To anyone thinking the Collector's redemption was too quick, he is:
1, a child learning about death first-hand and 2, a deity experiencing hopelessness. This kid got double traumatized.
It's also quick because season 3 was shortened, hence the rushed feeling that the later episodes had.
Well said. How could an insanely powerful being ever comprehend loss and hopelessness unless they witnessed it? I dont think it was rushed at all. Even WITH the shortening of the show, I felt like this drastic of a change was well-handled.
@@PhantoMace2012an insanely powerful being who is a *child*, and it makes it even sadder. You’re hit with the realization that Belos, a grown *adult*, took advantage of a child, who quite literally didn’t know any better.
It's too quick cause Disney was canceling the show. Luz even called out Disney for it in one of the episodes.

One of the saddest moments was Camila crying. It took so much effort for Amity, giving it her all, to scratch the light glyph into the floor as a puppet. So for Camila to cry so easily as a doll, I can’t imagine how much she was sobbing and screaming for her baby
headcanon: Camilla was able to feel whatever the collector felt(emotionally)/maybe see through their eyes. Which means A: she got to see her only child die right in front of her and she could do NOTHING about it. And B: Camilla is such a trooper for keeping up appearances for the rest of the crew to keep their spirits up. Best mom in fiction.
Something I noticed when she protected Collector. She tried to put up a shield to protect them. That's why her arm was extended, and the reason why she said she didn't think Belos' attack hit her. The unfortunate thing was that despite her best efforts, Belos' magic is parasitic by nature and the slightest of touches was all that was needed...
The rest of her body was also shielding them iirc
@@twist_ending7545 She definitely knew that there was a chance the shield would fail, so it makes sense that she would have interposed herself in a way that'd still protect Collector if it did fail.

Everyone speaks about Luz, but never about Camilla.
She was transformed into a doll.
For everyone that's bad, but they're used to magic, but imagine how Camilla is feeling inside her mind, she must be terrified.
But then she feels Luz's death, and knows her daughter is gone, the one who had disappeared since she spoke with her in the reflection.
The grief and pain she must be in as a mother terrifies me.
Imagine losing someone you love just when you finally got them back in your life.
Wow.
Her death scene was sad, but that shot, the shot of Camila's puppet body staring at the lights, and then zooming in to show the tears, that fucking broke me. That's a mother looking at the essence of her now dead daughter and despite not even being conscious still crying because her daughter is gone
Yeah..And it’s only thanks to Papa Titan that she got her daughter back.
And worst of all, Luz is literally the only remaining family she had left after her husband (outside from the Hexsquad who have their own families on the B.I), so the mere fact that she felt the way she did after losing her husband and though that she was finally alone, or even that she failed as a mother to protect her only daughter really tears you apart...
I don't think there is any worse pain in the world than losing a child, especially after having already lost your partner.

Amity was trying her hardest to move while she was a doll, only moving her finger, and then there’s camila tearing up as a doll. You can instantly notice that camila was having an outbreak.

The part that got me again was the “goodbye, Luz” by papa titan cuz it sounds more like the show is saying goodbye to us.
I realized that that connects to the "thanks to them" title

It's even more heavy when you realize in every season finale, a character who's in great danger always thanks Luz. Eda is in season 1 thanking Luz before she's petrified. King in season 2 thanked Luz for being a big sister to him before the portal exploded. Luz was the only one who never got the chance to thank them before she died. Ofc she does get to thank them in the long run.
Just to make this scene a bit more nightmare inducing, Luz’s head actually cracks off of her body when she’s fully enveloped by the fungus

I think it's damn impressive to make a character's death scene panic-inducing and heart-breaking, even when you know in all likelihood they'll be brought back.
I think it speaks a testament to how much of a great character Luz is.
Look, I knew luz would get revived somehow, but, nothing compares to the dread that I felt during this scene, like, I was in shock, I didn’t expect luz to freaking DIE halfway through the episode
The moment where I first had a mini panic attack over a fictional character.
I was like “DONT YOU DARE MAKING ME SWEAR IN SHOCK ON EASTER!”

