- Absolutely amazing teamwork from everyone involved on this job. OSP and ODOT were great to work with and everyone worked so well together. This was near Burns Oregon. The rear steer failed, forcing him into the mountain side. Thanks to everyone involved in this team effort! Hope you all enjoy the video!

It's not that they didn't want to do the job. It was most likely because they didn't have the capability of moving this. Even Ron and the tator would have been outmatched on this one.

Yeah insurance, I know somebody who needed only two tow trucks, and the bill was like $25k, imagine, this bill, will be over $100k. Insurance could say bye bye to the owner. Or pay cash. Insurance have a power to kick you out, if they feel you cost them to much. Insurance is legal mafia.

In the 70's and 80's I drove a heavy duty wrecker, I snapped a cable pulling a drilling rig up a steep dirt hill. My truck jumped 2 feet off the ground, and I DIDN'T get hit with the cable. MUCH RESPECT to your whole team.

Awesome work!! I saw Sarge and it took me back 48 years. I was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas as mechanic and wrecker operator (1974 - 75). I was with the 96th Transportation Company (heavy truck).
That was maybe the best hour long telling video I’ve watched in a very long time! Definitely an hour and nine minutes well spent.

Awesome recovery guys. I'm in heavy haul, moving the exact same equipment. A failed booster cylinder is more common than ppl think. One of my guys was in the same situation a few months back. Unfortunately they couldn't get him pulled out rolling, so a couple 80T rotators later, off came the scraper. Again Kudos on the great job fellas. 👏

I know nothing about the design of the booster cylinder and the system, but it seems that if failures are common and results can be catastrophic, that some sort of redundancy could be built in.

As a trucker myself…. Thankfully I’ve never needed a wrecker service “knock on wood” but I can truly appreciate the hard work and effort you guys put in to keeping these big trucks moving when needed!! Great teamwork! I can’t help but be curious about that bill……35-45k???
I’m guessing its atleast 10K per towtruck and then the asfalt repairs. Wouldn’t be surprised if the number has six figures
@@yrtracingteam106 I was figurin' it would probably be into the six figure territory too. There were a lot of trucks and people plus the time that all of that was tied up must have been the whole day...there was six hours of travel time to get there and back. Glad it's not my bill heh, heh.

Imagine the driver of the truck showing up next morning with a tow bill to the boss
75 to 100 grand? Ive seen 80k for a rotator picking up a wrecked steel hauler and its lost load.
I would bet the bill is big enough to warrant an insurance claim.
I'm pretty sure Country Repair is pretty fair on prices i seen them prices and are pretty fair and it takes alot to be on towing over 36 years that means they are doing it right
@@jorgegonzalez-bk8zn Fair yes, but most of those trucks are charging around $500 hr and they also charge by how much cable is pulled in certain circumstances. So a buttload of trucks, all the miles to get there, and all the hours on site are going to be a hefty bill.

I've hauled a lot of these 8-35 pans and 750 E dumps and it's rough stuff you gotta know your stuff to drive these mountain roads. This was a great job getting this equipment back on the road..awesome..

A lot of people asking why not unload the machine first. An RGN is incredibly difficult to separate at a sidewise angle and almost impossible to do it when the truck is twisted at a different angle to the trailer. The bottom of the trailer would not be supported properly the way it’s leaning, and dropping it to unload could cause severe structural failure of the trailer. Plus, lifting the rear power unit by resting the pan on the deck while the trailer is leaning is just asking to have the whole thing slide off the trailer. There is absolutely no room on that road to set up a large enough crane to lift that scraper, and you just greatly increase your risk of catastrophe trying to do that. What really caused this accident is anyone’s guess. And what it cost for recovery is really no ones business.

Rotator is nothing but a crook. He was not needed at all and I must believe he knew he wasn't needed but just outright ripped the owner and the insurance company off for the Lord only knows how much and is arrogant enough to post this for all to see with no shame whatsoever. 😡

I've seen tons (no pun intended) of these types of videos. I don't know why but I'm obsessed with watching heavy/oversized loads being rescued. Slow pros
Great job. Old Sarge rigged with a 5 to one would have generated 225,000 with a good anchor. In my case I was the only recovery available for a heavy pull. My anchor was an M60. Short pulls and a lot of work. Keep up the excellent job and videos! Greetings from Germany, nice to be retired!

