I got lucky I (am from the Netherlands) bought mine last year for 25€ with one controller. It was in perfect condition. I broke the factory seal to replace the thermal paste and cleaned it, because I use it and will never sell it anyway. The guy I bought it from didn't used it much and said he was growing out of playing games a few years ago and found the PS3 in the closet and it was the last console he played.
Hi there, Jacob R. I actually have a couple questions in mind that I was just wondering about since I happen to notice this a lot in most of your gameplay and unboxing videos. When you test out games on game systems, how come you only seem to play them for a short amount of time? Also, why do you always turn the volume down too for them? I just thought of asking though since I was only wondering. Great job on your videos though, by the way, and I also really like the backwards-compatible PS3 models myself as well since I even still have one that works fine so far for now.
@@pepsidude8919 most people are not interested in watching long periods of random gameplay, and keeping volume on during gameplay could result in a copyright claim
@@jrob0021 Okay then. I was just wondering though, but thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I still like TH-cam and all, but I don't like how strict they can be when it comes to copyrighted material since there's always a lot of different videos being removed due to copyright. Thanks again though for answering my questions and great job on your videos too.
It’s so cool that you came across an A01 on FW 1.10. Brings back memories to when I got my PS3 December 2006 and the games I had were Resistance Fall of man and NBA 2K7. I now have an A01 on FW 2.80. It’s the last firmwares with the original PS3 coldboot, black XMB waves, and the PS3 game boot. Sony removed otherOS on FW 3.21.
The games ironically fall out because of a lack of instruction manual. If you lightly press the outside of a game case without one it will pop the game out, something that's slightly harder to do when there's a chunk of paper between the case and retainer.
16:10 You can downgrade a PS3 to 1.10. I saw another comment mentioning that it requires a modchip, but in the past few years a browser based exploit has been available. I don't think it is downgraded though, just seems a bit odd considering the console is in that great condition. Also regarding the vibration, early firmwares just can't detect the vibration feature in the DS3 at all and I assume it somehow defaults to vibrating for some reason. Edit: There are a few PS3 games that should be able to run on it, Resistance: Fall of Man and some of the other launch titles should be able to at least, not sure if all of them do.
There is a browser based tool now that can downgrade that far but most people doing that are just going down far enough to install cfw. It would be weird to revert it to launch firmware before giving it to a thrift store
@@genericjosh96 yep someone who knows how go cfw mod a console would know it's retail value too and wouldn't be donating a $200 system to Goodwill in the first place

Even though the original models of the PS3 aren't very reliable most of the time, I personally still really like them though, especially the ones that are backwards compatible. So far, I've gone through quite a few backwards-compatible models of the PS3, two of which even got the YLOD years ago since they don't work now. I ordered another backwards compatible PS3 though from Amazon back in 2018 which is a 60 GB PS3 model and it still works fine so far for the time being even though it's a used console and even though I've had it now for four years already since it hasn't gotten the YLOD yet or anything since I've been pretty lucky so far.
Honestly it looks like the A01 was perhaps barely used. I know you can downgrade it but considering the condition and that those early models get hot if I were to hazard a guess it was prob just used as a blu ray player. You hit the jackpot for sure. From here you can either keep it play it once in a while or replace the thermal paste and jailbreak it. Really up to you. 2 months ago i brought an untested 20GB PS3 for $25 to replace my other 20gb PS3 which started having GPU problems and it worked. Sometimes you get lucky.
I snagged a A01 PS3 on goodwill and their shipping has damaged so many things I have ordered, and this was no different. The shipping job was so bad that the PS3 is now lopsided and pieces broken off. At least they did a better job with your package. The PS3 still works but errrrrrrr
It's cool that you found these and got lucky they worked, but I'm not seeing the long term value in the investment. The disc's for ps2 and ps3 games are two decades old and counting. They'll eventually degrade as will the consoles. I keep going back and forth on getting a backwards compatible ps3, but this thought always turns me away. I can emulate ps2 on my steam deck really well and I'd only get a ps3 for the mgs series. That leaves me with mgs4, which struggled on the ps3 itself and even struggles with the most high end cpus. They really need to do remasters on PC and make things right for the future.
They say it's untested so if it doesn't work if it gets damaged in shipping or whatever you bought it untested as it is so they're not liable. I guarantee they probably do test at least some of them but that's a liability thing when they say untested
@@jrob0021 not all splitters work but the best bet are those random 2 port splitters that are on eBay and Amazon under random Chinese brands. Any name brand one will handle HDCP correctly and pass it along to both output displays.

It depends where you live relative to the goodwill you’re buying from. Shipping is usually reasonable, but they also tack on a few dollars for “handling” which is annoying.
even if they test them and they work calling them "untested" just allows them to tell you to kick rocks when it arrives damaged in transit from being banged around and kicked like a football by USPS workers

