      The ATR 72 cannot replicate the unique prop sound for some reason 6:13 main reason why I love the Dash 8 😊

    When the pilot pitches the propellers and syncs them at 25:55. Always put me directly to sleep.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING! As a Piedmont FA myself, I do miss the DASH from time-to-time. A real TRUCK but the cabin was A LOT more comfortable than our current ERJ145. We got bounced a lot during low enroutes, but it was a great bird to serve on. And as a pilot, I miss the "ARRRR-OWWWW" wow sound of Beta taxi thrust - just like the King Air I got to fly. I wish I had kept a logbook of the registrations I flew; most trips were on the -100 as -300s were ROA-based before CLT opened. VERY fond memories indeed. THANKS AGAIN!

    This view is from the starboard side. In this video, it was a long taxi time.
    I'm a big fan of turboprop airliners. I wish that most large airliners used for most domestic flights, like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A-320 were turboprop instead of fan jet. I love the sound that the props make, the "box fan" sound in high idle and taxiing, and the "bumblebee" sound on takeoff and infiight. Much of the public is convinced that the turboprop engine is a turbocharged piston driven propeller engine, rather than a jet propeller engine. But if you listen to that engine when it fires up, you can hear the whine of the jet engine as the propeller starts to rotate. If you're outside the aircraft, you can smell it in the exhaust. To help educate the public that the turboprop engine is a jet engine with a propeller attatched, I recommend painting the words '"PROP JET" in big letters on the sides of the engine cowels.
    They usually fire up the starboard engine first, and then the port engine. I think that for one flight, they should fire up port first, and then starboard, and then starboard and port for the next flight, so that the engines wear evenly. During a fuel crisis when they want to taxi on one engine, I favor the "POSH" rule, port out, starboard home. That means taxiing out on the port engine, and taxiing in on the starboard engine.

      Yess and I'm still heated about the decision dash 8 made perfect sense for short distance flights and were like the five speeds of the airlines very good on fuel because of the engine design and concept.

  • @Zayday1993

    Man I really wish aviation didn't get rid of all their turboprops

    • @roberts9095
      @roberts9095 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can thank the uneducated masses for that. Airlines in the US largely have retired turboprops due to a false perception among the flying public that propeller driven aircraft are inherently less safe than jets.

      I love the sound that the props make, the "box fan" sound in high idle and taxiing, and the "bumblebee" sound in takeoff and inflight. I don't like the idea of regional jets. I think that 737's and Airbus A-320's should have four turboprops instead of the two fan jets. Turboprops, though a bit slower, are more fuel efficient. Turboprop engines are jet engines with propellers attatched. Many are lead to believe that they are turbocharged piston engines. I think they should paint the words "PROP JET" in big letters on the sides of the engine cowels.

    Some say that driving a vehicle with a manual transmission is "REAL DRIVING"! I say that flying in a propeller driven airliner is "REAL FLYING!" The props are fascinating to watch on the computer screen. The 60 cycle flicker creates optical illusions of the props going slower or backwards. This view is from the starboard side. They always fire up the starboard engine first and then the port engine. I think they should alternate in engine startup sequence flight to flight. For one flight, fire up port first, and then starboard. The next flight, starboard and then port, This would be to equalize engine wear and tear.

    • @darrellgordon7456

      the right engine is always started 1st and shut down last. The passenger entry and baggage doors are on the Left side. so they will never be started 1st under normal circumstances.

    I love the sound that the props make, the "BOX FAN sound in high idle and taxiing, and the "BUMBLEBEE" sound in takeoff and inflight. I don't like the idea of "Reginal Jets" and I wish that most mainline airliners used for most domestic flights were turboprop instead of pure jet. To get passengers to better accept the turboprops, more cabin insulation would be one solution to somewhat muffle the bass hum and vibration heard inside the cabin inflight. Also paint in big letters on the sides of the engine cowels, "PROP JET"! That would help educate the public that the turboprop engine is a jet engine with a propeller attaches, and not a turbocharged piston driven propeller engine..

      USAir(ways) bought a ton of them for their regional carriers in the late 80s and American inherited them after the merger. Also remember them being on Continental and Delta.

      @lucascalma605 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@planesguyThat's right, Alaska Airlines is the last DHC 8 operator in the United States. Sadly, this won't last forever, because as of 2022, there's news that there will soon no longer be DHC 8s in the US in late-23 as Alaska Airlines has announced plans earlier this year in March to discontinue turboprop operations alongside their Airbus A320 family aircraft to plan a more efficient fleet of aircraft.

  • @stormbytes

    23 minutes of taxiing?? Come on man you should have edited that down to no more than 2.

    • @planesguy
      @planesguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why this glorious function on youtube lets you skip ahead in the video, turning that 23 minute taxi into a few seconds! I upload them unedited in that way so that people have the choice to come along for the full flight experience, or just come and watch the critical stages of flight :)

    • @tcrooksyyz
      @tcrooksyyz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The taxiing sound of a DASH 8 is the best white noise for sleep. I made a loop from this and play it when I sleep. It’s hard to find this much taxi sound. Second best sound is a full spool but there’s only couple minutes of that. Only thing better is a C130
