I think he didn't expect Megatron to be so strong and didn't want to seem weak after saying that the strength of a bot does the command and such, I really liked Starscream as commander of the high guard, I hope that in the sequel he takes a bit of the armada and such

That’s not a masochist, it’s him just encouraging Megatron to be evil and just be aggressive cause he’s in the moment

Yeah, I think Starscream wanted to see how far D-16 would go and if I remember it correctly Starscream begged to be spared after realizing that D-16 would just end him right then and there.

Agreed. While my internet ruined mind found it weird for a second it made sense in the moment. Especially for a Starscream yet not afraid and tormented by Megatron. We all only know the cowering Screamer, but showing him not being like that in the begining is a very smart move

Yeah It did feel like starscream was a masochist I dunno why but at least they gave us an explanation why he has that weird voice 😂

StarScream’s voice sounds weird because Megatron damaged his voice box while he was choking him in the fight.

I always like to think that StarScream acts tough in front of the high guard to hide his cowardly personality, when he tells D to punch him more I’d bet he thought that the High Guard would have his back and cheer for him for acting all tough, but they don’t. At that moment his demeanor changes, he gets a little desperate at trying to win them over, and then when D pulls out his gun thats when he starts showing his cowardice. StarScream could take a couple punches here and there, but when his life is in danger and things get incredibly serious for him, thats when he backs out.
I feel like they handled his Personality pretty well

I appreciate your view in this…
    …but I respectfully disagree…
    😅
I’d, of course, loooove to see a full-on background story on Starscream (and so many others), but…
I think that the storytelling here was effective… The scene couldn’t take all that long because of the overall screen time, and as you know… this was Starscream’s first ever encounter with D-16… So he had no idea about, not only D-16’s strength, but D-16’s inner resolve. My humble opinion: there’s no way Starscream would’ve won this fight… D-16 had far too much inner rage and reason to be so hyper-focused. Budget or not, this was a background story well told, even in its brevity.
When Starscream was egging him on, I agree with another commenter who said that he probably didn’t expect Megatron to be so strong, and was egging him on from the perspective of “you can’t hurt me”… It was more *taunting* him; not out of masochism, but in the challenge of “the strength of on bot over another”… Starscream f--d around and found out…
    😅
We can’t assume that just because any bot is in a high-ranking position that theee isn’t anyone who could challenge that bot… especially when there’s a real personal motive. We also don’t know where the stories will go from here… As we know, Starscream was always at strong enough to persist in his attempt for conquest, and the possibility exists that if the future is bright enough for all of us fans (to your point at 8:30), we will also hopefully see more stories to include Starscream and his rise through the ranks of the Cybertronian High Guard.
    Great conversation here… cheers!
    😊

To be fair, Starscream must be a masochist to survive Megatrons physical and mental abuse in all of the different continuities. Bro died in multiple shows, and yet came back to get beaten up again.

You’re not understanding the scene starscream was doing that just to anger Megatron more and more since he does the whole thing of “only thing that counts is the strength on one bot over another” that was his motto

True i didn’t see starscream to fight d16 in general but just anger him like you said but i the point is that starscream behing over powered by and it makes sense if you compare there physic especially D is way more buffer then screamer bagging make sense to because megatron could and would have killed him right on the spot and i see the cut pit ark of D canon just because it would make more and more sense for the scene

The High Guard could have changed their loyalty from Starscream after D-16 kept standing up to Sentinel Prime. That admiration to follow him would be better motivation than "strongest is our leader".

    LOL This title. XD
Also we saw Starscream as a leader in a lots of other media (IDW, Skybound comics, TFP, Cyberverse)
I think TF One actually managed to show Starscream's personlity in the two minutes he was on screen pretty accurately. Yes, at the start he was shown as this very dominating powerful figure. But you have to understand that Starscream is ultimately a coward (the scene where Arirachnid appeared with Sentinel's troups Starscream was trying to hide XD).
Starscream bluffs, and postures, treathens (this is why he eggs MEgatron on to keep hitting him), but ultimately folds if he has to face against someone much stronger. What usually happens in other media is: Starscream pissed Megatron off, provokes him, when Megatron starts beating him he will provoke him more. And then starts begging for mercy.
What I find strange is that in other continuities Starscrem gets this fucked up in the head because of Megatron's influence usually (in most continuities Starscream starst out pretty normal). But in this movie he is already pretty messed up from the start. Wish we could have had a bit more of his origin story in the film.
Also about Starscream ruling over Shockwave and Soundwave. The reason for this is not becuse he is stronger/more capable than these two. It is because they dont want to lead. Soundwave wants to work from the shadows, and Shockwave's first priority is science. There is no continuity where Starscream goes up against these two and comes up on top. (look up the Skybound comics when Soundwave challenges Starscrem for the leadership of the Decepticons XD, look up TFP's Soundwave, and Shockwave, look up IDW where Shockwave is such a treath that he almost destroyed the whole universe, and is a legitimate treath to Megatron while Starscream was never)
Also everyone turning on Starscream when D-16 beats him, makes sense. Idk how familiar are you with other TF continuities, but Starscream usually is not a good leader. He is petty, cruel. And the High Guard spent fifty cycles hiding in the wastelands in a delerict ship, under Starscream's leadership, and they have gotten no closer to their goal of defeating Sentinel. And then this new powerful bot comes and offers a solution.c And he prowes he has the power to back his plans off.
"D-16 should not be able to beat Starscream' In TF One the t-cogs are not just simpel organs like in other TF media. In TF One, the T-cogs give powers, combat knowledge, skill etc. D-16 has the t-cog of one of the PRIMES, who spent thousaands of cycles in war.

