Great question. This will require some deeper thought, maybe a video, but off the top of my head I'd say one of the main things is the triangle. A lot of concepts are built in a way that you can pause the play and be able to find the triangle. Nothing special about the shape, but it's a good way to flood an area with 3 spots to attack. You also need the QB footwork to time up with the routes. Your first read has to be able to be thrown by the end of the drop. 2nd read on the hitch. Would be weird to flip these. Also want to go big and then check down to small. Think flood for example. It used to be short to deep for most offenses but shifting more towards deep to short. And every concept is designed in a way to beat defenses. This is why I'm a fan of proven concepts rather than just drawing things up at random. Drive concept, for example, puts the stress on the flat defender 1st (with an 1) out or a 2) drag). 3rd read on the progression is a dig. If neither the out or flat is there, a dig should be running open in a way that is simple for the QB (so he doesn't have to shift his feet foot much). I prefer full field progressions with Gifts and Alerts thrown in there. So on any given play the QB only has 3 reads. This provides the simplicity (for the QB) of a split field concept while also having solutions to multiple problems (assuming it's build out well)
Maybe I’m biased but Nickel is no joke. You can lock someone down all game and the wideout can make that one catch in end zone and they’re a hero and you’re the worst corner ever.
To the general public, yeah for sure. And that sucks 😅But those who study the game know better...I can't think of a single corner who's never been beat..it happens, even to the GOATs of the position. But they lock guys up enough to get the respect of the QBs who choose not to throw at them
