Kyle Peebles, Panmure was where they sent Ben Hogan on his only visit to The Open Championship. He came to practise at Carnoustie, but was sent away, as it was only for members as the Pros had their week during the Open! He fell in love and made some suggestions to alter the course. All of these were taken up! The crest is an upside down scallop shell. The oil company, Shell wrote to Panmure telling them the scallop shell symbol was patented, and they had to remove it or face a lawsuit. Panmure wrote back saying that they had been granted it by the Earl of Monifeith, several hundred years before, so could the Oil company change their emblem.
It is a great place and I am well aware of the history. I went to Scotland 9 years ago and was fortunate enough to tee it up at Panmure and it was my second favorite course I played that trip, next to The Old Course. The beauty of Panmure took my breath away and the golf kept my attention with an incredible variety of holes and shots. I hope to get back to Scotland one day I will certainly be back to Panmure.
Best thing about Scotish golf, even the small courses you've never heard of are absolutely class. They're in amazing condition. It's like it's a matter of national pride for the greens keepers to present their course to the best it can be!
We played Montrose GC in 2016 and Alan was the starter. He was every bit as enthusiastic then about new visitors to the course, a true gentleman. Great videos.
Red Arrows was a great bit to put in, very cool! Love this episode, fantastic! I am Scottish living in USA and I could not stop laughing for real, as they would say in Scotland "Pure Kwality Man!". The GMC comment made me howl, brilliant. Yes you can get a GM vehicle in Scotland if you want one. Get you an old Vauxhall! If you really want to look cool get a 1970's Ford Capri Ghia 2.0 litre. Thanks to everyone involved for supporting VisitScotland! Respect.
loved this series! Erik, Colt, Stuart, Hafer, Matt Galloway, Finchy and not least the editing by Thomas have produced what is unquestionably my favourite playlist of golf videos on TH-cam. Well played team!
I am glad that some of the spirit of Scottish golf comes across on your vlogs. Above all, golf in Scotland is an "Everyman's" game and very few courses are truly exclusive. Golf is a great leveller!
i know Im asking the wrong place but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Rylan Cody Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm in the hacking process atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
As a Scotsman now living in California, I was utterly and wonderfully shocked when you showed up at Dondonald Links. I used to caddy on that course, one of my favorites. Great channel!
I turn 50 in 2029, so I'm beginning to plan my bucket list Scottish golf trip, but I want to try to play a bunch of off the path courses such as this. Any other recommendations?
Your view on golf videos is superb. The first Random golf video I have watched. Could be the slant for Scottish tourism but a lot of fun was had by you guys.
Enjoyed EVERY ONE of these so much... With all the muck now on this website, it's refreshing getting really solid "longform" (bit of an eye roll here but 15 minutes is now long) content. Thanks Eric & Team. Can't wait to visit Scotland one day!
Eric, this series truly has been inspiring and eye opening to me. Your perspective of golf as a universal language is refreshing, keep up the good work.
Complicated feelings about this series. Fantastic courses, great array of known & unknown. My bucket list added a couple of courses. Crew seemed tired, maybe even stressed at times. Galloway was a great addition, some joy there. Keep it up Erik, don't burn out!
Amazing film Erik, the whole series has been incredible. I will no doubt watch them over and over and living in England I will go and play a lot of these courses. I love links golf, the air, the views, the quality of the courses and the people who are used to tourists coming and are welcoming. The best films I've watched on TH-cam and will only be matched when you do Ireland soon ! Thanks to Colt, Stu, Christian and Matthew Galloway as well, hope I've not missed anyone out ! Can't wait for next week's film pal
Besides the amazing golf courses... I’d have to say ...my favorite is listening to Stuart Kerr, Scottish dude that can just drop into any accent and imitate us Crazy Americans...and that he doesn’t know the local get around customs of Scotland. 🤣 great stuff👍🏻
I love these vids bro...I’m living vicariously through y’all. I do my own golf trips with friends but this is on another level. Very entertaining watch.
Allan McGregor Landsburgh. That’s my grandad. He’s ill now and therefore he can’t play, but I wish I could play with Eric once for my grandad. Keep up the great work Erik 🏴🙌🏽💙
Wow.....As always many thanks. So easy to get side tracked by the golf, the courses and the beauty. Taking it a step further and including the histories of these amazing places, just awe inspiring. Entire forests have lived and died while some of these courses have endured. Makes one wonder.......Will there be an Augusta in 200, 300, 400 years. What will it look like? Thanks again to you and your crew.......Wonderful!
so good to see some of my local courses and that you guys enjoyed Montrose - a real favourite of mine (and a local course). A great series well, really enjoyed watching you guys have fun
Two other shoutouts for the area close to Inverness: Nairn (stunning championship course, hosted the Walker Cup and Curtis Cup, and will have the Amateur Championship very soon) and Moray (a real gem that visitors often miss, next to the sea, it has a beautiful final hole that visually looks very similar to 18 on the Old Course. And it’s next to RAF Lossiemouth - very cool having the fighter jets fly low overhead during the round). Great series, loved these videos! New places discovered, courses played and friends made - amazing.
Lots more to bring you back! Two great courses that are a terrific adventure to get to are Machrie on the Isle of Islay (whisky capital) and Askernish on Uist, Outer Hebrides. Some sheep poo and rabbit holes about but the scenery and creative layout amount the dunes is fantastic.
Played Panmure Last week great track and monifief last year greens were like putting on glass and Montrose which is my favourite course I have played quality Erik keep up the great video's
Glad to see you included Monroe’s. The front nine lies on dunes above the North Sea with spectacular views. While the back nine goes inland, its still a good test of golf. One of the best, but least appreciated by Americans.
Don’t be put off by the comparatively low green fees compared to the big ticket courses (Inflated for the international visitor), there are plenty of £50-£100 a round courses in Scotland that will be just as challenging, fun and scenic for any visitors. Great to see some of these highlighted.
Some more courses to cross of the True Links bucket list... So many more great Links courses in the book to play....done about 70 of them myself ...only 176 to go..
I have played all of these montrose is my favourite, first time I played it the wind was wild and I hit a driver on 16 30 yards short and almost got on up sand down with flag at the very back I got a 7 up the last for a 100 and I had played very well
Hello Erik, must congratulate you and the boys on a fantastic video series of golf in Scotland, its a real eye opener, just wanted to ask you which course, in your humble opinion is Number 1, and which part of Scotland would you travel too if you were just playing 3/4 courses on a mini break? Thanks and regards Fraser