When Luz explains to The Collector about how all the pain and destruction that belos caused wasn't The Collectors ( or anyone elses ) fault, she has already understood that it was also not her fault that she helped Belos too.
If I had a nickel everytime the main character's theme is the outro of the show, and said character dies and get scattered into bits before meeting an all powerful being, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Are you also thinking of future Mikey from rise? (At least for the scattering into bits part ;> )

the really herioic thing was about luz is that luz could have let belos hit the collector. the collector was the cause of so many things in luz's life, and no, im not hating on him, he's changing! but he did alot of bad things and luz could have just let him die but she didnt, which proves how good of a hero she really is
What Belos did, to Luz and everyone on the Isles, was FAR worse - and unlike the Collector, he understood what he was doing perfectly and rejected all chances to change for the better. But you're right - Luz is a total sweetheart for being kind to the Collector and helping him redeem himself, and I LOVE her for it 🥰

Belos was what got everyone into this mess anyway. He got what he deserved.
@@MegaFafnir Also, unlike Belos, the Collector was able to realize his errors and he ultimately helped set things right by protecting (exposing himself to the fungus in the process) and later restoring the residents.
Belos remained convinced he was right until the end, blaming everything on the ‘evil’ witches and trying to manipulate Luz one last time before she turned away from him, leaving him to Eda’s, King’s and Raine’s wrath.
HOW DID I FIND YOU HERE
I think one of the reasons this death still impacted me even after watching amphibia's main death scene is that:
Luz still has so much to do before the fight is over. She needed to stop belos, help the puppets, help the remaining hexside students. and of course help the collector.
When Anne died all thats left was to say goodbye to the planters or go back to the human realm.
(I love both scenes tho and both scenes work in their own way)
Another reason I still find this scene sad is the fact that Eda and King watched Luz die in front of them, and right after they just reunited. Yeah, I kind of knew Luz was going to come back, yet this scene still hurt me.
This is such a beautiful soundtrack, it just makes the sacrifice scene so much more emotional.
I like to imagine a timeline where she did die and Eda, king, Raine, and the collector made this song in honor of her :) Eda and Raine are the violins, King is the drumming, and the collector is the bell sounding instrument

For some reason, I feel like this ost could be in a Ghibli film and I love it
The final battle of this show is the most Ghibli thing I’ve ever seen that wasn’t made by Ghibli
The Collector desperately scraping the corruption off of an enraged Eda felt straight out of Howl’s Moving Castle or Spirited Away
I mean this show does kind of feel like Disney’s version of Spirited Away.
The thing that gets to me is how The Collector is still completely oblivious to death and calls out to her like nothing bad happened until he realizes, just like Luz said, people can’t be fixed like some toy if they “break”
When king's dad/mom(?) Said the powers are temporal, I genuily thought Luz was gonna die after the powers are gone
So when the titan's soul came out from Luz, I thought she was gonna dissapear or turn light again. 😭
I also thought that, but if that actually happened I would not be ok

I won’t lie, when I saw luz dissolve from the mold I cried my eyes out so hard that I felt it in my heart!
Fr- the collecter especially made me cry first-
This is the first time I genuinely bawled over a cartoon character. It was so sad watching this. I couldn't keep it together. The owl house was so good, and I hate to see it go. I hope we see more in the future for it! I loved it. The music choices were awesome. Thank you Dana and the owl house crew. You made a masterpiece!
Seeing Camilla's reaction nearly made me bawl my eyes out... even when petrified as a doll, she could sense that her daughter was gone. 😭

This soundtrack brings me an inexplicable feeling, sadness, melancholy, but at the same time it is very comfortable to hear! Too bad the series is over, I want more Dana, please! 😭😭

I started crying as soon as this happened. The music, the everything. It left me in tears to see camilas daughter, dying in front of her. After the ending, I started to play violin. And at this moment, I am practicing the song!

i think what killed me with this song is at the part where the light orbs float into the collectors castle, you can hear the faint whisper of luz saying “Amity…” and soon after that “Mom, I love you…” and the fact you can’t hear it in this video proves my point, oh my god i’m not gonna recover from this 😢😢😢😢
Usually sacrifice music is sad, but this is slightly happy sounding, like its cushioning the blow because it really is the end, it sounds like music that would play at the end of a episode of a show and that HORRIFIED me because I was genuinely worried that was really it for Luz. brilliantly evil work.
The most gut wrenching music is basically when it comes off sounding like it's saying 'Goodbye'

What makes this even more impact, anne's death was taken place before thos episode, so just hurts more

This music is absolutely amazing. It reminded me of some of the ost of games like Journey and Gris or one specific ost of the movie Dragon hunters. Which are some of my absolute favorite ost of all time, now including this one. Truly beautiful

It's my personal belief that she did ACTUALLY die, and if Papa Titan wasn't there when he was, then she'd be out of the game still.

