  • I've done this video simply to look at how these timing chains come off using the timing chain tool I'm not sure it went very well. Things felt very tight, and I think there is something wrong under the cam cover. I will have to have a go at doing one on an engine that I know it runs properly.

Just so you know the top chain sprocket is slotted for chain tensioning . you turn it clockwise with the bolts loose , fit the chain with the crank and top right sprocket locked then release the tensioner and the sprocket will slide round ,then tighten the 3 sprocket bolts . No need to mark the slotted sprocket , if the tools fit in the timing is right

Your supposed to leave them 3 bolt loose and then release the tensioner pin. Then you tighten them up. Because the chain and sprocket will rotate slightly anticlockwise as the tensioner is released. If the sprocket bolts aren't loose then the chain won't be tensioned on the other side (right hand side chain).

The gold links go top an bottom when timed up and needs about 14 turns of the crank to come back rnd to line up 👍🏻

Cheers for that mate 👍 ,
Why does that spocket have that sloted bit, 🤔 is it just for the chain tension? Coz the tool holds the cam in time? 🤔

Think moved crank when doing head gasket, now I have light clattering. So will need to remove timing sprocket to time rear timing sprocket with cam sprocket? Also. Antiwear would I need to remove cam sprocket to reset antiwear? I have not removed either rear timing or cam sprocket. Head got skimmed with the attached.
      Hope I've not fucked it

It’s not so much that the chain snaps or stretches it’s the sprocket wears and jumps a few teeth 👍🏻

Try mate, never done a 2.0 one before, but something just not right almost awkward, stiff to move 🤔 and that top sprocket, bugging still ( why have so much movement) i'll find out, 👍
I'll get the head off next and see what going on,
