Same, I can understand why they might not have mass appeal in America as the roads are so straight and wide. But in Ireland my edition 30 with manual lsd, g25 660 turbo, clubsport s style weighing in at 1290kg. It beats 99% of cars on the road and on Irish B roads its just amazing. Gti for life ❤

Great choice Evan! I've had my MK7.5 for several years and it's been incredible. I've been tuned since 2k and I'm coming up to 25k miles now with 0 issues. These cars ripp with very little, and whoever wins this is going to be stoked.
Also those paddles should work whenever you touch them if there's a gear available up or down even if you're not in manual mode. If they don't work there's absolutely an issue.
what tune have you been running? I've had my MK7.5 for about 2 years now as well and I've been untuned from 9k-49k, Im n the works of going full bolt on now to go eqt s2

My Mk6 drives better than a brand new 7.5 and I'm not biased. Had a 7.5 owner return it for a MK6 he went for the Golf R good choice but I'm a GTI guy.

I've always said that I'm gonna be driving a manual my whole life and here I am after almost three years of dailying a DSG wouldn't change that for anything else. I absolutely agree that its a best daily transmission under the sun.
Same here, die hard manual guy but with the GTI it was DSG or nothing.
Yeah...the ability to shift with both hands on the wheel while nailing the throttle around a corner adds a different type of fun. Plus, with a manual you ALWAYS have to shift gears. Sitting in slowish traffic or cruising on the interstate, there’s no benefit from having a manual transmission. Manuals are fun, but it’s awesome to have the choice to shift or not to shift.
all automatics NEED to be DCT nowadays. Its crazy. For instance, the Miata.....super fun. In auto its just a complete joke though cus Mazda was like ohh lets put in the same tranny from 10+ years ago! Brilliant idea. Miata with a DCT would be a killer daily driver. I for instance don't want to bang gears every day driving to work, in traffic, etc. If it was my weekend only car, sure.
Guys I wanna buy a mk7 golf gti with my approved 31k auto loan from my bank. But I’m thinking about reliability. But yeap, wanna at least tune it to Stage 1 & just put rims on it with lowering springs or coil overs

Absolutely should have gone with EQT but IE was probably very easy to get sponsored by so to make it logistically easy he went that route. EQT stomps all though

Project A is the best see. It win against EQT racing and many switch over if they got a location near you. Also revo is really good too

The 2 doors are pretty rare.. and have some serious potential. The MQB platform is definitely better then a lot of cars in the same class. DSG trans is also awesome

Mk7s are a great power plant when tuned and taken care of correctly. my good buddy is making 530whp on a Boss 500 kit and E85. thing rips and has been on that kit for 2 years. amazing cars, and i can’t wait to see what happens with this Mk7 build.

Hey evan I have a MK6 GLI (the MK7 is on the MQB platform MK6 is not). I actually did a custom IS38 (GOLF R Turbo) swap in my garage on video! FBO I am at 400 crank! Would love to come on out and help ya get it big turbo swapped for some views and content for your channel! Let me know I am a big VW guy and the swap for your MK7 would be a breeze compared to the custom swaps! Love the car btw!!

Hey, Evan, if you're looking to upgrade the turbo, I would really recommend the EQT vortex or vortex XL! Also, would recommend EQT tuning, as they are the BEST for the MQB platform.
He already bought a IS38 IHI

EQT Tuning is a great company. i have my MK7.5 GTI tuned by them. stock IS20 turbo FBO on 93.

@@trickmasterflex I haven’t experienced any clunky shifts. I drive a manual with the drawl geek short shifter and dkm stage 2 clutch and single mass flywheel. No shifting issues unless it’s my fault so far 😂

I had a mk7 they are amazing. Literally the best daily driver. If it doesn’t have the performance package you’re definitely gonna have to get an LSD in it other wise you won’t grip at all under power. Mine was a manual but it spun tires in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. And IE is premium parts for a GTI. Can’t wait to see the end build.
I have a Dark iron blue 2020 stock GTI Autobahn 6 sp MT with 7k miles and it's a blast to drive to get groceries.

