I talked to George today after watching your video. He was very helpful we talked for over a half hour. I'm new to plasma cutting and he explained a lot to me that I didn't know. I told him that I found out about him through your video. Thank you for making great videos and explaining things.
Dear Kevin, Yesterday I had to replace the gun and cable for my GYS Cutter 35KF because I had previously broken off the electrode tip. I was unable to find a supplier who had just the gun and could only find one supplier who had the gun attached to the cable, the gun model is PT-35C. I realized that the supplier did not provide a coupling tube for the air hose, but then I remembered your video where you replaced the innards of your torch gun and you pointed out that there was a coupling tube inside for the air hose and you stressed the importance of holding onto those little clamps. So I opened the gun, removed the coupling tube and clamps and was able to successfully replace the entire cable and gun that way, putting the coupling tube inside the main unit. So, thanks so much for that info. It really helped me out! P.S. I apparently have one of the few plasma cutter guns that doesn't accept drag tips... If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it. I've used a chariot but it's not so great.
I am not familiar with your machine. But if you check with George at georgesplasmacuttershop.com I am sure he will be able to point you in the right direction.
Your video just cleared up several questions I had about plasma cutter tips and guides. I am still deciding what make and model cutter to purchase but now I have a better understanding of what to look for. Thanks for your expert presentation.
My Hypertherm came with a drag nozzle. Even though it's copper, it is made for constant contact with the metal. It's nice that someone's making nozzles like that for the discount cutters.
What a difference 3 years makes! My (cheap, rubbish, garbage - believe what you want) Chinese CT 312 MMA/TIG/plasma cutter came with isolated drag cups as standard. Even the tips are double ended, although I haven't used mine enough yet to know if I can burn out one end and turn it around for twice the lifespan. I'm sure that the wire stand off would work for freehand cutting, but the lateral stand off would be a nightmare when cutting against a guide.
Kevin, thanks for the very informative video. I will be getting the drag tip for my plasma torch tomorrow. I do a lot of auto spot weld busting with my machine, this has to make it work better. I learn something new every time you have a new video. Thanks again.
Lotos 50a unit He did get back to me and believed Lotos did not provide this feature. However, having a lathe and some brass to turn, I believe a brass sleeve press fit over the standard insulated cup can easily be made - my next project. Thanks :-)
Hi kevin u made one very important comment at the start of your video that is creating a short when the tip touched the work ,that's y so many people have blown up there cheap Chinese plasma cutters so your info was very informative tar
Thanks for watching! Don't forget to call George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com/Contact-Us-Page.html He can set you up with whatever you need for your plasma. Please use my name when you talk to him.
Hey Kev, just a suggestion.... a split screen view, side by side of the two different tips in action would really help us see the difference. Really enjoy your videos, and easy going nature. Thanks for the nuggets of wisdom!
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Shane Misael i really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Looks great. I'm putting together a Christmas list and have been thinking about a plasma cutter just to play around in the garage with for crafts, etc....What's the cheapest plasma cutter you would recommend? I have 110 and 220 in my garage along with a compressor already. I want to spend the least amount possible as this won't be used everyday. Thank you.
Kevin I am very new to Plasma cutting and just purchased an Lotos LTP 5000 but being from Aussi land Can not really give George a ring but my question is the unit comes with a CP 133 cutting torch which means nothing to me when I am buying consumables are they the AG60 SG5 compatible or if not can you advise. And I love your little tips you make life a lot easier
Go to his web page, look on the contact page. His email is right there and he told me he would help you. www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com/Contact-Us-Page.html
I just purchased a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 152 and I'm very concerned about protecting my eyes from experiencing flash. What sort of eye protection would you suggest ?
I normally use a shade 9 cutting lens. Either glasses or goggles. I also try to keep the light below the metal by keeping a close gap with the torch. Maybe a 1/8th inch at the most of a gap.
