fine aside from the issue that o forgot what it was. I told them thats bullshit ans the wet strips get set off if its fucking humid just fix the one issue i sent it in for and they said ok
That's why steam support is superior. When I rma'd my steam deck after warranty, two weeks after to be more precise, due to a faulty battery not charging anymore and the touch screen not working. They still went ahead and fixed it and were always in communication with everything and even replaced the back shell of the deck because there was a crack in it which I never even ask them to do. They just did it which was awesome. Needless to say I was very happy with the outcome.
oh yeah, can verify, sent in my ally for the EXACT same issue, they tried to get me to pay $100+ for a BACKPLATE that had the most minor problem ever, took multiple calls to asus to finally get them to cover just my joysticks under warranty, they would not proceed with anything until the backplate was addressed. Starting to lose faith in the Asus ecosystem
We had this issue with a monitor as well. Returned it without issue, disregarded the reported issue on the ticket. We had to make a TH-cam showing the issue to get them to repair it.
Oh thank god that they didn’t do that to me. I ordered my monitor online when I first started gaming. It was an Asus 32in ultra-wide and it had one part of the screen that was just broken internally when it came. When we figured it out, we shipped it back and got a replacement.
Many shops actually look for "small faults" because if anything looks diffrent when it leaves they can get in a lot of trouble. At my work we cant send warranty clams if there is the smallest dent on a phone chassi because they wont be able to put a screen back exactly as it should be. They are not shitheads thats just how careful they have to be
I once visited my local Asus service centre with my zephyrus g14 which would shut down randomly. It was under warranty but the guy there said that I had to pay so that he could reinstall windows to fix the problem. I had no idea about this sort of stuff so I left. I later took my laptop to a renowned service centre to the nearby city and they replaced the battery and now my laptop works totally fine till this day.
Also had my fair share of similar situations with asus. Took them 4 months to have a look at my 500€ mainboard that had a defective soundcard, just to send it back after supposedly fixing it (was just as broke when i got it back as when i sent it to them) and during the second try it took them 3 months to tell my that I supposedly damaged it with 2 tiny specs of dried up cooling liquid on a covered part of the Mainboard. Even if there had been more on the Mainboard, which I am fairly certain there wasn't, it couldn't have damaged anything since I've learned from my leaking cooling system 2 years ago and made sure to buy the non-conductive type.....
That’s called an upsell literally every warranty you submit for will do that same thing. Just like mechanics, CPAs, dentists, anything that sells a service will attempt to profit off of any interaction with a returning customer.
Steve was also taking into the FTC on behalf of other peoples issues, mine being one of them, i sent in a motherboard with PCIE issues and the tried to claim damages that either the courier that THEY hired caused or that their staff caused, which in their words made it fall out of warranty, and not only that they tried to charge me $50 over msrp for repair and than said "we dont repair motherboards we only replace" at the end of the day they did honor it but the replacement i got was scratched to hell (its a white bf550 so Cosmetics was one of the main reasons of picking that board) and warped bad enough to see with the naked eye
Asus tried to scam me too! My laptop started running slow out of no where. So I called their customer service and they wanted me to go through the process of sending in my laptop for repair. But I used my negotiation skills I learned from Chris Voss and had them reveal that in order for my laptop to be fixed I simply need to change one setting in the settings menu!
I just recently built a new pc, and had ordered a 4080 super strix card directly from ASUS, and the order was processing for almost 2 weeks when I finally got an email from them saying they cancelled my order with no further details. Didn’t say anything about the item being out of stock or any issues with payment or anything, just completely left me in the dark. All the email said was it was cancelled and to try to order again. So I ordered an Msi card instead
As an honest mechanic working in the automotive repair industry, this is sounding REAL similar to those horror stories you hear of other mechanics or service advisors trying to make an extra buck on an already "free" service for the warranty. We need transparency in most industries or corporations will take advantage of anything
I saw that entire video, it doesn’t matter if you are tech savvy or not, the problem is they don’t respond to your mails and instead send automated threat mails saying your device will be disassembled and sent back to you if you dont pay in 2 days, this is enough to panic anyone.