Mk7 GTIs are sick. Here in the Netherlands its an common car because driving a v8 or even v6 is nearly impossible here. So the GTIs are like small hatchbacks with speed and the dsg fart is so satisfying in my ear

Here in Europe the most popular car is the GTI and the tdi version, next is the 320d and there's some M2/M4. They're always tuned with pops and bangs, (and smoke on the tdi), and it's so annoying.
yup americans are so used to really high hp numbers, like a gti is fast here in ireland. its just so weird to think this is a "slow" car in the us. slow to me is a ford fiesta lmao
@@JP_A3 Here in Portugal the most common are 50 - 90hp cars, so a Fiesta would be above average actually. There were a lot of Seat Ibiza TDIs not so long ago, but I haven't seen many lately, fortunately. (well, our minimum wage is around 600€, so go figure...)

I have a 2018 GTI with no tune but full exhaust and intake set up and it’s a beast. Can’t wait to see what y’all do with the big turbo. I suggest Sneekytuned or EQT for tunning.

I will be living alone in few weeks and I will need a new car soon. Golf 7 or 7,5 gti would be amazing. Comfortable, very nice looking, quite spacious for a hatch and very fast when you need it to be.

Just go into sport and use the pedals. Or just start shifting with the pedals it will switch automatically. And change the wheels.
If you wanna have some fun with a front wheel drive. Go get a mazdaspeed 3. That’s as raw as it will get. Especially for the power

I have a APR stage 3 GTI 7.5 autobahn 2018. It definitely unlocks the cars potential it’s a lil rocket ship. Some good tires are a must lol.

The GTI is the car that started the “Hot Hatch” thing here in the states. You made the right decision getting the DSG gearbox. Personally I’d rather have the R but I love them both.

Evan, coming from someone who has a 2dr mk7 GTI DSG stage 2. These cars are loads of fun and can put some impressive numbers down if pro tuned through Cobb . I’m currently running IE performance high torque stage 2 on my car. Glad to see you decided to work with IE. They’re releasing some dope tunes. Go the is38 TrueFlex route with them. You won’t regret it.

I did not know you were this funny and ive been watching since 2014
I paid cash from saving from when I was a kid and flipping cars to buy my dream car a 6spd mk6 gti. Paid 24k when asking 29 was the tier just below leather seats. Heated seats. Plaid. Sunroof. Nav. The works. Put HR ultralows on it, wheels tires. Euro golf r short shifter. Milltek turbo back exhaust, forge intake and diverter valve. Vent mounted/integrated boost gauge. Then decided to get it tuned by apr tuning. Now this was back when they had the crack the ECU and solder a chip in. Long story short it made way more power after going stage 2 with bigger inter cooler and boost piping. But the a holes who tuned it didn’t re seal the ecm with silicone before screwing back together. The ecu sits under the cowl panel and after just under a year of fun with the car water got into the board had all sorts of problems.
Took it to my closest apr certified dealership to find out was a bad ecu. Contacted the company who tuned it. They sent a used one to me. Which these cars have immobilizers they should’ve known that wouldn’t work. So they sent me another ecu. I get a call from the dealer saying they sent a gli ecu and already had flashed the car, bricking the entire car. I asked the company to send me an invoice and part number. It was a brand new GTI ecu. So I hired a lawyer set a court date. My lawyer never showed and they wouldn’t allow a continuance on my behalf. So I got gutted on the stand. Ended up having to pay 2k in labor they had in the car and 30 days to tow it out. Needless to say I didn’t have the money for a whole new ecu. Wiring harness because they destroyed mine. And where they parked it nice had gotten under my fuse panel and made a nice little home thru my firewall into the glovebox. Meanwhile the engine has under 30k miles still brand new at the time 2012. So that at the same time a 5 year relationship ended sent me down a nasty spiral. Car never got fixed. I still have it if anyone is interested. Even shaved the emblem notch and did a baseless grille and resprayed hood. And I leaned into a bad addiction sadly to make myself numb to having everything to nothing so fast. I got help with that but since have struggled with things here and there. And sadly got back into one of my more nasty habits. So to see this content and your daily advice just spoke volumes to me. And I’ll be damn sure to enter to win that beautiful mk7. Just wanted to say thank you brother for the words of wisdomand can’t wait to see the gti content. And pray on my lucky stars it could be mine one day and the money I used for my bad habits is going to go to enter to win.
