In this video I show you how a kindle paperwhite works, how I have mine set up, how to add things to your library with kindle unlimited, a comparison between the kindle paperwhite 2018 version & the kindle paperwhite 2022 version, what it looks like to read manga on a kindle, and my honest thoughts on whether or not I think an upgrade (our first time purchasing a kindle paperwhite 11th generation) is worth it or not.

i was so concerned that i would miss the feeling of an actual book but i feel the same way. i actually find myself reading WAY more and even more into the story.

I was humbled by somebody saying: “if the thrill of turning a paper page is such a crucial aspect in your life, perhaps whether or not to get a kindle should be the least of your concerns.” 😅
for me, it's because i can read in so many different positions! like with a kindle I can read curled up and under blankets, but I can't do that with a paper book

Kindles are great for dyslexia and irlen syndrome too, they have the open dyslexic font and a reading ruler. Both of these things allow me to read in every light setting without seeing rivers or a haloing effect on the words I’m reading

This was super helpful! I actually ordered a new Kindle during Prime Day (and am trading in my old 2018 Paperwhite) because I hated the lag on the old one and I think that really kept me from using it! me and my mom have been looking into getting kindles and this video is a lifesaver :')
while i do love the feeling of physical books, i realized that i simply read more on my electronic devices. it's a little bit more cumbersome for me to take out a book on the subway, read, set a bookmark, close it, put it back in my bag, etc etc, instead of simply sliding my phone out of my pocket and getting a few chapters in. i find myself reading less often when i carry physical books around

I have the Kobo Clara 2E. This thing changed my life. I am reading much more than I ever did. I have 41 books in my wishlist. Now it's just a matter of finding the time to read them. I am in love with my e-reader. I love the dictionnary functionality to learn new words. The best 150 euros ever spent !!!!
I’ve heard a kobo is great as well! Ereaders rlly change the reading game :) I also love the dictionary feature!
I love Kobo too. Even an older model from 2018 is pretty snappy as well.
I absolutely love my Kindle Paperwhite and I have decorated the back with stickers and have a popsocket. I'm definitely a kindle girl 💕🙂

@@Moonart7758 I have the 2019 regular basic( not paperwhite version) that I got almost 2 years ago that I am looking to upgrade to the new paperwhite. The only reason I’m upgrading is because of my eyes & that I did use it everyday afterall. That and the battery doesn’t last as long but I still go a week and a half between charges. I got the cheapest one I could afford at the time first just to make sure I’d actually use it everyday and it’d be worth the investment. So I want the warmth/dark feature (my eyes are bad) the paperwhite has. My old does lag quite a bit, but I just add it to my kindle unlimited library on my phone so it will automatically add to my kindle. I was going to get the upgraded basic kindle but decided on the paperwhite bc I use my kindle everyday & my basic 2019 is pretty similar to the new basic it just only has backlight feature. The new one is faster and has better battery. I say the paperwhite is worth the investment bc I’ve been saving up to get it (I hope it goes on sale black friday/cyber monday). However the new basic looks really nice and its only 99$ and it was recently updated to have the dark feature also. I think going for the new basic vs paperwhite 2018 may be the move since the basic was recently updated. There may also be refurbished new paperwhites that are cheaper on amazon
Yeah I like the smaller model. I would enjoy the bigger screen for manga though

I’ve been debating between this, and the oasis. Your pov was informative, and is making me consider between the two; although I feel I’d need more gigabytes. For me with this device I want to have the best amount of storage/capability in mind. As with most tech I’ve had in the past didn’t last long in memory, and I want the best bang for my bucks as I don’t want to get another one for at least 8 years; which is a lot of books over time. This is also understandable given I’m a uni student, but also similar to you I’d like to have a digital copy; as well as a physical hard cover copy. So that I have variability. So your thoughts helped a lot, and I’m a new subscriber!!!
100% go the oasis route. The physical buttons are the best (the voyage had buttons on the side and then nothing until the oasis!) and honestly it’s more impactful than you might expect. The fingerprints on the screen from page turning drive me batty. The oasis can Bluetooth audio books not sure about the paper white. I think the oasis has a better battery life as well. Larger screen and it’s easier to hold with the larger side panel with the buttons. I pick my oasis over my old paperwhite any day and it has nothing to do with lag. The oasis is top tier and worth the money hands down

