Ben Platt has the best belt while Josh Strobl, Sam Primack and Ben Levi Ross sounds the most natural and at ease going up to that high Bb...I thought that Taylor, Stephen and Andrew would sound better be side their voices are naturally high but maybe it’s a poor recording?

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate Andrew Barth Feldman, he played Evan on Broadway at age 16 AND got accepted into Harvard.
He was the one that I saw in the play. And he personified the character. 👍🏾👍🏾
why is nobody talking about Andrew Barth Feldman here?? he was 16 when he was first casted for evan. six. teen. that's majorly impressive, and his singing is phenomenal!! he deserves more recognition and his acting for evan is on point! this recording did not do him justice smh
A good of mine got to work with him at the Jimmy’s. From what I heard he’s an amazing soul off stage as well.
I saw Andrew!!!! His acting was his strongest suit i think, and his singing is still incredible! And I completely agree with this recording not doing him justice- his voice is much more beautiful in person

The best Evan, character-wise, is Andrew Barth Feldman hands down imo. But singing-wise, Jordan Fisher, Ben Levi Ross and Ben Platt simply cannot be touched. People don't often talk about Ross but he has an incredible voice and is arguably the only that doesn't sound like he's reaching and/or straining for the notes in the climax.
I would look into Sam a bit more too vocally! He has a tik tok and posts singing vids and he can actually belt quite high!
Ross his vowels and tone are immaculate like I got goose bumps
I saw Andrew Barth Feldman in NYC on broadway for a vacation once, and I was so blown away. I cant say anything about the other Evans, but I listen to the soundtrack that uses Ben Platts voice and I love it as well. I also really like the girl that they had at the same time in only us
I absolutely agree, especially with Ross. Even between those three, it's still very clear to me that he is the most technically proficient when he sings this role. Every song I've heard him sing, he has incredible control and air flow, commanding both extremes of his range with such ease!

I think that audio was of Andrew’s last show, So he was likely a bit emotional. I saw him and July and I think he sounded better on this than when I saw him. Just remember he was 16/17 at the time so he wasn’t totally consistent vocally

Idk. I was pretty underwhelmed with his voice when I saw him. He wasn't bad by any means, but he was definitely straining a lot more than any other Evan I've ever seen. He was more shouting the high notes than actually singing through them. It sounded a lot like this audio, actually.
I’ve heard other recordings of his singing, and I do think he’s better than this clip gives the impression of. Personally, I feel like his strengths lie in his acting and how easy it is to really connect him to this anxious teenager (admittedly he is one, but still) and his emotions.
Eh personally I think he has too much nasal and over uses the vibrato.

Ben Levi Ross is so underrated! Vocally the strongest and the most fitting to the character. Easily the best Evan had he played the role first. Sam Tutty is also promising when I saw him live -- far better than he sounds here.

Sam Tutty does an incredible job as Evan, not to take away from any of the others because they’re all amazing, but Sam Tutty really embodies Evan and has a certain softness to his voice that really adds to his performance

Though all these gentlemen sound excellent, I find Sam’s voice to be exceptionally healthy and his singing a lot more natural. His phrasing is very intentional and precise.

Ben Levi Ross is the strongest one. His vibrato is gorgeous and the tone exceptional. He more effortlessly hits the high notes than many of the others as well.

Sam Tutty is simply incredible, you can’t even tell how much by this little bit. His voice is just enough like Platts to sound like an original Evan but also so unique to him and so well trained besides that. And his acting made me want to just run up on stage and hug him. Remarkable.

Probably unpopular opinion: I saw both Sam Tutty and Marcus Harman as Evan, and I have to say I was a bigger fan of Harman. In my opinion, Harman is better at acting and at singing, but weirdly Tutty is just a better Evan... Idk, just my opinion but I do prefer Haramn

5. Andrew Barth Feldman - Felt the desperation when he belt out “can everybody see” part which is I think the emotion required by this song.
4. Stephen Christopher Anthony - I can imagine him performing it live.

