    There is a cost to convert from CCS1 to J3400 - I think it's that simple. I suspect OEMs have already made purchase commitments to buy the CCS1 hardware and want to complete those buys before moving to J3400.

    JAN 26 ;Tesla app now shows Kia E6 (with adapter) the V3 Supercharger network. Apparently it will not charge though. 😂. I had charged the EV6 a week ago using the ioniq 5 profile which mapped sites and authorized charging for Kia VIN. That was taken off line few days later.

    Still here in Europe we have different charging standards with CCS,. It would be nice if we could get world wide charging standards 😜🤟

    I love how he makes it sound like you should just move the port from here to here and change it out. These are decisions that take a ton of effort and time to happen to a manufacturing line of vehicles. And a ton of testing. It doesn’t happen overnight and it isn’ t“just moving it.“ Missy of the auto manufacturers only made this decision less than a year ago or a little over a year ago. It’ll take another year most likely before you’ll start seeing this routinelybuilt-in. And if they’re having to move it, maybe more. This is a huge undertaking for an auto manufacturer.

    Hyundai is pronounced Hunday, like Sunday. The Ioniq Guy shows the extra equipment added to the floor of the cargo area that allows the NACS port to charge with AC and DC. It’s in his most recent video introducing his 2025 Ioniq 5. Could be part of the reason some manufacturers haven’t immediately put the NACS port in as it require more than just a different port. Good video, thanks Isiah.

    Native NACS vehicles will be carrying around CCS to NACS adapters because Tesla is not putting enough shovels in the ground to keep up with the explosive demand for EV fast charging.

    One more for Apple that is well before your time… the iPod started on FireWire then moved to the 30 pin connector which was also used on the original iPhone - iPhone 4. That was replaced by the Lightning connector and now USB C.

    I suspect the J3400 change isn't being implemented so quickly by manufacturers because of supply chain shortages, not just of the new physical ports/plastic but of related charging electronics and BMS (incl. BMS software & logic, which must undergo lots of tests). It's also possible Tesla is restricting the new companies (i.e. making them sign agreements) to phase-in (over months/years) their switch to J3400, to protect Tesla's supply chain access.
    If 20 manufacturers all began ordering J3400 parts for 2 million vehicles this year, Tesla would have lots of difficulty getting NACS parts for its own needs. So they've probably legally restricted or phased-in each manufacturer. Apply some patience. We should expect everyone to have J3400 re-designed vehicles in 2 yrs. Then 2nd, there's the equally large & expensive issue of DC fast-charger connector retrofits/replacements. And 3rd, you have to leave enough CCS1 connectors for the millions of existing non-Tesla vehicles.

    The new Audi Q6 has the charge port in the same location as Tesla. Shame they are so late to the game gaining access to the SuC Network. I can use TSuC on my road trips up north.

  • @keep-ukraine-free
    @keep-ukraine-free 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    You should understand NACS and SAE-J3400 are not the same. The current/latest standard is J3400, which even Tesla had to modify their cars (mainly software) to comply to. No other manufacturer will use NACS. All will use J3400. Older Teslas with their older NACS aren't compatible with J3400, so they'll have problems charging at new J3400 chargers.

  • @mikecarter2737
    @mikecarter2737 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    And in Europe, they don't need adapters for DC charging.
    Things will only get worse for awhile. Non-Teslas with J3400 ports will need adapters for CCS1 and AC charging on J1772 plugs. NACS and J3400 are not identical - just ask drivers of older Teslas without CCS1 support who try to use J3400 plugs.
    All of this chaos, costing consumers billions, was caused by a handful of people.

    • @jmbickham
      @jmbickham 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I think you meant to say that the Tesla Connector and NACS/J3400 are not the same underneath while externally being the same connector. NACS/J3400 adds CCS communication protocol standards (ISO 15118) to the Tesla Connector, which is what enabled newer Teslas to use a CCS1 to NACS adapter at EVGo, Electrify America, etc. (i.e. the were able to communicate over ISO 15118 and so could use just a pass through connector). Older Teslas (2018 or 2019 and older) do not as the Tesla Connector utilized CAN bus to communicate.
      As far as Europe and CCS2… it’s almost as hideous as CCS1 and being a forced standard it just stifles the ability of the industry to migrate to something better if and when available… until the government gets around to pushing another mandated standard.
      All this costing consumers billions? LOL. Older Tesla owners can’t even use CCS1 with a connector/adapter. Of the newer Tesla owners most do not have nor want a CCS1 adapter… this is precisely for the same reason that other automakers FINALLY decided to jump onto Tesla’s standard. The US CCS1 network has FAR fewer charging stalls (a single location may have 2-4 chargers vs Tesla who has 6-98 stalls at EACH location) and they’ve pretty infamously faced consistent problems with broken handles, broken cabinets, broken modems (preventing activation/payment), slow charging, etc. etc. etc. By comparison in the US they basically suck, so unless one is in a location where there aren’t many charging locations available, no one is REALLY interested in getting the CCS1 to NACS adapter as anything other than a backup plan. So. Basically Tesla owners don’t have one… that only leaves everyone else who is on CCS1. Not even all automakers have been given the green light to start using it yet and the majority of them are offering the adapters for free. So… where are the billions this is costing CONSUMERS?
      There is a great Reddit thread that goes into the pros and cons in technical detail.

    More importantly is when will Telsa update THEIR chargers and make them truly compatible with the 800v platforms? Till then the Tesla network is just a "If no others exist....I guess I need to use the OLD Telsa chargers". I drove an EV9 2500 miles from South Dakota via Ohio and NC to South Florida on existing real fast chargers first week of December 2024. So don't really need them.

    Hyundai should have put the NACS connector on the LEFT or driver's side rear for J3400 port. Regardless of the brand, Tesla did pick the correct placement of the pott for most people that have a garage and charge inside. You plug in the vehicle, then out and the cable is not in the way.

    This was obnoxious. Maybe get a clue how manufacturing works in the regulated auto industry, especially if your job requires such knowledge. Manufacturers can't just make changes (like a new charging port) in a frozen design that's already launched. Maybe learn that if they change anything deemed significant in an existing design, they'll have to resubmit it for certifications, EPA ratings, maybe new crash tests. Not to mention dealer issues: service dept. parts, training, supply chain impact, etc. All depends on what they change. That's why most manufacturers push out many small changes together... every 2-3 years (and major changes every 5+ yrs).
