  • How we built a 20” x 40” chicken/ poultry yard, rabbit colony, and garden completely enclosed and protected from all angles. This went up very fast and was not difficult to do. Enjoy!
    Enclosures can be purchased here :
    www.amazon.com...
    Remember that we added welded wire for strength and protection and also hurried the wire for security and to anchor and further strengthen the structure

I have one poor chicken left in a bunny hutch/run. lol Glad to see it worked through even the flood...poor bunnies glad you didn't loose any. We have a real problem with hawks and possums and rats...hope it works as well for us but you guys put it up with excellent planning ahead.

    I have several of these big pens and one smaller one and they are PERFECT for the chickens, I honestly don't know what I'd do without these pens. The advice I can add in is to buy better zip ties because the ones that come with it crumbled apart on me after about a year so I had to start replacing them over the Winter but everything else about them is strong & sturdy and I love how they can be put together for a custom setup. I live in Ohio and we have really crazy weather and it held up during any kind of wind rain, snow, ice, etc.. too. GREAT video!

    I was lucky enough to find some "take it apart and haul it off and it's yours FREE" large dog runs like this on CL about 4-5 years ago. Most had "cyclone" fencing, but no roofs. I joined them all together for my chicken runs. I use rolls of that green plastic garden/safety mesh to cover the tops, since we have eagles, owls and hawks in abundance. Some left-over corrugated tin and shade covers (used in gardens) make a few outdoor places for them to stay shaded and more dry.
    Our Texas heat makes rabbits problematic for me, but cuy (guinea pigs) do really well here. I've set up a colony system for them in one of these covered in hardware cloth and chicken wire. Cuy don't dig like rabbits, so it's been a lot easier than keeping them in cages, plus they seem happier and grow better. A large dog igloo (also free off CL) filled with straw and leaves gives them ample shelter during the winter. The chickens and cuy seem to get along fine, as long as the cuy are not small babies that the chickens see as a snack. I can turn them all out together once in a while to keep the different types of weeds down and spread out the fertilizer from each species. I call it "livestock enrichment".
    I really liked your ingenious way to make a door along the interior wall. Well done! Going to have to adapt that idea to my own setup.
    Been subscribed for a while. Makes me happy to see you in my feed again. I hope y'all continue to be healthy and blessed. Even thriving. Times seem to be about to get tougher. Good to see such smiling and joyous young folk.

    For Northerners similar frame structures can be had relatively cheap in spring from failed and damaged car shelters. It's generally cheaper for the person to buy an entire new structure than replace a badly damaged tarp so they just put them up for scrap. Craigslist is your friend.

I’m in the southwest corner of the state and wouldn’t mind driving to get a haul of wheat at those prices, besides,it would give me an excuse to go to Joanns Fabric store 😊The best I’ve found has been 50lbs for around $41. Don’t think I’m looking in the right places.

    Duuuuude This is perfect. I already have one of these for the chickens and want another for the rabbits. Just concerned they will dig out. We are pretty new to rabbits. My daughter just finished an ffa project and we kept the remaining two.
    How are you keeping them from digging out? And do have to separate your male rabbits from the females ever? We live in Texas and was told its best not let them breed during the summer. Also wouldn’t want the incest thing going on once we have babies. Really want to get them out of the pins and able to run around in one of these.

  • @andrewsanders8167
    @andrewsanders8167 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As a trapper that uses alot of cages you are setting up for failure. That welded wire won't even slow a large dog or coyote down. Light chain link would been best and cost close to same. Just because you have not had trouble yet just means nothing has tried

    • @SurvivalHT
      @SurvivalHT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not so. We have watched 80 and 90lb dogs try with all their might and packs of Coyotes come through constantly and nothing has been able to get in. Been a few years and all is well

    • @andrewsanders8167
      @andrewsanders8167 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then mine and other cage makers video footage of coyotes easy getting threw welded wire are all wrong. The only welded wire that holds up is 12 gauge and that is not 100 percent. Dogs not getting in means nothing easy to hold a dog in any cage. Go catch a coyote and pen him in there he will tear out

    • @krevor4095
      @krevor4095 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right? I've been told rabbits can/do dig as much as 23' deep into the ground. I foot of wire might keep the kits in, but not larger ones. And obviously those rabbits have been there awhile.
      I was planning on doing something similar, until I was told about how deep rabbits dig, then cancelled those plans.

    • @SurvivalHT

      Yes. No snakes have gotten in at all ever. Had one Water Moccasin (very poisonous) try his best to get through the wire to the rabbits only to get stuck in it. He couldn’t fit through but his scales snagged so that he couldn’t back out either. So I had to kill him in the wire and get him out but no others have even gotten that far. I have seen snakes by the pens but non have ever gotten in