I just consider all electronic warranties void when I buy the hardware. If I research it, and find reviews where it needed any warranty work at all, even by a single reviewer, I just don't buy it. After buying 5 phones that didn't have their warranties honored I finally gave up on relying on warranties. I did take one guy that did a repair for me in the eighties to court, but his lawyer went in chambers with the judge and when I received my judgement in the mail it said, "Even though the court finds a preponderance of the evidence in favor of the plaintiff, the court finds in favor of the defendant."
My friend has a problem with their warranty for his Zephyrus G15. 3 days after opening the box and using it for daily drive, screen died. Tried claiming the warranty but apparently he has to pay half of the repair cost. He got pissed and traded it for MSI laptop on the other store nextdoor. He's happy now at least
I wouldn't call this scam but a universal rule. Every tech company's technical support is like this. Just go for the local shop and you'll meet your expectations there
I once sent in my iPhone for battery replacement to Apple. They sent me back a picture of my phone, claiming that it arrived dead and I had to pay for a new one. But I made an iCloud backup just a minute before putting it into the mail, so I could backup my claim that it was working perfectly fine when it went out to Apple. In the end, they sent me a free new phone after I spoke to the supervisor on phone. Never give up
I had a cell phone start acting up on me before while it was still under warranty. I took it in to the store and they tried to deny it because of a hairline crack in the phone case. I told them that's fine go ahead and cancel my 10 year old account. Then they changed their mind, made it seem like they were going out of their way to do me a favor. The used refurb they sent me had a hairline crack in the same exact spot and it wasn't working properly either. When I took it back, they accused me of dropping it. "They wouldn't have shipped it out like that." They said they would go ahead and let me exchange it (again, acting as if they're doing me a favor). This time I told them to send the phone to the store and I'll come pick it up. Had them open it in front of me and no shit it had a hairline crack in the same spot. "I thought they wouldn't ship it out like that".
Stuff like this happens not because of the company trying to actively scam people but because the company outsources to a 3rd party and giving them bonuses or penalties based on how quickly the 3rd party can get through tickets. This leads to the 3rd party looking for shortcuts in handling tickets like finding a tiny scratch on the device and writing it off as user damage instead of filling out a proper repair form and sending the device to ASUS.
It's a rampant problem where companies are no longer standing behind They're products producing garbage in foreign countries and using the customers as test pilots
Worked at one of the biggest ISPs shops in Sweden for 10+ years, ALOT of the times it was the same thing with customerd cell phones that we sent to our official repair shop. Really scammy.
They have been doing this for YEARS Tried to tell me an EEPROM was gonna cost $120 CAD for shipping - the EEPROM was approximately the same diameter as a US or Canadian Dime) Also tried to get me to do an ARMA for cost of shipping to and from the facility, and a hold of 3 times the value of the phone just to get a loaner - I was already paying $150 for a replacement cracked screen + shipping! That was the last time I tried to warranty or repair anything with these guys. The Apple Repair Center does the same thing - send in for a repair cause the store doesn’t do it for something like a port that no longer holds onto the cable (little ball bearings inside your port that slide into small divots on your cable end) and they’ll quote an out of warranty replacement due to “liquid damage”

your loss , also dont get the ally x also :)
Good move, dodged a bullet more than likely.
This is how you alienate and lose your customer base. Asus needs to fire whoever is pushing these policies if they want to continue in this market segment.
Wait I just realized ASUS stands for : A sus imposter 😮😮😮😮😮😮
We should buy an rog alley, open it, put it back in, and see what they say
I hate how theres basically no companies left with any integrity.
Samsung tried doing something similar to me saying it had water damage but was never in water and worked fine aside from the issue that o forgot what it was. I told them thats bullshit ans the wet strips get set off if its fucking humid just fix the one issue i sent it in for and they said ok
Sent my kid for repair. ASUS said customer's accident is outside the warranty.