I hear you. I have the Kindle Paperwhite Signature edition (the 2022 one with 32gb storage and no ads)….and I love it, it’s truly lightning-fast - and also because after ages you can finally organize books by collections (which is a new late-2022 feature on the Kindle devices). 💖 I had the 2018 model too, but I sold it because I didn’t use it much….probably exactly because it was sooo slow I always ended up reading on the Kindle app on my iPad.
Instead I don’t like Kindle Unlimited - since cancelling your Kindle Unlimited subscription cancels all the books you read with it, any book gotten through wouldn’t feel really “mine” to me; plus, I love re-reading my books whenever I want and if that need happened after I deleted (for whatever reason) my K.U. subscription I’d have to buy the book again. That’s why I prefer paying the one-time price for every book (all of which are romance LOL) I want to read….which given the super cheap prices most of them have is still incredibly convenient and affordable.
I also don’t like reading mangas on Kindle very much - which I use mainly for books - and prefer using my iPad for that because you can see the colored pages.
Question: if you purchase a book, can it be stored on the cloud or is the cloud actually KU?? I agree with having a book that is “mine”.
@@3n1asl2 Sorry, but what’s KU? 😅 In any case all the Kindle e-books you buy are automatically stored on Amaz0n’s own cloud, meaning their servers, and linked to your account (via the record of the purchase…be that the single e-book’s or the Unlimited subscription), allowing for their download on any device.

I’m very much concerned about the lags that i have to wait while it loaded (i feel like I’m wasting small of my time away while waiting). I’m reconsidering my choices because of low budget but yah please enlighten this new e-book reader
@@Moonart7758I have a Kindle Paperwhite from 2012 that I use ALL the time and it hasn’t given me any issues in over 10 years of using it. It does take a moment longer to display things (more so on the Home Screen when it’s trying to load book titles, it’s a faster when it’s just page turning). But it’s just a moment longer. I’m only looking to upgrade as a nice-to-have and so I can pass my current Kindle down to one of my kids (even though this Kindle is older than they are, it still works great! 😂).

I currently read on my kindle fire, which is fine but its heavy and i find that when i want to read, i find myself playing games instead. I'm obsessed with the green color and i don't have to worry about mixing it up with my moms kindle.
That’s one of the reasons why I didn’t get a kindle fire! I also didn’t want a screen with blue light and wanted a device to give my eyes a break :)

I have my Kindle from 2015 too! Still like new lol. I want a newer version but I don't think it's that big of a difference for me to get it.
I have the 2022 version after having my mums old one since I was 10 and it broke down after 7 years so that's why I got the 2022 version for Christmas and omg I read every new book that comes out and if I don't like it then I won't buy the physical copy but I mainly use it for big books like haunting and hunting adeline they are thick and big

Yes! They didn’t have them for the initial 2022 but colors came out recently. Im curious if they’ll come out with a pink one bc that’s a color they had for the 2018 release

They originally released the basic 2022 Kindle with denim and black, but in the last month or 2 they released denim and agave green for the PW, unfortunately it’s not available in any other countries but USA.
i didnt know they released coloured kindles in bigger size. I have the old small one is blueish green, and i wanted the bigger in pink size.. very sad they didnt release a pink version
Yes! I’m sad they didn’t release a pink version too :( also sad it took them SO long to release colors in the bigger size bc they were so popular with the smaller one!
@@xojazzle completely agree. I wanted to get a bigger one last year, despite my 2018 model (which I bought in 2021) working fine. But I didn’t want just a plain black one, no. I guess I will wait until the next model comes out in like 2025 😂
I would have like to see how you hold your Kindle with that rounded thing on the back. I’ve seen people with that on their phone and I think it may be a better idea with an errader.
Is the basic kindle paper white 2022 the same size as the kindel 7th gen ? I currently have it and there is NOTHING wrong and I love the fact that it’s so small, but I definitely want dark mode.

