Top 3 song from them for me. When they played this live when i saw them last month i about lost my shit. Then they played Cosmic to close, aaaaahhhh. Lol, great reaction
I was in pittsburgh and I could not have been happier that they played this, cosmic was the perfect cherry on top and best closer song ive ever seen live
8:04 - 8:54 I really like Portnoy's touch here, the ride and hihat touch that he often plays, and that wasn't there in the Save Me demo that I heard, Portnoy finished this song very well.
Intro on the century n epic song, has it all emotion, passion n love ❤️ RIP REV. One of my favorite transition at the six minute and a half mark amazing
I'm SO here for more A7X! (song was dedicated to The Rev - it might've been his lyrics, too - Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater even did the drum recording for the track, he too admired Jimmy :) )
I've heard that this song was actually written by the late drummer Jimmy "the rev" before he died. It's a song about his battle with depression and his outlook on life at the time.
@@thegamingwubbanot all bro, there are some typical ride and cymbal touches from portnoy and that wasn't there in the save me demo that i heard, portnoy finished this song very well
@@Shadows_shades.a7x Underrated? The dude keeps getting selected as best prog drummer over and over again for years and everyone knows him/respects him. He is the reason many people started to play drums including me.
@@Koray.Kyou're right, Portnoy is a legend, even though people think his drumming technique is just like that and boring, he has a very unique touch and groove, even when Mike Mangini plays DT he can't replace Mike Portnoy's soul in DT
Masterpiece of a song, this, along with a lot of this album, deals with the passing of their original drummer, which is why the album feels dark and bleak, this song is over 10 minutes so there’s no chance it would be a single, but it’s still considered one of their best songs by the fanbase. Would love to see what you think of their song Exist, it’s a 15 minute long trip
Reminds me of Chiodos for the first time ever don't know how iv never came to the same Revelation before I do love both the singers so maybe I just chose not to notice but this song is composed in a similar fashion like your watch a show on Broadway or something idk why but I like it
I miss my mother, 10:42 into your video I’m crying n laugh 😹 lol. Great stuff thx 🙏 for reacting good idea! My a few favorite A7X songs: Paradigm Simulation Wicked Ending Angles Buried Alive Radiant Eclipse Just a few of many I could put like 50+ but I won’t, thx again great channel
U know, the Cosmic reaction of your's still the best for me, and this will hit you a lot when you love this song, not quite different like Cosmic, u'll get The Eyes Well Up when u get the hit, give this a moment, let this grew on u ❤ Maybe ur mood is not the correct time that time, especially after hear Afterlife live version
I disagree with the "not needing the first 5 minutes" sentiment. I feel if you paid more attention to the lyrics you would have understood that. This song was one of the songs that paid tribute to The Rev (their deceased drummer). And the first 5 minutes are necessary for the lyrical content alone. Nevermind how the instruments set the theme for the song. Also there's no acoustic guitar in the song at all. What you heard in that section was an electric guitar with no distortion. In other words it's a clean electric guitar. Acoustic guitars sound completely different.
My apologies about the audio, It has now been fixed for future videos.

He has always been absolutely amazing with his tasteful cymbal plays. You can tell it is Portnoy's thing even if you didnt listen to the demo.
have you listened to the demo? @@Koray.K
