  • ★ “You fired her for helping a veteran? Shame on you!”
Kelly, a kind-hearted hairstylist, offered a free haircut to a struggling veteran. Her act of kindness cost her job, but it didn't go unnoticed. Just 30 minutes later, an unexpected visitor arrived at the salon, changing Kelly's life forever. This is her story. ★

Some people, like myself, couldn't get into the military due to a health issue. So I served at home in my own way. I volunteered with Red Cross and The Salvation Army, using my radio skills as a ham radio operator to help with Red Cross Disaster Services as an emergency communicator, and from RC classes I took for Advanced First Aid & CPR, Volunteer Driver, and Damage Assessment. And all of that while working as a computer repair technician. My volunteer experience was rewarding in its own way.

I am a ex Royal Australian Air Force member who served only in Australia for 30 years and never had to face an enemy who was trying to kill me. Whether that makes me a veteran is for others to decide. However I am also a lay preacher in our church. To that end in Scripture there is a passage - "you reap what you sow". Both Kellie and her boss reaped what they sowed. To help someone when they are down, and down for whatever reason, is to do what our Good Lord asked us to do. Hopefully Kellie's boss learned from her (incorrect) ways - maybe not. Some people never learn. Their world revolves around themselves and many have a rule in life - money comes first, money comes second and money comes third. I know several of those people. All I can do is pray for them and try to show them there is a better way to live.

As a disabled American veteran, you served your country that long and was blessed not to be in combat. Regardless you still stayed in that long never knowing if you would be called to a combat zone. Serving your country in the military makes you a veteran. Good for you. I only served 12 years and had to get out under medical reasons for nerve agent exposure. If course under honorable conditions.

I truly believe that what happened to Kelly's boss, should take place with any person who abuses the privilege of owning a business in any town.
No wonder Kelly's new business flourished, the owner treated every customer with a joyous smile and concerned interest in whoever the client was.
Every single client comes into a shop looking to buy something.
The owner knows that by treating them in an orderly manner, they will always advertise that business as a place where they care for their clients.

Having spent 20 years in the USN, I find this story rather inspiring. Leaving the military after years of having everything controlled for you is a massive culture shock. It is like "Now, what do I do?". Sometimes, people cannot handle the change and without a support network they may not survive. This is especially true if the person suffers from PTSD as a result of their service. Fair winds and following seas for everyone (except maybe for the Russians).

people need to at least try to understand how difficult it is for young men and women to be placed in combat and then return to civilian life. I served in Iraq as a 40 plus year old and the stress of carrying a gun and worrying about getting killed or injured everyday for a year required a period of time for me to readjust to civilian life when i returned. And I benefited from having a long life of experiences to help me readjust. I can only imagine how difficult the readjustment is for younger people who have no real life experiences to fall back on. please have some empathy.

I love spreading kindness. Since I am tight on money; I donate clothes and food.
A family member is upset with me for helping too much. Mostly at home. I make sure house is clean, animals fed and give leftovers to my crow friends. I enjoy taking in goldfish that need rehoming for my pond.
But it's hard when you are told you help too much. Was told if you are not asked to help...don't. People don't like it.
My sin is making sure our coffee pot is full of water, picking up stuff off the floor before the robo vac runs.
Even watering plants got me in trouble. Our sun porch was hot. Plants drooping. So I watered them.

Very nice story & I'm glad it worked out so well on Kelly's part. First, if I was fired by Sydney, I wouldn't have stayed any longer to clean or do another thing. I would've walked out. Period. Kelly didn't reap any rewards from the Shop owner for doing that. Secondly, I think it went unusually well for her because the Towns People knew Jason. If this was an unknown individual, Kelly still would've done the free cut & been fired, but no Mayor or crowd of people would've returned. It was all about people covering for each other within their circle.

What a beautiful story. It's all about love and treating people with kindness. This guy was a veteran. He gave his life to make the world better for us. Why would somebody act so nasty? The coma is real. It's a blessing that the mayor had a heart as well.

Love, Compassion, Kindness, Thankful, Miss Kelly. Is an Angel. Who befriended another angel Jason who served this country to give others freedom. Though this Mrs. Sydney Has none of these traits. So she has gotten whatever she gets in life. But Compassion is that which is what we all need to give to all our veterans.

God bless Kelly for the kindness and selflessness, it goes to show that there are people who have a heart to help others in need no matter what to make other's happy, to play a daily A.R.K (act random kindness) not only does it make other's happy but also ourselves ❤❤❤

Your closing statement is very true in life, looking back there are many examples of poor investments in once thought friendships. Too bad we have to get old before learning hard life lessons. Youth is wasted on the younger self

I always try to thank veterans for there service where ever I see them. A while back I walked across a small parking lot to thank and elderly man for his service he looked to be quite older than my self .I thank him and said I am so sorry for the way the government treats the veterans this day in time he look at me and said it's a damn shame at how we get treated while illegals get treated the way they do I look to speak to him and he had tears in his eyes .I'm sorry but I had to walk away I'm 65 this man had to be at least 80 and to see that made me ashamed at what this country has become. To all the veterans in this country I am truly grateful for the price you paid and for your service and may God bless you.
