- Since we were heading to the airport, I decided to make a simple bento for the family!
Salted Salmon:
Approximately 1 lb of Salmon filet
1-2 Tbsp sake
3 Tbsp kosher salt
Cut salmon into 2-3 inch pieces and soak in sake for 10 minutes.
Dab with a paper towel and sprinkle salt on both sides. Store in an air tight container for 1-2 days.
Take out and bake at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Sesame Broccoli
1-2 T. Shoyu
Sesame Oil (just a dash)
1 clove of garlic
Boil broccoli and mix in sauce
Tamagoyaki
eggs
shoyu
mirin
milk
sugar

So good to see people that take the time to make their own food as well control what they are putting into their body. Ume musubi yum haven't had that in decades
Yes, so true!
When i was younger! My Dad would stop by "Gulick Delicatessen in Kalihi" to by me Bento for my field trips. I would get everything you made, plus noodles, spam musubi & side of Veggies. 😋❤ Those were some good times. 😊❤ Miss Home! 😩 SAFE TRAVELS! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thanks for sharing your memories! I always love when people tell me that my videos reminds them of family or the past.
I love Umeboshi too. Hachimitsu (honey) is my favorite. Lately I have been making Cucumber and ume salad. I am addicted. My husband doesn't like ume either so I don't have to share. Your bento looks delicious. Definitely better than having to buy food at the airport
That sounds so good! The Ume that I got actually was pretty sour so I added honey to it. lol. I'll look for that one next time!
Aloha Cari. Another great cooking video, mahalo for these great videos!

Loved this video cause I’m always bringing food to eat on plane. Did you have the musubi overnight in the fridge if so was the rice still soft.
And do you bring small plates or just use the big one for the three and I guess you can use cover. You eat this at airport not during flight.
Enjoyed this video immensely. Ellie is so cute and the way she says broccoli classic lol.
Thumbs up
Good questions! Yes, I had it I the fridge and it still was soft the next morning. I didn't bring any plates... we just ate it out of the container and yup we definitely used the cover too. haha. We decided to eat it at the gate. Since our daughter is still under one, she is still a lap child so there isn't a lot of space to eat a full meal on the plane if we can avoid it.
Hi Cari. New subscriber to your channel and enjoying your videos very much! The salted salmon looks so good, I’m going to try to make it. Dumb question on the salmon: When you first soaked the salmon in the sake it was skin side up, but at the end of the soak it was skin side down. Was it turned halfway through? Thank you!
Hi! Welcome to my channel! haha! Wasn't sure if people were going to catch that. lol. I forgot to mention in the video that I did flip it over half way through so both sides of the salmon got to soak in the sake.
That’s too funny! Okay, will do the same and flip the salmon over. Thanks Cari!
😊by the way where were you traveling to
we went to the big island! I made an instagram reel! You can check the short video there! @cari.taira
