Use gravel along porch front so the dirt won’t spatter as badly on white boards🙂You can still plant your flowers, grasses, etc. further out away from that👍🏻Everything looks great❤
Abby, I was looking at the little triangle gap between your porch and the bay window. Maybe a built in bench to fit or use it as a potted plant shelf?❤ Lovely porch!
The posts are split. Maybe fill with caulking? I thought you were going to white vinyl siding the outside? Be nice to have that done before winter. Looks like alot of repair has to take place. I painted my posts and regret it because it's more maintenance. I see other homes like mine that left theirs wood and it has aged rustic.
Abby, I highly recommend you fill all the cracks in your porch roof support columns with a latex caulking. It will keep the moisture, ice, and bugs from penetrating the wood.
Having rain gutters will also help to prevents the water splashing back up onto your house, plus pull the water away from your foundation. The porch posts look great!
Absolutely Abby !! Please be sure to fill all the cracks in the support columns. You don't want ants, mice or any other bugs from nesting in there !! Plus it will help preserve the columns, too !!
Yes a painter once told me that when he was doing my house. Also he said it saves having to clean them at the end of the day - they stay ‘fresh’ over night if stored appropriately
Oh, my.....at the progress you and Jay have made! (and your other helper...I can't think of his name). It's going to be nice when you can sit on the porch with a cup of coffee and admire all of your hard work. May God protect you and Jay as you continue renovating!
I have watch your channel since the beginning and continue to be amazed by the progress on the house also in your skills. Jay is a wonder…such a patient, laid back guy with a wealth of knowledge and skill. Haven’t heard mention of Smoke Alarms. Having lost a home to fire, I can’t imagine living without them!
Abby, take a plastic bag that is big enough to fit the brush part of the paint brush, poke a hole in the bottom and put the handle of the brush through the hole, then you can have the bag protecting your hand/arm while you paint, and when you're done or pausing, you can pull the bag around the brush part and close it to preserve the brush when you don't have time to clean it right away. Should keep for at least a day or two that way. :) Love how everything is coming together by the way!! And those kittens are adorable!!
What a difference the white paint is making on the front of your house! You’re taking it from a sad house to a brilliantly happy house!! Great job, Abby!! We can just imagine the finished exterior. You’re making wonderful choices, kiddo👍👍👍 She shines against the lush green surrounding❤❤❤
Thanks for working outside! I’m working outside as well on a back yard renovation. Taking a break waiting on wood delivery and can’t go inside because the couch will call me. 😆
There seems to be a lot of traffic on the road, I really hope your kittens will be safe. Farmer Tyler's Ranch have just lost a young dogs in a traffic accident, so very sad. ❤❤ Best wishes from England UK 🇬🇧
@@caroledwards3465 - YES, that was very sad when we knew that Farmer Tyler had lost their beautiful, bright and intelligent German Shepherd due to some traffic accident !! 😢
I just have to say it’s changes like these that really begin to pull the entire house together. Please do not stop making these wonderful videos of you and Jay in and out of the house.
Gutters and gravel will help keep it all clean! The stain will pull it all together!the stain color of your doors for porch floor would be beautiful and cohesive….but it’s your dream house!
I was under the impression that because of the deep snow fall in the winter that they don't use guttering as the weight of it would bring the gutter down, I might be wrong? Best wishes from England UK 🇬🇧
I know you are going to put siding on the house but I Think throwing a quick coat of white paint on the present siding would just make it look so good 😊
Being a proud home owner here in CA, I know that your home renovation has not been cheap !! I salute you as you do the renovation and do an excellent job. No skimping - and that's why you are having such an amazing job !! A gorgeous job, Abby !!
Just a suggestio, Abby, I would take some of the white paint an cover up the bad spots on the front of the house by that beautiful front door & under the bay windows for now til ya get ready to put on the siding. just for now anyway! The house is looking "AMAZING" inside & out!! God Bless A Drill & Dream
The white pillers look great! And the apron! 😊 You & Jay really have developed a way of working so well together! You guys have done SO MUCH!!! 🤯 wow!! You're going to love your porch!! 💕
Cool to see paint on the front porch post & bottom skirt boards. Surely brighten up the front of the house I must say. Glad to hear you're going to put up railings on the porch. Love the transformation it will bring your tiny house. Also stain chose for the flooring should turn out well with the exterior doors color. Well, I'm looking forward seeing the finish porch Abby. 😊
Abby, I am as pumped as you are! Love it. Such great progress. You have become a pro in so many areas of renovation, thanks to Jay and your hard work. I am so proud of Jim's daghter. And you are a natural in front of a camera! I hope I am right in assuming the tractor has been out under cover? That would make me so happy. 😄😄😄😄
