    The next movie should be called Shinister. About a guy who loses his leg below the knee in an accident and gets the shin and foot of a deceased serial killer. The shin then makes the guy... do things... like kick children and drive too fast in a school zone.

      I think the main reason was that around this time Saw series was pretty much dead, then PA showed up, they milk the hell out of it and people lost their interest, and since there was no new sleeper\boom hit, they were desperately looking for a new October-Halloween series, so lot of these movies got unnecessary sequels.
      No wonders they sorta reviewed Saw series. Again. To be fair, I thought "Jigsaw" ok. It's more of the same, but it sorta works as a stand-alone movie, you don't really need to watch preview 100 sequels to figure out who's Jigsaw, etc. You gotta give credit where credit's due.

    I feel the lawn mower jump scare in the first one was the only "earned" jump scare in recent horror history, I wish the plot of the first was slightly different though (less jump scares, don't show the demon), the concept of sinister one is great, true crime author finds box full of snuff films is an interesting premise IMO

    "Being startled isn't being scared" thank you man, I've been telling my friends this exactly for years since we saw the first paranormal activity when we were 16 it's like when someone comes up behind you and jabs you in the ribs. Horror has to stick with you you should be thinking about it days and weeks later, shit if its a great one [my favorite horror is The Shining] you'll be thinking about it years later.

  • @Film0Graphic

    You know what could've been a good premise for the movie, having it focus on a kid in a possibly dysfunctional family, maybe one of their siblings or the mom or dad found the tapes in their attic and got curious and watched it, thinking it was homemade horror shorts. They watch them and poke fun not realizing that these are real people dying. (Because why would they think it was real). Maybe they could even make fun of Baghoul or something, kinda like how people make fun of Jason, or Michael Myers. But over the course of the movie the kid gets visited by kids from the first movie. It could've been disturbing for the audience, since we know what's happening, but the kid either wouldn't think much of it, or would be terrified of them at first. It could go into how the kids are lead into killing their family, with this they could show despite being dysfunctional, it's still a loving and caring family. So the thought of killing any of them would scare the kid. Idk, just spit balling.

    I enjoyed the first one up until Baghuul showed up and the guy explaining to Ethan Hawke what is going on. The kids were good in the first one, but the problem was Baghuul himself; just leave that part in the background, we don't need to know more about him. And of course he has to have a jump scare at the end which serves no purpose whatsoever. Sinister is one of those movies that didn't need a sequel.

    I'm especially sad to hear this because ever since I discovered that C Robert Cargill was the brilliant film critic of the outstanding Spill crew, I have been SERIOUSLY rooting for him to make it. And while it's very clear that he wrote it because of a studio demand because his first movie was so successful, I really hope it's not a black mark on his record that haunts him. As a critic, he had a very, very seriously strong understanding as to what makes a particular element or concept something that makes or breaks a film, and the idea that someone so alert to the intellectual intricacies of the craft being an actual filmmaker was, and still is, a very promising prospect.

    Drag Me to Hell was jumpscare central lol. They even did a fucking toaster jumpscare for Chrissakes. A TOASTER JUMPSCARE!

This is very disappointing as I have watched several of your other videos and I appreciated those. I don't understand why you would do this, but it is such a digression from what i expect from a review that I hated it.
    Huge fail.

    • @GoodBadFlicks
      @GoodBadFlicks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First of all this is from 6 years ago. There is some context here that is needed.
      Years ago, studios were being very difficult as far as copyright claims over current movie reviews. So putting up a video would get instantly claimed and the studio would take all the ad revenue. At the time, I was looking for ways around this so I could still talk about the movies without having to deal with the studios.
      It was an experiment that didn't work and I think I only did maybe 2-3 of these types.
      Perhaps weigh the quality of my content on what is out there that is consistent and more current than openly dumping on a video that was an oddity.

    • @johnny196775
      @johnny196775 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GoodBadFlicks That makes sense and is fair. I haven't seen enough of your work to have known how extraordinary this video was, the age of the video not withstanding. I appreciate the context and that clearly explains what I have seen here... and thank you for that. I was sincere in my disappointment.
      I can see why you would respond to the copyright issue this way.
      I can equally see why it failed as an experiment.
      I will not hold this video against you any longer, and go back to enjoying your videos; thank you for that. The fact that the video was an oddity doesn't protect you from the vagaries of the algorithm. That is to say, it can be and was randomly suggested to me in spite of it's age and lack of relevance to the body of your work... for that reason, I would suggest you remove it so you are no longer in danger of someone getting the wrong impression as I have.
      On the other hand, if it is still generating income, I can understand why you would leave it up in spite of the tiny potential for damage to your channel.
      I am glad I said something and you replied rationally.

    Sinister 2 doesn't feel like a sequel it feels more like the origin story about how the kids are turned on their parents and how the antagonist "hunts" with the video camera as a tool now if they do a third one hopefully they go back to what made the first movie great.

  • @njmfff
    @njmfff 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This was quite bad. I wasn't big fan of the first one, but at least it tried to be good and legit horror movie. This was just all over the place. There is one thing that I actually liked, and it's when Deputy figures out how main villain operates and he goes to lead lady and tells her that she must not move out of the house, but she insists because she's on the run from her husband. So it was sorta great scene because Deputy knows what's gonna happen to her and her kids if she moves, but he can't just flat out tell her the truth because he's gonna sound like a lunatic, and yet he somehow must convince her to stay.
    Anyway, Deputy was overall good thing about first movie, I don't remember any other horror movie having cop who's was like "Ok, I totally believe you it's supernatural". In horror movies cops are usually cannon fodder and represent false hope of security.

