I'm a metal head, but man back in the early 2000's, that Home album was on my CD rotation constantly. So good. Love the bluegrass aesthetic. So yeah, that's my one CD I have in my collection that people are like "WTF, did a gf or someone leave this here?!", and I'm like no, man, lets listen to it!
I do tend to get a shocked look when my random play goes from Angel Of Death to this. I don't understand the confusion - it's just brilliant music, right?

Long Time Gone is definitely one of my favorite songs by the Dixie Chicks. It's sad that they aren't as popular as they used to be. I'm still a fan of theirs to this day.
This song and the video looks and sounds like it was made today! I can't believe it was made 18 yrs ago. I love it so much! I remember playing the album so much when it came out. This is one of my favorite songs.
Although I like bluegrass and blues I've never been a huge fan of most country music, Dixie Chicks were one of the very few country artists I could stand and listened to them constantly growing up. Finally got to see them in concert this summer, with them sort of fading out years back I wasn't sure if I'd be able to. Had a blast! Hope they continue to make music and are put back on the radio more as I rarely hear them.
The "country world" started dissing its veteran (still able to perform) artists in the late 70's. The "country world" disliked strong female artists infiltrating their planned milk-toast, cookie-cutter future. We can blame the Clear Channel Radio corporate assholes for reducing the country airwaves to their repetitive non-stop Top 40 and turning a majority of listeners' minds to mush -- like a bad Pavlov's dog experiment.
Written by the excellent songwriter, player and singer Darrell Scott! He also wrote "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" and "A Great Day to Be Alive" among many others. Just love these "Chicks"!
L❤VE all the neutral color combinations with vibrant pops of Western-Spanish colors in this video! I've always admired the artistry and fashion in this video! Whoever made this video really created a masterpiece music video
Facebook posts about dropping "Dixie" and staying "The Chicks" finally got me to watch this great video -- and "March March," which is terrific and timely. Hope they'll be a long time back. :-)
But then they don't exist anymore. For a group that was open to being offensive to specific groups they decided their name was too offensive, but they still wanted to keep everything they got with that name ...

I would absolutely love them to, and I think they need more appreciation for just how great they were. Marty and Emily, I've heard, are willing to, but Natalie feels reluctant to because of what happened. I would love to get new music from them because Natalie has a STELLAR voice, all three of them know how to harmonize together so well, and each of them plays at least 3 or 4 instruments, they're amazing musicians. Not to mention their songs were great, and at the time, they were the biggest, most popular, and most successful girl group, not just in country but just in general. Love them to this day.
I'm hip-hop and rap all day, and I listen to most genres of music 🎶. I even like country. It's an different perspective. And I do love the Dixie Chicks even though they changed their name to "the chicks".
Which makes sense as the third verse seems is more than a bit of an insult about the state of country musics when it was written "We listen to the radio to hear what's cookin' But the music ain't got no soul Now they sound tired but they don't sound Haggard (Merle Haggard) They've got money but they don't have Cash (Johnny Cash) They got Junior but they don't have Hank (Hank Williams Sr.) I think, I think, I think, the rest is A long time gone No, I ain't hit the roof since I don't know when Long time gone, and it ain't coming back I said a long time gone No, I ain't honked the horn since I don't know when Long time gone, and it ain't coming back again" The song was written by bluegrass musician Darrell Scott, originally recorded on Scott's 2000 album two years before The Chicks version was released.
This song always take me back to central Kentucky where i grew up. I remember growing up seeing fields and fields filled with burly tobacco. Now they aren't. LOL! I love when people demonstrate their rabid hatred of GWB on the internet. (Especially since he hasn't been in office for YEARS.) Thanks for demonstrating the true hatred of hypocritical "tolerant" liberals!
Yes ica Bush/Cheney/Haliburton haven't been in office for years but the effects and loss of life are still with us today. IRAQ, heard of it? So as much criticism as possible for this legacy is very much earned. I like to call it "a remembrance" so people will be continually reminded of why presidential historians rank Bush as one of our worst presidents...ever! The people who died, conservative and progressive alike spilled red blood so your bating doesn't serve any good purpose. No one should tolerate being lied too on this level. Thats what this war was, is and will continue to be, a lie. We all know it...or should. LOL that!
Jolino Beserra "Bush/Cheney/Haliburton haven't been in office for years but the effects and loss of life are still with us today. " But you're a hate filled liberal, so you're going to still blame them for things they never did. Right? LOL!
Don't have to. There's more than enough things that they did do, including exploiting this nation's grief and anger over 9/11 to get us mired into the Middle East for over a decade (there was total national support for taking on the Taliban in Afghanistan for sheltering al Qaeda) based on false pretenses, as well as squandering a budget surplus they inherited by running a war off the budget, and, by their hatred of regulation and their buddies in the financial industry, let the housing bubble develop that nearly took the entire economy with it when it burst.

Lyrics
Daddy sits on the front porch swinging
Looking out on a vacant field
Used to be filled with burley t'bacca
Now he knows it never will
My brother found work in Indiana
Sister's a nurse at the old folks home
Mama's still cooking too much for supper
And me, I've been a long time gone
Been a long time gone
No, I ain't hoed a row since I don't know when
Long time gone, and it ain't coming back again
Delia plays that ol' church piano
Sittin' out on her daddy's farm
She always thought that we'd be together
Lord, I never meant to do her harm
Said she could hear me singin' in the choir
Me, I heard another song
I caught wind and hit the road runnin'
And Lord, I've been a long time gone
Been a long time gone
Lord, I ain't had a prayer since I don't know when
Long time gone, and it ain't comin' back again
Now me, I went to Nashville
Tryin' to beat the big deal
Playin' down on Broadway
Gettin' there the hard way
Living from a tip jar
Sleeping in my car
Hocking my guitar
Yeah, I'm gonna be a star
Now, me and Delia singing every Sunday
Watching the children and the garden grow
We listen to the radio to hear what's cookin'
But the music ain't got no soul
Now they sound tired but they don't sound Haggard
They've got money but they don't have Cash
They got Junior but they don't have Hank
I think, I think, I think, the rest is
A long time gone
No, I ain't hit the roof since I don't know when
Long time gone, and it ain't coming back
I said a long time gone
No, I ain't honked the horn since I don't know when
Long time gone, and it ain't coming back again
I said a long time, long time, long time gone
Well, it's been a long time
Long time, long time, long time gone
Oh, it's been a long time gone
Long time, long time, long time gone
Yeah, yeah

Yes ica Bush/Cheney/Haliburton haven't been in office for years but the effects and loss of life are still with us today. IRAQ, heard of it? So as much criticism as possible for this legacy is very much earned. I like to call it "a remembrance" so people will be continually reminded of why presidential historians rank Bush as one of our worst presidents...ever! The people who died, conservative and progressive alike spilled red blood so your bating doesn't serve any good purpose. No one should tolerate being lied too on this level. Thats what this war was, is and will continue to be, a lie. We all know it...or should. LOL that!

But you're a hate filled liberal, so you're going to still blame them for things they never did. Right?