ASUX
Trying to scam gaming nexus is like trying to trick the guy you go to when companies can’t fix what happened that’s next level insanity
Crazy thing is is this would probably cost the company more than just replacing it
We had this issue with a monitor as well. Returned it without issue, disregarded the reported issue on the ticket. We had to make a TH-cam showing the issue to get them to repair it.
Wasn't expecting this from Asus
Well it's already bad enough that big companies never actually repair consoles these days and just send you a refurbished copy.
Asus has always done this stuff for years now
Also had my fair share of similar situations with asus.
Crazy how gamers nexus keeps having all these “scams” happen to him.
That’s called an upsell literally every warranty you submit for will do that same thing. Just like mechanics, CPAs, dentists, anything that sells a service will attempt to profit off of any interaction with a returning customer.
Steve was also taking into the FTC on behalf of other peoples issues, mine being one of them, i sent in a motherboard with PCIE issues and the tried to claim damages that either the courier that THEY hired caused or that their staff caused, which in their words made it fall out of warranty, and not only that they tried to charge me $50 over msrp for repair and than said "we dont repair motherboards we only replace" at the end of the day they did honor it but the replacement i got was scratched to hell (its a white bf550 so Cosmetics was one of the main reasons of picking that board)
and warped bad enough to see with the naked eye
That's every warranty department anywhere ever
We desperately need a corporate death penalty in this country, and scamming your customer base is definitely one of those situations that warrant it.
Random ASUS employee: Aaand another warranty claim successfully denied, wait, why do I hear boss music?
I just recently built a new pc, and had ordered a 4080 super strix card directly from ASUS, and the order was processing for almost 2 weeks when I finally got an email from them saying they cancelled my order with no further details. Didn’t say anything about the item being out of stock or any issues with payment or anything, just completely left me in the dark. All the email said was it was cancelled and to try to order again. So I ordered an Msi card instead
Forced arbitration should be illegal.
Asus like: “We loosing credibility with this one 🗣️🗣️💯❗️❗️
As an honest mechanic working in the automotive repair industry, this is sounding REAL similar to those horror stories you hear of other mechanics or service advisors trying to make an extra buck on an already "free" service for the warranty. We need transparency in most industries or corporations will take advantage of anything
Got an asus ad after this.
A company scamming its customers for money. WHAT?!?!?
Sounds like classic warranty company/ insurance company tactics.
They thought they scammed one random dude. They did not know that they messed with the wrong person.
No, they just scam everyone indiscriminately and were unlucky to hit someone really capable of pushing back
My friend has a problem with their warranty for his Zephyrus G15. 3 days after opening the box and using it for daily drive, screen died. Tried claiming the warranty but apparently he has to pay half of the repair cost. He got pissed and traded it for MSI laptop on the other store nextdoor.
He's happy now at least
And people called me crazy for getting a steam deck instead when Valve customer service is 110% amazing
I wouldn't call this scam but a universal rule. Every tech company's technical support is like this. Just go for the local shop and you'll meet your expectations there
Last time I used ASUS was maybe 20 years ago. When their tech support was only by email and took over six months to respond.
Never give up
As an asus user i had clamed my laptop warranty more than 10times
At least Asus isn't Samsung who takes a literal knife to slice your screen kn warranty claims to say it's void
That tiny damage wasn't even done by gamer Nexus he recorded his device before sending it in
The list of openly dishonest firms just grows and grows.
They have been doing this for YEARS
Tried to tell me an EEPROM was gonna cost $120 CAD for shipping - the EEPROM was approximately the same diameter as a US or Canadian Dime)
Also tried to get me to do an ARMA for cost of shipping to and from the facility, and a hold of 3 times the value of the phone just to get a loaner - I was already paying $150 for a replacement cracked screen + shipping!