    The final jump-scare of "sinister" is so out of place and utterly nonsensical, it's the villain looking at the camera, tilting down at an angle. It's almost as if they got mixed up the last page with just that scene from some of those "scream" spoofs, I forgot the name of the series. Which isn't that good either, they're beginning of the definitive end of good spoofs.

  • @shannonreynolds624

    I think what would have been a better movie is if they would have focused on Buguul as in his origins, maybe some historical event that involved him. I don't mind a backstory of origin story with a little more detail than what was in the first one. Movies that really go into lore can be interesting and mysterious and I felt there needed to be a mystery in the center of it. I am thinking more of the movie "It" when it went back into the town's history and there were some references or old photos of Pennywise that the adults didn't notice.
    However, if they were going to go back to the origins and when Buguul became a thing, it should have had something on how to stop Buguul. I'm thinking of the idea of the power that belief has in whether or not an entity goes from being a story on a page to being brought into reality. I think that in this one, it showed that there is a choice whether or not to follow Buguul and what happens if he's not obeyed and everything falls through.
    It would have been good for the deputy to maybe team up with a retired cop who had also noticed the strangeness of the murders but thinks it's the work of a killer or family of killers who go around killing families in a ritualistic manner.
    Back stories can be good if done right, but I see what you mean with too much of backstory. The "horror" movies I like are the ones with a mystery to them. Just my thoughts.

    I'm a moderate fan when it comes to horror films. I'm more of a film of psychological horror, as opposed to flat out gore fests. That said, the first Sinister was amazing. I had really low expectations, but the movie was genuinely terrifying and I liked the characters and the (SPOILERS) dark, depressing ending. This sequel did everything wrong. This movie felt like it needed to take things to the next level. While, I appreciate them trying to continue the story with the deputy; personally, they should have stuck to the same style as the first, but mix it up. Maybe, the Baghuul can infest people's dreams and thus can interact with anyone through that route. I know that's a big strech, but this movie was awful and a major disappointment from someone who enjoyed the first movie.

    Keep doing the great work. We love your videos. Can you please review the Poltergiest remake? Or maybe the Rob Zombie Halloween 1&2? Also Deep Rising would be awesome! Thanks.

    Nope, the kids were not scary at all in this flick, although I did enjoy getting a glimpse of their motivation and how they recruit the next kid.
    Yes they were trying too hard to be too graphic, and yes there was a lot wrong with this movie, but I dig Deputy So and So, and I was entertained well enough. I have found I’m not nearly as critical with this movie as many others are. 👍🏻

    I didn't mind Bagul's screen time , I actually thought he was around less than in the 1st ( I like how they used him better as character in the 1st installment though )
    #2 wasn't that bad , I liked it , but like the vibe/editing of the 1st 10x more

    Initially when me and my mom watched the movie together we felt they were seemingly trying to turn it from a well made horror movie into a monster flick. There was too much attention or rather the wrong kind of attention on Bughul.

    To be honest, only good thing that I can remember about the first one was the super 8 footage. Rest of the movie was really medicore at it's best and after appearing of goofy ghost children with flour on their faces - movie went downhill. I hope they are gonna improve the things in the Sinistter 2, but after your review I think I gonna give up on this series (if there are even plans for third)

      I really don't like how you did this review-very odd. Please don't do anymore movies like this again with commentary only and not showing the actual characters and scenes in the movie. I love your channel but not this, sorry.

      Cynthia Monroe 1. The movie had just came out, so why/how would he use footage for the review. 2. This was made in 2015, not 2018. 3. Personally speaking, in no way is it odd. He literally just gave out a standard review on a movie for people like you. Pretty much what all reviewers do when a movie just comes

    I LOVED the first film. Probably my favorite horror movie of all time actually. It was so unique and different and I agree with good bad flicks, it was genuine fear. I rarely get uneasy watching a movie but this got me, in the pit of my stomach just very nervous for what was going to happen next. For the sequel...yeah it just couldn't match the intense feelings of fear the first one had which was going to be impossible anyways given that the first movie we were unlocking a mystery, this one we weren't. I do agree that they showed Bagul far too much, a little Bagul goes a long way. The ghost kids weren't the least bit spooky. HOWEVER it's not all gloom and doom, I actually did enjoy the sequel. I thought James Ransone was a great character to bring back from the first and I thought Shannyn Sossamon did well. If not compared to the first sinister, it's a passable horror movie made better by a very likable lead character. It's flawed for sure and doesn't hold a candle to the first film but still I enjoyed Sinister 2.

      liz noir Yeah I try to focus on the positive with the channel but if I'm going to do some more current stuff blind then I'm going to run into movies I don't like. This wasn't terrible, there were some good moments but overall it was just a quick buck sequel that thinks scary is by making stuff jump out at the camera.

    Nice review.
    Sounds like they fell into some obvious traps. I liked the first Sinister, but when those slow-motion kids appeared they really made the second half weaker that it should have been. A movie focused on those brats sounds like a bad idea.
    And the trend with gorier sequels really get on my nerves. The Final Destination and Saw series turned the gore to such levels it became darkly comic instead of scary. I think the original movies of these franchises were effective partially because they were subtle about it.

      TheHitherto The kids didn't even have the makeup so they just looked like regular kids up until the end. They weren't scary they were just annoying.

    Not surprised personally. I'm another of those disappointed by the first movie's last quarter or so where it feels like the filmmakers almost gave up.
    And the trailer for this one looked reaallly bad...
