I've been using stop beads instead of corner beads (only on re skim jobs ) for example on a chimney breast id fit the stop bead onto the front face then slide it across the edge so when skimming the sides you have an edge to skim up to .On the sides I skrim tape right up to the bead and up to now ive had no problem with durability of the corner . Will probably get frowned upon but I find it works well . Great tutorial 👌

Hi Blaine, as usual all good praise for your work. Just boarded and beaded bedroom. when plastering followed your guide as to sweep up along beading instead of troweling towards the bead. made the mistake of not squashing the beading to shape before fixing. the angle was so bad i ignored your rule and swept towards the bead. YES SKI SLOPE. tried the correct way but bead was so high I think i would have needed Eddie the Eagle to be brave enough to follow the rule. Thanks again mate.

This is the correct way, the plaster inside the bead. Other videos showing the bead being stapled then plastered is wrong. The bead will crack. I've fitted 100s of these, always plaster inside, push in place and hold by pins or staple.

Hi my friend watched one of your vids on bonding plaster to level up so it's flat and ready for skim coat good video. I've got a wall that's 10 ft across I put a straight edge across it and it's out about 6 or 7 millimetres out in the middle ,probably about 4 foot each side of the centre so 8 foot in all, if I skim it a large area of the wall will be 10mm thick so I thought after watching your video bonding plaster would be a better way to go. Any advice would be cool.
Hi Blaine, what do you do if the beads are too short to use onwhatever your trying to put them on? Do you join the beads or just attach another bead next to it? I've heard attaching the beads is the best way, but no idea how to do it. Keep up the good work. Love these videos
We use pink grip when beading over existing walls
Ok just chucking this in the mix but if we can’t screw beads on then we use an expanding foam gun & put 4/5 pumps on the internal face of the bead then hold in place with Duct tape. We always do all our prep the day before but the foam will set & hold the bead in around 20 minutes so remove tape & scrape away excess foam & Spread Away 👍🏻 ATB Guys & Happy New Year & hope this helps 😀

What type of plaster/filler would you recommend for the finishing coats on corner bead? I had a plasterer install them and plastered over with easifill but left it bodged and bubbled up, needing several more coats. Would you suggest a primer to seal existing easifill then more coats of the same, or should I use another product? I’ve heard easifill can be prone to bubbling, some people seem to prefer ready-mixed.
Hi, thanks for the channel. I'm doing a room with a few external corners, already plasterboarded. I have thincoat beads, so should I apply the scratch coats first, then bead then finish coats? Many thanks.
Hi mate. Sorry, I'm a bit confused... If it's plasterboard you don't need to apply a scratch coat. Just fix the beads and plaster directly onto the board. Is this what you mean pal? Cheers 👍
Plastering For Beginners I was going to do them already on plastered walls, if I do that, can I use skimming plaster to cover the beads or will I need to use a bonding coat? Thank you.
no edge to check it its straight. Should always use a straight edge to check the corner is straight before applying the bead.

in my plastering exam I actually used a stapler on drywall beading.... yep I had a bollocking lol

Quick couple of questions please. When you use plaster to fit beading, you mainly concentrated on applying plaster to one side of the breast, is there a reason why you wouldn't add it to both sides, or is it simply not necessary ?
Also, I have some uneven corners on my patio door frame, which I plan to re-plaster. Is it advisable to re-bead over existing beading, or would you suggest another method ?

+Mel Allmark Hi Mel, good to hear from you again mate! No I'd actually advise to plaster both sides I just didn't want to bore everyone and waste time ha! In terms of your patio doors I would bead over the existing corner. However if the bead is visible and it isn't galvanised or stainless then the only issue would be that the rust could penetrate through your new plaster work. Other than that I bead over existing corner's or simply form a new one using a backing plaster and timber straight edges.

Thanks again mate I appreciate that! The ones you want for finish plaster is the slim line corner beads since they only have a depth of 3mm. The thick float beads are for rendering and backing plasters. Theres many types but its easy when you start :)
I see. So just to clarify, if I am rendering over bare brick (which I do have) then the wider beading is necessary. And over boards, then the narrow type ?

It depends on the situation matey. This wall was out but that’s because it’s an old house…it always depends on the job I suppose.

Does it matter whether you use finishing plaster or bonding?
It's better to use Multi Finish because it's a lot less grittier - Bonding can be a bit tough because the aggregate is a lot thicker but so can still do it if you need to pal! However, if you can, stick with Multi. Hope this helps my friend 👍
so you dont have to put any pva on the wall first before you put he plaster on for the corner bead?
Sbr is better than pva but which ever you use it's pva then bead then plaster
Any reason why you didn't use a spirit level to check it is straight?
+trivadpt hi mate! I did check it previous actually but I try and check to see if you return was parallel more than anything else. If was actually quite plumb which was a surprise!
Depending on the wall a spirit level can be pointless haha
Just a question do you check to see if level on the plastered bead is level or not ?

I've just been doing a job replastering over concrete bulkheads high up on ceilings and had a nightmare getting the beads to stick . Then I figured out I could use a tube of sticks like or no nails wipe of excess then duct tape the bead to the bulkhead and the next morning they'd be stuck on super strong remove duct tape and skim away .
You can also use a little bit of thistle on the inside of the bead yo stick them if you have a Job to get a fix. It's Not recommend but I've had to do it a couple of times and nothing's ever gone wrong

I stick mine on with instastick fixing foam and gently tack it with dry wall screws till it's set in 2or 3 mins .used to do nails .staples and all sorts of ways but settled of foam eventually .suppose it's quite funny just how many professionals watch all this just out of curiosity ey m8
