    Really not sure about this ram duct.
    The stock design is very good, well sealed and draws air from the high pressure area at the nose via the snorkle already. It's out of the way enough to avoid debris (rocks, salt, bugs, rain etc) wearas the ram duct would definitely suck in more junk to the filter.
    Not a huge deal if you have a filter you can change or clean but with this duct you'd literally have to take the bumper off to change the filter (stock airbox anyway).
    They say the airflow increases at the square of the vehicle speed yet the graph on the site shows a consistent flow inc from low gears low rpm all the way up. So not sure those numbers accurately reflect what's happening when the car is moving.
    If the ecu compensates with lower wastegates duty to target a specific boost your mass airflow will stay the same, possibly colder intake temp and manifold air temps, improved compressor efficiency.
    My temp at the maf is always around ambient anyway. Also I have a slightly larger turbo, I'm seeing around 270 g/s (35+ lb min) at redline wheras their test car (basically stock) is only seeing 27-28 lb min. So I'm already flowing way more are with no temp increase or restrictions that I can see.
    Curious if anyone has some good data can't find any solid dyno numbers or 1/4 mile improvements to really prove a difference.
    Nicely made piece and looks cool for sure.
    Not convinced yet the price is worth the performance or potential issues with a dirty filter and the hastle of the bumper removal.

    I saw good results just changing out the stock grill to a carbon mesh one, and instead of hella horns I got the jdm subaru ones. Also added a perrin radiator shroud and it definitely lowered the temps a bit .

    Looks nice Ron, but I'm not totally sold on the whole "ram air" that makes several bends to a filter, then several more bends to the turbo, etc. I guess in theory it works, to a degree, but I would think low pressure cool air is more ideal. How much "high" pressure air is really making its way to the filter? Maybe ram air on a turbo is lost on me....

    My only issue is if you get a big splash of water on a rainy day from a puddle infront of u from another car infront of u it will suck all that water right in now. Happened to my friend with his Focus RS who had a very similar snorkeler, engine was toast, so in order to prevent all that suction if it were to occur is to drill some vent breather holes somewhere on the factory inlet or this so it won't suck in a wave of water.

    • @ronfromportland

    For anyone watching there is absolutely no need for a a tune after installing this this short air ram, neither will you see much of a power gain with it, its main purpose is to create a smoother/faster path for the air to get to your intake, this modification is pre MAF and is not metered air entering the system, until it passes through your intake into you MAF sensor !!!!

      I doubt more power that can be felt above what he already has installed. What this does (potentially) change is intake air temps. But when compressed in the turbo, all bets are off. A N/A engine is a different story. Smooth, fast flow and superior intercooler cooling is more important than a few degrees of intake air temperature

    Have you gotten a tune after this install? If so how much extra whp did you gain?

      Nope, I didn’t get a retune. There are no power gains with this snorkel.

      From my Facebook group, one member mentioned that we’ll need to get a DAMD grill. Trim plastic around the radiator and drill two holes to make it fit. Not a huge amount of modifications but it will fit…. I’m willing to find out.

    Interesting 🧐 ram air 💨 intake and looks well made. 👍 Air flow and air temperature graphs 📈 on website were intriguing 🤨 as well. Intuitively more cool air is best.
    As it is bolted to the car, with bolts that are only accessible with the front bumper removed and the snorkel seals tight against the OEM intake there is no way to access the pins that hold the front of the OEM intake place. Long story short this snorkel can’t work with an OEM filter box only after market big cold air intakes where you can access the cone filter downstream of the OEM intake. Maybe generation 2 will have a top access panel with gasket.
    Look forward to seeing the WHP and torque gains. My guess 5 to 7 WHP with maybe 🤔 an additional 7 to 10ft•lbs torque.
    I will stick with what I have, Compressive Tuning Smartflow Shroud and maybe add something to the ram air tray to direct air flow better. I am also installing the Cobb Redline Carbon Fiber Intake so the snorkel wouldn’t seal properly.

    Would you need a tune for this, since it will change the fuel trims.

    • @ronfromportland
      @ronfromportland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I addressed this a little bit at the end but basically, according to the Velossa Tech founder, a tune isn’t really required. In order to see the full benefits of the snorkel, a tune is recommended.

    • @ianholmquist8492
      @ianholmquist8492 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's required. Vellosy tech or anyone else doesn't care if you damage your car due to slapping random parts onto it. But you should. (ThE bOx SaiD +10 hOrsEpowEr) mentality is pretty dumb.

    Pretty interested in getting one but I’m scared it won’t fit with my carbon grill since the mesh sits further back and lwrclssgarage front brace. Would you happen to know?

    • @ronfromportland
      @ronfromportland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh dude, I thought about this exact same thing since I was interested in their front brace. I highly doubt there’s enough room with the brace installed since it looks like it would sit right where the snorkel opening is. Hard to say if it’ll touch your grille or not either. There’s about a 2” gap from my grille to the snorkel but I know those carbon fiber grilles sit far back.

    • @danielo22
      @danielo22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ronfromportland Yeah, exactly my thoughts. Would be a killer looking combo with the front brace and snorkel but it’s too expensive of a gamble for me right now.

      Just asked a friend of mine who got the redline carbon intake. He said it sits up higher and is overall bigger than the stock one. I highly doubt it’ll work without additional modification.
