Superb video !!! What workmanship. I would love to be able to do all that by hand. I’ve about a dozen wood chisels all blunt and need to master the basics of sharpening them before I even attempt anything like a mortise and tenon joint. Even putting the triangular piece of wood to clamp the cross brace is genius. One of the best videos out there.

Thank you very much! I’m sure you could do it with a little bit of practice! Yeah, if you master that it makes it so much easier. You wouldn’t believe the difference a sharp chisel makes. It sounds silly but a sharp chisel is also a lot less dangerous. I always nearly end up injuring myself using blunt chisels just because of how awkward it makes everything😆 thanks again!😁👍🏼

Brilliant and love the execution. Can I ask (as a noob!) why did you chisel out the surface of the timber for the mortises prior to drilling out the waste with the spade bit, was it to minimise the risk of travel of the drill bit?

Hi, thank you very much! I do appreciate it! It is not something I’ve really done before but my spade bits are a bit blunt and didn’t want to make a mess of the mortices. The mortices went all the way through so they can be seen on the outside and I just wanted to make sure I had a neat square before risking it with the spade bit😁👍🏼