my brain woulda made me paint the front wall on the house as well so I could see the over all picture better🤷. Great job. looks good always love watch'in thank for share'in... God bless
You are so inspiring as far as my taking on home improvements smaller projects than yours but they will change the way I feel and live in my 1950's era home. Thank you, Abby! Kittens are adorable and Jay you are a rockstar we are all learning from a master!!
I’m painting sheds at the moment I’ve been wearing disposable rubber gloves, at the end of the day I hold the paintbrush in my palm and pull the glove over the top of the bristles. After pulling the second glove over I tie the fingers tight around the brush. This has saved cleaning the brush, it has also kept the brush moist on occasion for a couple of days till I got back to the job in hand.
Abby, everything that you and Jay do has made the house look great!! It is all coming together. I wanted to tell you about another young lady around you age that is working on her fixer upper. Her name is Tia Weston. She bought her fixer upper for $1:00. I don't know if she has a Jay or not to help her. I sure hope that she does. I am thrilled to be able to watch two young ladies getting to make their dream come true. I look forward to every Tuesday and, Saturday to see, what the latest thing that you are working on. Keep up the good work and, God bless!!
The painting of the front and pillars does make a great impression of cohesiveness with the house and porch. Can not wait to see it with the railing up. A suggestion to think over is what about a border of gravel between the from of the porch and the flower beds. That way when the snow and rains come it will help lessen the chance of wood rotting on the porch skirting. With living in the "north country" this would also help with moisture seeping into the ground and causing the soil to wash away or onto the wood. The kitties look like they are so happy to be at home, out and about and around you both as you paint. They are living the good life and are a great addition to your updates on the progress of your home. They are so cute and really are attention seekers. 😊. Keep up the good work and stay warm this week as the cool evenings begin and the frosty night come. Until next time ✌💖🕯
It looks great!!!!!!! Made it look so much bigger. I cannot wait to see the porch stain and the house painted. n The garden in but I guess I have to. Shucks. Looks so good, you and Jay are the best! Peace!
Just touching up the spots where the old oil tank was, and a few boards that are at the bottom of the bay window. If those were painted it would look better
Abby your kittens are so cute. Just wanted to remind you to be sure you see them before you start you’re car. Because they love to climb up in the engine when it’s cold outside. I know that it gets colder here you live than here in the south. Love the way you house is coming together.
Abby think about, using a drop cloth, anything, old bag, old shower curtain. some cardboard..etc....then there is no need to sand off spots. Gloss can wash off. Even a spackling too for the straight edges.
Abby get a FoamPro paint spout available atAce and most Big box stores or online. Used one for years. It makes pouring paint out of the can with no mess.
Hope you can put some siding up this year to protect your addition. The wrap is ok but that can degrade over time. You two must be so proud of your work so far.❤🎉😊
Hi Abby, Aww it looks gorgeous! Yeah rocks or mulch will have to be put in front or you will be so aggravated every time it rains, ask me how I know 🥺. Even mulch is not to promising but it’s better than dirt. Good job Jay and Abby girl! ❤
I hope you'll paint the underside of the porch roof 'haint blue'. It's pale blue like the sky and is supposed to keep evil spirits away. Also keeps birds and insects from building nests. Would brighten and reflect light better too. The posts look great!
It is looking more like your inspiration photo every day! I admire your work ethic (and Jay’s, of course) You are going to love living there! It’s getting closer! 😊

Good idea
Put landscape faric down frist so weeds do grow ibn flower beds .
Option: If you want it still a little more decorative use river rock.
Abby, I was looking at the little triangle gap between your porch and the bay window. Maybe a built in bench to fit or use it as a potted plant shelf?❤ Lovely porch!

Put some landscaping gravel down around the porch to help keep dirt from splattering
Abby might suggest caulking around the base of your posts? The trim mitered corners and where they gone the post just to help shed water
Abby,
I highly recommend you fill all the cracks in your porch roof support columns with a latex caulking. It will keep the moisture, ice, and bugs from penetrating the wood.
I was thinking the very same thing.
Having rain gutters will also help to prevents the water splashing back up onto your house, plus pull the water away from your foundation.

Absolutely Abby !! Please be sure to fill all the cracks in the support columns. You don't want ants, mice or any other bugs from nesting in there !! Plus it will help preserve the columns, too !!
You are going to need a second coat on the posts so just use a white latex caulk before you apply that.
I’ve used Bondo to fill in the cracks then sand down. Problem solved.
When I'm painting and get interrupted, I put my paintbrushes and rollers inside a Ziploc bag. It has saved a lot of brushes.
I do the same ….
My mom did that but put them in the refrigerator. LOL.
Great idea!!
