8:27. Gosh, even though it ended with an error that point is amazing. The alternative camera angle really showed off the intensity and the footwork of both girls.
Steffi clearly not at her best. She struggle with her back pain in that tournament & lost in final to ASV. Then ASV also beat her in US open final. 1994 was strange year for Steffi, despite playing as good as ever in first half, she literally struggle in second half of 1994.
@GottdieEhre of course I agree. When I actually started following tennis to begin with, she was going through that inevitable 1990 slump after having a Target on her back for several years and after capriati and seles were starting to make a name, which was another interesting phase of her career, but perhaps difficult to watch if you were a huge fan. I got on board the Steffi train in about 1993 I think.
Graf's superior athleticism always exposed Mary's lesser mobility. They were matched in the serve and forehand dept. Graf had too much variety in the end.
Don’t blame Mary for moonball 😅. In fact, moonball was a very effective tactic against Steffi when she was not at her best. Look how Arantxa scored some wins when facing Steffi between 91-94.

Including the variety of that beautiful heavy slice backhand.
Love the camera angle of this match
Good match. They both had nice style.

Yep....remember that well ......then surprise in 95 and 96
Even Steffi was not a machine, but a wonderful person! ❤

OMG , the other players weren’t always at their best either.

I started following Steffi after Wimbledon 1991. I thought she was a very graceful and athletic player.
Steffi with the pigtail is so beautiful.
After losing very badly Steffi graf at the french open semifinals Steffi got her revenge and it was sweet 🧁🧁

What a fun match to watch!
When tobacco cies were sponsoring tennis tournaments lol! 🚬😗

Mental toughness wins 22 Grand slams...even when you are not your best...

@JacquesHsu yeah I agree, thanks for pointing it out ☺️
Moonball Mary...
And the moving while returning serve….trying to disrupt her.