I gotta know, what if that instrument that plays at 0:22? My guesses so far are: Handpan Drum (or UFO Drums depending on what you want to call it), Steel Tongue Drum, and Marimba (not confident in this guess). If anyone knows, please tell me, it sounds different from anything else in the series, and the alternate instrumentation really made this particular track stand out to me during the finale.

I headcanoned the title of this track as "A light in the dark." Aka Luz's Theme.
This is infinitely better than Anne’s fake out nothing death. Anne just says a cringe ass line despite the fact she’s going to die and then disappears and gets brought back by a god that contributes nothing to the story other than needless complications. And she’s placed right back when she died so nothing happens pretty much. Don’t tell me otherwise that this wasn’t them grasping for any sort of solution after writing themselves in a corner.
Meanwhile. Luz puts herself in between Belos and the Collector to protect him from a horrible mistake but telling them that he did the right thing by trying to show kindness and forgiveness. She’s initially in denial over the spell not hitting her. And then she sees it. She sees the spell expand across her entire body and consume her. All while King and Eda are watching the whole thing unfold. And as her essence is scattered, we see the damage that Belos is causing and the despair that washes over everyone as they see Luz’s light scatter across the boiling isles. Eda and King are enraged. Time is allowed to pass as the moment seeps in for the characters including Camila who is crying despite being an inanimate puppet. The Collector is at a loss for words and starts to understand the concept of death and how much it hurts to lose someone you love and apologizes for everything not wanting for things to end like this. But Luz comes back in probably the most refreshing final form design ever conceived. And then they beat Belos’ ass. Also the music yeah that might be a big part as well in terms of cooking up this masterful scene.

that was such an awful way to go too. Your body slowly being consumed, it doesn't hurt until it's too late and you can't scream anymore(I think). All in agonizing slow motion. Looking death in the eyes for way wayy too long, all the while everyone you love is in danger. The sheer hopelessness Luz must have felt in her "last" moments...
I’m surprised that this part didn’t make me cry; I think I was just speechless like King and Eda but they were more scarred than anything else, because they thought Luz may have just died.
Personalmente pienso que la parte de las luces volando por todas las Islas Hirvientes es basicamente una despedida de Luz a todos sus amigos y conocidos. Y tambien creo que indirectamente el Coleccionista la salvo indirectamente permitiendo que una parte de su alma perdurará lo suficiente para llegar al lugare entre muchos lugares.
Personally I think the part about the lights flying all over the Boiling Islands is basically Luz's farewell to all her friends and acquaintances. And I also think that indirectly the Collector indirectly saved her by allowing a part of her soul to endure long enough to reach the place among many places.

spoilers to amphibia:
while the owl house and amphibia did very similar things with the "death of the main character" I believe owl house did it better. Also the owl house would definitely be insane enough to kill off not just a main character but *_THE_* main character
With Amphibia it felt way too rushed. It took a while before Luz was revived, and it had enough time to show you the others suffering due to their loss, and their emotions were genuinally conveyed whereas in Amphibia they just cry, and that works for some people but not really for me. Eda and King were filled with rage and anger, and you could see how they were utterly stunned seeing Luz turn to stone whereas in Amphibia it feels like you could have replaced Anne with that weird mecha frog thing and it would still fit the scene. They don't seem to have any genuine emotion, and its either happy or mad or sad. Sprig begging Anne to stop is the only redeeming quality from her 'death' scene imo, but even then The Owl House just did it so much better for me. You get to see each character react in their own way, whereas during Anne's death the only character who had some originality was Grime, not bawling his eyes out like the others. I guess what i'm trying to say is in The Owl House it feels like effort was put into conveying each individual character's despair, whereas in Amphibia it kinda feels copy and pasted. But Amphibia is still a decent show nonetheless, just not one for me.
