Modern Motoring - Reviewing the 2018 Hyundai Accent

  • All-new for 2018, Hyundai's subcompact Accent is full of value, good looks and a well-appointed interior for around $20 K.
The manual transmission in our tester shifts quite smoothly (you can jump on the automatic option if desired for a bit more money) the 1.6L 4-cylinder engine puts out a respectable 130 horsepower and 119 lb-ft. of torque and if you're looking for a functional vehicle to tote around town with, this should be on your short list.
With design cues clearly taken from the Elantra, the Accent boats class-leading 616 L of trunk space, as well as great fuel efficiency.
I"d opt for the top trim GLS, giving you heated front seats and steering wheel, CarPlay and Android Auto, a sunroof and plenty of other goodies.

I'm a new driver! I just bought my first car...an 08' powder blue Hyundai Accent SE hatchback 2d (automatic). I love it!!! It's perfect for me :)

You have potential as a reviewer. Likeable personality, the right amount of details covered, easy going delivery.
Only improvement I'd suggest is to get over your own biases, as it shows in the repetitive justifications about the lack of power. No need to apologize for what you view as the car's shortcomings. Just give us the facts and how the product compares to the competition. Viewers can decide for themselves if they like it or not.
    Thanks for the review.

this hatchback looks actually good. if Hyundai's Philippine distributor will bring this hatchback here especially with a Diesel engine, i would definitely buy it.

If I was 25 years younger this would be perfect for driving around the GTA. But expectations change. Good for what it is.

The biggest mistake Hyundai have ever done was getting rid of the hatchback version for the U.S Market, and putting it in the Canadian Marketplace but who knows maybe it will make a return in the 2021 model year.

We, as hatchback fans, certainly hope so.

Does the middle screen between the gauges display a digital speedometer at all when you go through the menus?

Hello Modern Mississauga Media, I love this new accent. I will definitely buy this car as it is perfect for driving in congested the downtown Toronto city traffic.
I have one question though. I currently drive a manual transmission vehicle and am considering purchasing the GLS manual transmission Accent. How is the clutch? Is it "Soft" when you clutch in? Tell me what you think. Your review was great. I watched it twice! Thanks.

Dam this is perfect. Like a little Elantra GT. LOVE the expensive look. I haven't seen this here in the states . Is this just in Canada and Europe?

Can you review 2020 Hyundai accent essential manual

    • @Modern.Motoring

      Hi Samia,
It's rare that manufacturers put manual vehicles on their press fleet as it's the high-volume selling trims that are on the fleet.
Currently, only the Kona and Sonata are on Hyundai Canada's press fleet.
If it changes, you'll certainly see the review here.

If Hyundai offered this configuration in the US, I'd buy it tomorrow. But no hatch at all for the US, and you can only get the manual on the base SE. Seems foolish considering that they're already producing this car for the North American market. Why limit sales potential?