Kevin.... can a single flow plasma cutter just change the torch to a “dual flow plasma torch” and use two gasses? Cutting/shielding? Next video you should make on plasma cutting, single vs dual flow, and how to setup. 😉🙏 I can’t find anything online, can’t even find a machine that’s Dual flow plasma cutter. Even tho they exist...🤷♂️
Kevin Caron, Artist cool, so in some cases, lower amp machines can use a Mix of different gasses to cut thicker steel, and not only will the different gas/gas mixes help cut thicker steel, the gas can help in cut finish, and especially true for a plasma that uses a gas for shielding. So from what I’ve read, some people will have the steel in water, that helps a lot too, with cutting thicker metals + getting a finer/cleaner cut when not having the “shielding gas” Also reading online; using a proper gas mix for plasma vs just compressed air, is way better, especially if you want clean fine cuts, spending less time cleaning up corners with a grinder
Hypertherm plasma machine are all drag tips. Newest machines have built in compressors and automatically set your air pressures for you. Enjoy watching your videos learn something every time and you do some fantastic art work!
Lol plasma nipples ! Great tips Kevin ,thanks ! I run the thermal dynamics Cutmaster 80 personally . And for the majority of use it doesn't need to head past the 40 amp adjust . Matter of fact ,,I prefer the 40 amp tip for precision and the fact that it doesn't require the compressor to run steady
Check with George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com He is an expert on the plasma cutter and can get you the right stuff for your machine. He hangs out on the weld.com forum also.
That things sure does straight cuts! Even when I use brand new consumables and around 90psi dry air and good ground, I ALWAYS get bevel cuts, no matter the clean steel thickness...Grrrr. I have a good quality machine (Hypertherm 40Amp) and proper 220 current, too. Frustrating for sure, and LOTS of grinding. What's your secret?
Proper size consumables to the amps and the air pressure. You also have to watch your travel speed as well. Call George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com He can get you the right consumables for your machine and he can also get you up to speed on the rest of it. He is my suppler for all my plasma needs.
I know this is a really old question but for anyone else who reads it : travel speed, nozzle size and amps are the obvious things. One less obvious thing that will make a small difference is which side of the torch you put to the good or bad side of the cut. The metal on the right side relative to travel direction will get a better cut than the left. Different travel directions will change which side is the right side so keep that in mind.
@@Lucas12v Yep, you are correct. Turns out, my air was a bit clogged from the get-go and all is well now. And you are correct about direction etc - weird but true - thanks! By the way, did you see Kevin's video about gas cutting (in my case only really thick material -- and incidently with oxygen and PROPANE - what?!) with a tubing clamp on the nozzle. He is a very fine and clever man.
@@AerialLensVideo Haven't seen that one. I actually just stumbled across this channel and this is the first video I've watched. I'm aware of oxy propane but I've only ever used acetylene myself. If you want to see some really impressive torch work on thick metal, check out ic weld. He does mostly equipment repairs in the field but some shop stuff too. Lots of torch work and gouging.
@@Lucas12v Will check it out - Thanks. To be clear, Kevin showed his little trick with acetylene, BUT I later discivered the propane/oxy combo on youtube someplace when I ran out of acet on a weekend. Shocked it cuts perfectly well and way far cheaper. Bonus is, the acet gages setup screw RIGHT IN to a common propane grill tank - same threads exacrly. I am so pleased - even with welding - I will never buy acetylene again.
How often does that small metal edge with those tiny cutouts get clogged up in use, and then short out? It seems to me that it’s awfully close to a danger point right out of the factory. I’ve seen that happen with a Hypertherm, which is an awfully good machine.

Is a drag cup (shield) necessary when running a 30 amps or less plasma cutter? Its been my understanding you can rest torch tip right on metal with
In my opinion , yes, you need a drag tip if you are going to drag.. Don't care what amps you are running..
That was a very useful video. I just might buy some specialty nozzles for my everlast plasma cutter.
Makes a nice difference and not that expensive to break the bank.

Still running strong! No problems at all.
Georges has circle cutter also doesn't he? Can you show its uses? Great job, always informative.
Hey Kevin, another great video, thanks!
But how with torches without pilot arc? They must be connected to working material.
Not sure, never used one.
all depends if yor plasma is pilot arc or not
thankyou sir awesome video
a little off topic, but What # or color glasses are best for that?
I like to use about a 7 shade... Dark enough for O/A cutting but not as dark as tig welding..
where do you buy the drag cups and drag tips ? thanks