I seem to flip between consoles and PCs, atm I have a PC building and modding bug... Tho I have a shelf of consoles waiting to be played with. Love never ending projects
Hey Jacob what’s the monitor your using in 6:50? I really want to know
The most interesting packaging i got was plastic bottles! Buy from ebay long enough, and you will see it all.
Hey Jacob. Firstly, I want to say that I’m glad that I came across your video man because I was trying to hopefully find a system ps4 in particular even though this a ps3 video and I’ve been seeing that you have to buy it from other companies like eBay and other things and they don’t have the best conditions. I’m trying to hopefully purchase one soon but I’m skeptical on it so any suggestions or tips that you may have?
man the delta 2 powerstation looks awesome
It’s a beast lol, I’ve wanted something like it for years
I have an E01 with 1.80 and I wish I can play all ps3 games without updating it. Is there any way to do it?
as a lego collector that hurt my soul that they did that to the lego box. by thr looks if it it was a castle set from kingdoms fantasy era. which are pretty expensive
Seeing those shredded Lego boxes hurt my soul, especially the Vikings one. 💔
Man I need to try to restore my old. 80gb ps3 BC.
Are those the ones withv Built-in DVD player
I paid $40 bucks for my 80 gig ps5 at a yard sale. And I paid 75 bucks to have cleaned and pasted running like a champ playing nba streets one of my favorite games
I don't know what to do now, I was going to get that ps4 laptop from you but the delta 2 looks nice and I go camping/hunting/fishing alot.
So this is why I kept loosing the auctions. I finally snagged a cecha for 75 a few weeks ago from shopgoodwill
I couldnt afford to buy backward ps3 due to these guys keep jacking up prices. They wanted bad.
I bought a Phat PS3 for $20 on Facebook Market. It is in great shape and working condition. Only thing is that its not backwards compatible.
I use too Jailbreak PS3s back in the day, I use too code modding tools, there is no official way too tell if it’s the official software or a downgraded software, either way if it was a CFW you will be able too tell and tbh CFWs only started around 3.55
yeah there's no way there is a custom 1.10 version.
They probably could but that FW was pretty limited in functionality.
Hey, you know you can use an HDMI splitter that is cheap that can actually get around the PlayStation three issue with DHDMI cable
FW 1.10 was what the PS3 launched with
2 months ago i brought an untested 20GB PS3 for $25 to replace my other 20gb PS3 which started having GPU problems and it worked.
Are the CECHE01 and CECHA01 price really that high? I have both of them and wanna sell $200 each. Both in working condition.
Is the second PS3 in this video the one that's on for sale on your website?
Where can I find a backwards compatible ps3?
Glad all of them worked. You should keep one to play PS2 games.
They say it's untested so if it doesn't work if it gets damaged in shipping or whatever you bought it untested as it is so they're not liable. I guarantee they probably do test at least some of them but that's a liability thing when they say untested
to bypass the hdcp on ps3s you need a hdmi splitter
That’s what I read, and now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure I actually do have an hdmi splitter somewhere lol
@@jrob0021 not all splitters work but the best bet are those random 2 port splitters that are on eBay and Amazon under random Chinese brands. Any name brand one will handle HDCP correctly and pass it along to both output displays.
My grandma used to work for goodwill back in the day .
Man 1.10. Loved the older startup on PS3s before firmware 3.00
Why specify if its backwards compatible or not when every ps3 can play ps1 games?
Most ps3s can’t play ps2 games…
@@jrob0021 yeah but that doesn't mean they're not backwards compatible they can play ps1 games just not ps2
I have two dev kit ps3 controllers that lit the logo red .. ofc they don't work with any of my 4 ps3 consoles and they have such a tiny battery. Cool tho lol
No Mr scammer i shall not click your telegram text, free vita handhelds do not grow on trees.
Hi what is the shipping like buying from goodwill? Thanks
It depends where you live relative to the goodwill you’re buying from. Shipping is usually reasonable, but they also tack on a few dollars for “handling” which is annoying.
@@jrob0021 awesome thanks looking to get a ps3 as well!
I just bought a 80gb ps3 fat for 120 bucks at this game store near me and its perfect glad I bought it
Don't waste your money on a delta 2 portable power station. I would recommend A-ipower generator. Definitely 400 dollars cheaper..
You can use an HDMI splitter for ps3 for the HDCP
Jacob you always have the best content man :)
Ok j long time sub here!! I know u have started to show ur face which helps ur views BUT were is ur afro!! Ur av shows a afro! Lol
Never had an Afro lol
Lol those delta claims, ps5, tv, fridge and microwave at same time? Yes for 10 mins max
What do U think your percentage is on getting consoles that work to consoles that don't work 🤔
Not sure of a percentage, but I’d say more often than not I get working consoles. Depends where I’m buying the console from
even if they test them and they work calling them "untested" just allows them to tell you to kick rocks when it arrives damaged in transit from being banged around and kicked like a football by USPS workers
Next time, when you make a video aboit consoles, how aboit focusing on that instead of showing something off, which can be bought separately and furthermore could have a full blown reviewvideo of its own?
What goodwill did you go to? I git a ps3 from goodwill for $19 Don't tell me goodwill is price gouging too now 😢
I think itd pretty cool to play some cod mw2 in the middle of the woods by a campfire
Bought a ps3 from goodwill, said it was tested, but when I got it, the disk drive didn't work, so I bought a drive on Amazon, and fixed it.
My backwards ps3 disc drive went out on mine .
More bulky than I expected. The only PlayStation I’ve ever had is my PS4 Slim 😅 I used to be an XBox guy but it was my uncle’s PS4 before he passed away so I switched so I could have a little piece of him in my life
Is that a civivi knife. I have one of those
Can you do a new video on free codes on websites
It is not downgrade , early CFW required 3.55 FW .
PS3, best SSD, RSX Overclock while being upscaled to 4K (no lag) is the only way to play the PS TRIPLE 😎
they go for 80 bucks all day in michigan
That’ll would have cost 1000$ a piece at that one guys yard sale