Nice job guys, having been around this kind of environment this is truly a lot more involved than it looks, so many different situations and such a great potential for something to go wrong. The man on the rotator is the one who really has to see past everything and compare it to his vision. True form of art as it takes great skill often mentored from another and somewhere along the way everybody learns a lesson or 2 on what wont work. I worked as a mechanic a no of years for a heavy hauler based out of Elko MN G&T trucking in the mid 90s and they hauled the big stuff out of the mines up in northern MN and any west bound machinery that went up in the mountains they sent along a pusher to help it along. Man what a investment in equipment and a great video, look forward to more, be safe fellas and God bless

I've watched many rotators on Netflix and TH-cam do their thing and am seriously impressed! I was able to see a 75-ton rotator in person in a city near me and I was like a kid who was getting an autograph from a famous celebrity! I know there aren't that many (probably less than a 1000) out in the world!
Awesome job and communication!! I was a tow and recovery driver for about 4 years and only did calls for anything smaller than a 2500 HD or F-250. The craziest recovery I was assisting with, was a vehicle that ended up down a mountain side about 150-175 ft. That was an interesting situation.
That booster cannot possibly force the rear of that trailer over like that going forward. Especially loaded. That happened if reverse. The hydraulics are in float when going forward and cannot possibly effect the steering. They (hydraulic system) are there for "bump steer" when backing AND ARE ONLY TO BE USED WHEN UNLADEN! They will fail if loaded heavy and will not steer the rear of the trailer. My guess is that driver misjudged the apex of that curve and got the trailer axles into the ditch panicked and stopped. He then tried to use the steering to back up and reposition for the turn. Hydraulics failed as they are not designed to do that loaded. The more he screwed with it the worse it got.
Sorry, but that is the truth. I have pulled those trailers and real steerable trailers for 25 years. I have seen all types of failures. THAT trailer will not go out of control when moving forward unless there is catastrophic failure of the walking beam or suspension guides. The only type trailer that will go sideways during a steering mechanism failure is a tillerman style trailer which is automatically self steering.
So unless there is mechanical failure of the suspension on the trailer axles, that is driver error.
I will say you guys did an excellent job on a really difficult recovery. Well done.

Maybe was going slow cause of the sharp turn. To make the turn he would have to take it wide, but at that time a vehicle was there. He slowed more had to cut the turn making the trailer hit the gravel off the road, slowing more. So slow he doesn't have the power to go up the hill. He rolls backwards then parks
I knew if I scrolled down here far enough I would get the right answer. Once the stinger drops off the road, speed and momentum are your only friends (won't help every time) and he clearly didn't have either in this case. My guess is his employer will come to the same conclusion Mr. riggin did........
Great job calculating the weight and resistance you had to overcome, devising a plan, and executing it perfectly. That was a huge recovery.

I run lowboy also, I cross tie just for this reason, cross tieing will NOT ALOW IT TO SLIDE . And usen the Propper size of chain & not galvanized .... And also getting your binders as tight as you also. I've seen where drivers had a chain or chains not tight & your chains can snap because you have little bit of slack .
Would've been easier to winch out if it had come off tho.

I was thinking the same thing. I didn't have to turn the volume down so low that no one else in the house could hear. Half the experience is recognizing which sound precedes which catastrophe (or, in this case, which success).

The scale is enormously different, but this reminds me of the time my father recovered my uncle's 1 ton Chevy cube van with his 3/4 ton Ford pickup. Van was on its side in the ditch after he swerved to avoid someone who ran the stop sign. Dad hooked low on the front axle on the side of the van that was in the ditch, hooked the other end of the chain right to bumper on the opposite side of his truck (it was a custom bumper made of 6" channel so it took it fine), put it in 4 low with the front hubs unlocked and just slow walked it out of there with my brother steering the cube van. The way it was hooked actually righted the van and kept it from tipping over as it came up out of the ditch. It sat right up on its wheels as it came up. All the cops and firefighters were blown away that they were able to rig it out of there with so little equipment and so quickly. We pulled a few field cars out of the hedgerow after accidents that way, so we had some experience lol. I'll never forget standing there watching as those 16.5's looked like they were about to rip right off their beads. It's kind of like the slo mo vids of drag slicks wrinkling but sideways. I'd say they were angled about 35 degrees at full tilt. The van was loaded too so it was a lot of weight for that little pickup, but other than those tires doing what they did it didn't sweat it at all. Goes to show what force multiplication can do when you can gear down like that. Same concept as your makeshift block and tackles here.

But, it is even more important that they get paid..for that recovery...many of these tow truck companies have a hard time getting their money from customers.