I have the same Sage Green Paperwhite 2018! Do you prefer the bigger screen of the 2022? I kind of want a bigger screen but also a bit worried that it would be too big compared to the portability of the 2018. Would love to hear your thoughts! :)
I actually do prefer the bigger screen! It’s really nice to use compared to the 2018 version!
The 6.8” PW is actually a 2021 model, and the 2022 6” is significantly smaller, I seen at the shop the other day but in this video, because it’s a 2018 PW, despite it being 6” it doesn’t look as small as the newer one. I think with the newer ones they don’t have as much black around the sides. I highly recommend upgrading not necessarily for the size but the warm light feature, truly a game changer. The new PW has all the features of the Oasis minus the physical buttons.

Dang. Even the new kindle took forever to scroll and change pages. That lag would drive me crazy. Maybe I'll just stick to my kindle app on my phone, it's smaller but wow. I couldn't handle a device that laggy.
Honestly it's really not that bad, and it's much easier to deal with when you know that the reason it's slow is to extend the battery life
hi !! apart from the lag on the screen, what other downsides are there with kindle 2018? i’m sooo close to buying one since it’ll be my first and especiallyyy since they’re more budget friendly for me right now but at the same time i need reassurance & i’d like to be knowledgeable with what i’m getting.
It doesn't have warm light but it does have dark mode. Apart from that, the 2018 PW works fine.

I used to be a physical reader only gal too but once I got a Kindle it’s truly a game changer, you even read faster on a Kindle, don’t ask me how but you’ll hear plenty of people saying they read so much more on a Kindle.
i swore i was too. and finally got one knowing that if i hated it i could return it. let’s just say i haven’t thought twice about returning it

It's definitely strange. My girlfriend was 100% like that and swore she only likes physical books. Got her a Paperwhite and she's been reading more than before. I've been thinking of picking one up for myself. Give it a go at least!

I want a kindle badly, but I can’t justify the purchase when i already have an ipad (fairly new) and the books app is good enough.
I kinda felt the same way bc I own an iPad & HATED reading on it. but I bit the bullet when the kindle was on sale and purchased it and there’s a few reasons why I enjoy it more than my iPad! My eyes strain when I read on my iPad, but that isn’t the case w the kindle bc there’s no blue light! I also wasn’t a huge fan of the size of my iPad, but a kindle is smaller and lighter so it’s easier to just bring with you everywhere or read like laying down or something. & lastly I like having a designated place for all my books and the storage on my iPad isn’t hurt by books 😁
Depends how much you read. You won’t get the eink, warm light and battery life on an iPad like on a Kindle.
I really want a kindle but it’s pretty expensive and I’m scared that after spending so much money i also have to pay for most of the books and that the free options are just a few

That’s a good idea! I don’t rlly ever bring mine anywhere where I would need the waterproof feature. Maybe the pool but even then, it’s just on a bench tanning 🤣
I was tempted the other day as the 2022 6” looks so cute 😍 it seems smaller than the 2018 PW even though they’re both 6”. I’d love to see a side by side pic of the 2, but I couldn’t let go of the Warm light 😊

i bought a basic 2022 kindle in blue jeans colour, and so far it suck on kindle unlimited because its jammed. but i dont care that much cause i downloaded books and put it inside my library without buying.

Don’t know if that’s the case, but maybe your old kindle have full or almost full memory and that’s why is so slow. I compared turning pages on my 7th gen and it was so much faster that your old one, but mine is doesn’t have even half the memory taken.
Unfortunately my kindle wasn’t almost full memory and idk what was wrong with it. But I did have it for quite a few years

how do u upload other books that aren’t on the kindle shop ( like fan fics / pirated books ) i tried using the usbc cord and sending the epubs from my laptop but it took so long…
You can convert epubs to mobi files (the file it takes to go upload to kindles) using a platform called “calibre” I believe!

I have a kindle! And honestly it’s not just being lazy it’s wanting to bring a small device with LOADS of books instead of a big chunky book that’s heavy. Personally it’s just more practical!

kindle unlimited is only worth it if you read 2 or more books a month im a slow reader soooo
I would get it for a month, download like as many books as possible in that month then put the kindle on airplane mode or turn off the Wi-Fi .
