For everyone interested in this kit, this is an exceptional model. As each model builder will have different experiences you are just getting one opinion here. The ICM kits are well worth getting.

Yep definitely. This is just my opinion. I'm not a great modeler so other people would probably find it alot easier and more enjoyable than me.

And for everyone else interested in this model - it's mediocre crap . Buy the old Dragon/Revell kit instead .

Shame about the issues you had, but you battled through it and got a result in the end. Cheers Bob 👍

First thing i noticed - the music wasn't terrible 😃 the number of modlin vids I've watched where the music makes me want to self harm ....🤣 but then i got to the 14 minute mark and had to click mute . Oh well , you nearly got the prize ...😃
I think you did a decent job overall (although I'm wondering if you got round to putting the landing light in to the port wing..😃 ) , a nice paint job too .
I have a real problem with this kit ; i bought it the day it appeared in my local shop and was disappointed within minutes of opening the box . I've got too many 88s, 188s and even 388s - it's my favourite plane after the usual spits'n'stangs everyone loves- so i had high expectations of a modern kit, especially as i have enjoyed ICMs earlier kits .
So why did i hate it ? Before i had clipped a single piece off the sprues i hated the engine fronts devoid of radiator detail and missing intakes ....but they gave us two engines . Great work lads . Eye on the ball, hey ? The exhausts are wrong for this version - they are for the -A4 . The hot air outlets on the upper engine cowls are simplified and in this case wrong for this version .
The cockpit floor is fictitious- the 88 family's floor is prominently stepped and this is very visible through the nose . There are no engine controls - the console to the pilot's left is entirely absent . The pilot's IP is missing details and what details there are throughout the cockpit are a bit soft and ill-defined - radios, oxygen gear, guns, mags, pedals etc are all a bit mushy . Monogram made much better cockpits than this in the 70s and 80s . Hell, Airfix's Mosquito is better ! The only thing i liked was the pilot's seat . The rest is crap .
The canopy's framing is wrong around the rear and all of the small windows were a poor fit . The panel lines on the exterior of the cockpit are dodgy too .
The undercarriage is a vague approximation of the real thing and the wheels in particular are dreadful . The tail wheel assembly is one piece , something that's only barely acceptable in 1/72 , let alone 1/48 . The fuel dump pipe at the base of the tail is missing .
Did i like anything about it compared to the old Dragon/Revell kits ? The wing is nice and thin . The overall construction is reasonably smooth but still has issues , the most annoying for me was the lower fuselage/wing part was slightly wider than the fuselage ; i used plasic card spacers to spread the two sides apart, fixed the gaps with superglue , polished and rescribed the missing detail (which was pretty vague in the first place ).
My wings went on ok, maybe one of us was lucky . My decals were pretty good as well .
I would be curious to know what you think of the old Dragon/Revell 88s ; if you are contemplating one, let me know and I'll talk you through the potential pitfalls (if you like 😃) .

Yeah I might get one of the old revell kits be good to know your opinion on it. I had alot of problems building this kit especially the decals they were just horrible. And your right the music in most videos I hate to be honest and especially in mine. I'm considering not even having music from now on. Just maybe a bit more explaining what I'm doing. But then I get fed up with the sound of my own voice. 😄

Try whistling a happy tune 😃
The Dragon/Revell kits are somewhat maligned in some quarters ; they have a few quirks but build up just fine . The Revell boxings also have the bonus of quality decals - Dragon's are patchy at best .

Did you have any major difficulties put the engines into its places - like I had with that Axis ju88 version, and I did some compromises put the all together.

    • @hobbiefix38
      @hobbiefix38  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes I did. It didn't line up with the slots so it put it all out. Made it hard to fit the whole engine to the wing.

@@hobbiefix38 at the end I just took whole engine away and saw off some important parts and assembled those which needed, as the engine does not show at all. Probably never going to build this one again.

@@anssihyttinen1569 yeah many a time I've had to do that. Sometimes I don't even put parts in that will never be seen. It's a waste of glue. 😄

Die Ruß Streifen auf den Flächen sind zuviel! Nur die Motoren hatten Abgas Streifen.

Planes used to get soot from flak aswell. Not just exhausts.