I was lucky enough to see Sam Tutty as Evan last year, and let me tell you, it was phenomenal! His acting was second to none, and his cheeky little smiles and twinkle behind the emotion is just *chefs kiss*. For me, he is everything that Evan needs to and should be. Perfect!!!! In every way

Some of these guys were screwed by bad recordings. Of course Ben Platt's sounds amazing because it's a fab recording- and he's amazing. I quite liked Andrew Barth Feldman's version but I'd love to hear Steffan Hughes do it. He rocks For Forever.

The jump from the climactic belting to that final whoa coming back down takes so much control its ridiculous. These guys make it sound so easy!

My opinion:
They all did an amazing job, and decided to make the character of Evan their own, so I will not rank them. I like some of their vocal choices better than others, but they all did an amazing job.
Some of these recordings do not do the singers justice. For example, while Andrew's strength imo lies within his acting, his voice was really good in most of the recordings I've heard of him. This one just didn't do him justice. Also keep in mind, due to his age, his voice wasn't completely stable at the time, which may have also played a factor in how he handles Evan's high notes towards the end of his run

Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, Ben Levi Ross, Sam Tutty, and Jordan Fisher to me sound very strong both in the lower notes and the flip to the high belts. Everyone else sounds slightly screechy or very thin or hits a wrong note. But props to all of the Evans!!! That 'is' can be hard to hit right

Sam Tutty is the complete package visually as well as vocally, but I will say that the playback does none of them any favours
Got to see Sam Primack play Evan (with Noah Kieserman as Connor) for my birthday a month before the pandemic shut down everything. So so grateful for that. They’re all phenomenal!

Many people are saying Jordan Fisher and yes, he is AMAZING, but I can’t get used to him as Evan because he just seems too.. cool? I don’t know how to explain it, but I see him as someone who would be in the popular kids group or something, rather than an anxious teen. I can’t judge though, as I haven’t seen him live and I’ve only seen short clips of him as Evan. Maybe I’m just seeing Jordan instead of Evan, Haha, I don’t know. He is definitely INSANELY talented though and I wish I could see him perform!

I saw him. He did really really good. Like I was shocked because he did AWESOME. However, I totally get your point because he does seem and sound “cool” however I try to think of it as like.. social anxiety can affect anyone- no matter who u are or what you look like. Once you get past the cool vibe of him- he deserved this role. Wasn’t my favorite but he’s up there in the top 5.

When I saw Dear Evan Hansen, Stephen Christopher Anthony was Evan Hansen, but Noah Kieserman and Matthew Edward Kemp we’re also in the show. It was a great show and all of them are great singers. We were also in the front row sense we won the lottery for it.

Can't comment on everyone based on this:
Consistently sings the part REALLY well - Ben Levi Ross. But have never seen any bootlegs of his, so can't really comment on the acting.
Ben Platt - Consistently good with the acting side, but not always rock solid with the vocals. He seems to do loads better generally in more controlled conditions, concerts and recordings and the like. He's got an incredible voice, but I think he felt a lot of pressure, as the original Evan - Tony Award winner, and all that, to go on, even when he wasn't in the best place vocally. So there's some shaky performances unfortunately.
Taylor Trensch - Lovely acting. He has a really unique voice, which I can never quite decide if I like or not. But I'm always really drawn to him as a performer. So he's doing something right.
Jordan Fisher - It's a real shame he only got 2 months as Evan before lockdown. Everything I've seen of his interpretation has been lovely. Great vocals, great acting. I look forward to seeing what he does with the part.
Andrew Barth Feldman - He's just a little treasure. Solid acting, vocals usually pretty good, but not always consistent. I do wonder whether, in hindsight, the producers decided a teenager was a bit too young to carry the main role of a show like this, because they hopped right back to a mid-20s performer with a track record right after.
Ben Levi Ross has great acting in this scene. SO GOOD all around.
The thing you have to remember about ABF is that he's a very mature actor, and this is a really difficult role. Most teens wouldn't be able to handle it in this caliber of a production. That's why it was such a big deal when he got cast.

I saw Matthew Edward Kemp as Evan recently and he was PHENOMENAL. Hard to hear on this but his voice is immaculate, his sustained high notes blessed my ears

I've never really noticed this before, but I think Ben Platts very quick vibrato really adds to Evans character specifically, cuz it's easier to provide a feeling of anxiety when it's spinning so quickly 🤷♂
