Thanks for posting these videos. As a beginning Go player I'm constantly impressed and humbled by how much time and effort more experienced players have gone to in order to provide free teaching materials for folks like me. Us newbies really appreciate it!
Just wanted to say thanks. I previously tried to find tutorials on go and found it difficult to find videos like these. With alpha go in the news I gave it another attempt and found your channel. looking forward to learning from you :)
Thanks a lot. There have been situations that happened with me like in 4:55 where I played at a vital point of the opponents and they captured my stone after some moves because I was not paying attention and then I thought I couldn't do anything there anymore. Now I know that I was wrong.
Hey SundayGoLessons. I really appreciate the time you are investing to teach us more about Go :) One questions im still pondering is at 9:30 in your video, the stones white would have to play to capture blacks groups at the end would actually reduce whites space by one point per group. Does white still get those two points if he doesn't play those moves in the end and if so, then why?
Hello, You are absolutely right that if white has to play to capture those stones then his territory reduces by one. But think about it. Black has to make alternating moves as well! And where would black play if he wants the game to continue? Either: 1. Pass (by handing a stone to white increasing white's prisoner count) 2. Play within his own territory (ergo losing a territory point himself) 3. Play within white's territory (ergo handing white a prisoner) The point to remember is that in Go, final scores can vary depending on whether you use Territory Scoring (excludes walls but includes prisoners) or Area Scoring (includes walls); but the *differences* between white and black should be the same (except in very very rare cases). See: senseis.xmp.net/?Scoring Please play out the game and review the scoring to convince yourself that the *difference* in scores will be the same regardless of whether white puts down stones to capture the dead black stones or they both pass. I am also very new to Go (just been playing a month) so I request experienced players to correct or add on to my understanding. Hope this helped and I wish you the best in your learning adventure!
At 2:55 If the game would end right there and then, like if both players passes.. would black get the points for its territory? Or would black become prisoners by white? Confused beginner here
So you shouldn't look at these like games, you should just see them as like...snapshots or situations. The purpose is to show when you can capture stones and under what circumstances, not a full game.
While I'm a bit more advanced then at least the first few of these... wondering why the Playlist isn't in numerical order? Is the playlist order the preferred watching order, or just a rather small error. Anyhow, look forward to getting to where my progress is sort of stuck at (though not having people to play with leads to a lot of that... and I know I could try online... just chicken... lol).
Q: When you played the 8-9 games a day, did you only play with a bot or a real person? or even just with yourself? I have already seen more of your videos, and I really like them so thank you very much for making them ^^ They are really motivating me to learn more and practice

I had problem knowing when the game ends - your tutorial helps. Thanks!
What is the software tool Jonathon is using to manipulate the Go board?
Perfect, just what I needed, thank you!

Hey, the videos are out of order in your playlist. This is video one in the series, but is in the third position in the playlist.