Why is everyone saying this? This isn’t what was going on. He was egging D-16 because he even said strength over one bot over another bot is what’s required to rule as a ruler.

Well, i take it with a little grain of salt, and if i were to "analyse" something out of it, i would say it is because Starscream was arrogant and over confident on his abiliies. But we do see that He still keeps a lot of power, as in the last arc, when Megatron orders, the high guard only acts AFTER Starscream does first.
And only take off after Megatron, AFTER Starscream does first.
SO i say they can still fix it AND give us a better reasoning as to why Megatron would keep Starscream Close.
As MEGATROIN can't get rid of Strascream, because to do so, would be give up on half the army.
Starescream still is popular amongst the soldiers, and the reason why Megatron would be abusive towords him, is because he knows that and is trying to get rid of that influence, and then be able to get rid of him.
Well, beside the not wanting to lose his throne thing.

  • @curtiskopke1177

I think D-16 should have maybe lost that fight, even if it was close. He could have used some of his knowlage of fighting and loosing to Starscream to fight Sentinel (since both have similar things going on with both being jets and such) and it would have been cool to see him take Sentinel on after his defeat. Starscream could maybe have gotten something to do in the final battle as the leader of the high guard. In the sequel they both could have had a rivalry, with the "Decepticons" split between Megatron and Starscream and in the end the stronger would emerge as the definitive leader.

I really appreciate your content, so thanks for for all the videos you make. I have to admit that I'm new to more media of the transfomers. I started with the WoC and FoC games as a kid and then caught up with some of the comics. I personally like the escalation of the last parts of the movie. As much as I agree that it feels rushed. I like to see it as if D-16 fuled by anger just stopped restraining himself. The same goes for his fight with Starscream. (You might add details to explain better to me if you feel like it, I would appreciate it to know more about it) But I believe that Starscream didn't want to kill Megatron but his arrogance brought him to loose. Compared to D-16 finally having power he never had before didn't know how to restrain it and just used his anger and hatred for Sentinel to go all-out.

I do wish we could've gotten more of Starscream because Steve Buscemi as Starscream is such a perfect casting idea that I only wish we could've explored more of it.
While I did sometimes think about why Starscream was enjoying Megatron beating him to a pulp, I do believe Starscream saw his anger and rage and wanted to exploit that, maybe by influencing someone who could be used as his tool of finally ending Sentinel's reign over Iacon, since he and the High Guard were just as vengeful against Sentinel as much as D-16 was and have tried to sabotage his secret Energon shipment routes to the Quintessons. If that were the case, then it would make a bit more sense why it seemed like Starscream was a masochist, even if I wish they could've had a quick scene before half of them were captured to have D-16 and Starscream talk where Starscream acts as Megatron's Iago to his Othello, subtley manipulating him to become more ruthless to benefit himself. This is something that I really hope we see more of in a sequel because I can totally see Starscream assume he has control over Megatron's anger but slowly realise that with how brutal the war on Cybertron would become, he sees how his own ambitions have twisted, Megatron to become more diluted, more unhinged and more ruthless than ever corrupting the planet they lived on for his own misguided insanity despite D-16 once being a enraged revolutionist who wanted to make Cybertron better, albiet one who was fuelled by betrayal and willing to take lives to do so. In short, I really hope we do get a sequel because there is so much to explore, and I think this would give Starscreams relationship with Megatron a whole new layer to Starscream feeling guilty over unintentionally creating a monster that would destroy their world, one who becomes just bad, or even worse than Sentinel ever was.

Not all that unsurprising that starscream lost. Fighting isn’t about who’s more skilled and who’s not. You can be the biggest guy in the room and still get bopped by just the wimpiest of shots. Take Hoodini for example. It’s also apparent that starscream had a different fighting style to megatrons stockier build.
Tldr, if he didn’t get pinned down he could have won.

Megatron had the t-cog of a Prime, so it makes sense for him to have won that fight (in addition to the obvious plot necessity,) but I have to agree, they couldn't have gone wrong with SS having an upper hand at some point. He has more experience with his alt mode after all, why not use them thruster heels for escape? Eh. I don't care when he's clowned on by the narrative unless it makes Meg look like a moron for keeping him around.
But don't give up hope yet; competence doesn't need to be shown with a flashback. Megatron had his world turned upside-down in a day, so even with Decepticon loyalty, he shouldn't have leadership abilities immediately. There could be a scene where SS points out what he's doing wrong and what should have done instead- the usual antagonization. Even better, we could get a part with Megatron NEEDING Starcream's help to keep things under control.

I love hearing some negative analysis if the story. I loved the movie but it wasn't perfect. I think all the priblems we have with it is for once we get a nice short film but this time its too short because we all want more. I hope he can be fleshed out in the other movies.
