I'm turning 60 this year. Believe me, there is next to NOTHING out there in terms of fashion and makeup for my age range. All the faces and bodies are teenagers and twenty-somethings with bare midriffs. Do a search for 60, and there is an endless array of videos and articles about WHAT YOU CAN'T WEAR, and nothing else!
    *Thank heaven for Wayne Goss*
I come to this channel, and I don't feel invisible, I don't feel talked down to, I don't feel dismissed. Always good, solid advice.
    You're the best! ❤

Amen! I’m 71 & was just out shopping today. As I looked at some of the really adorable summer clothes, I thought, “Oh, to be 17 again & to be able to wear that!” Some things would just look ridiculous on us mature gals. Ditto for lots of the make-up looks. Yay for Wayne!

A lot of the advice for us mature women is downright depressing and discouraging. For years now I've avoided any eyeshadow that was remotely shimmery and I never would have even thought of wearing anything shiny. But I''ve been exploring different makeup channels recently, including this one, and I've learned a few tricks that have changed everything.
One trick is to use concealer on my eyelinds before applying my primer. The other is to tap eyeshadow onto my lid instead of swiping it on. Using that technique and buying really good, finely milled shadows llike Charlotte Tilbury and Pat McGrath, I can wear shimmers and even metallics because tapping the shadow on gives a lovely sheer wash instead of unflattering glitter and gleam.
Wayne's concealer tricks are fantastic, too. I realized I had been apllying it all wrong, and certainly in the wrong place.

Yes, exactly! I’m almost 50 and I had to figure this out myself. Highlight and contour depend so much on face shape that they should change from person to person. But we keep on seeing youtubers saying “highlight goes here, here and here”, as if everybody had the same face. Well, it depends on what is happening on your face. Thanks for teaching us again! 😊

    • @PatsyStone73
      @PatsyStone73 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

So glad Wayne has pointed out that the fat pads move…I was trying to figure out what to do myself, opting for nose, Cupid’s bow instead. I have seen beauty you-tubers do make-overs on their mothers with the same old highlight techniques which, as you say, are not relevant as we don’t all have the same face. It’s most unflattering on a slightly older face for sure.

These are actually good tips for ppl of any age. I see even a lot of teens and 20’s that will highlight for the trend, not for their face, and it shows by doing the opposite of what they THINK they are doing.

I am turning 70 this fall, and I have to be very careful about highlight where on my cheekbones I USED to wear it. I have developed very visible smile lines, so I now genrally put blush on and highlight a bit over the blush.
P.S. Highlight on the tip of the nose is a habit that needs to die and NOT just for older peoole. So many people who do it use WAY too much and look like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer's shinier cousin!!

As a 47-year-old, I appreciate this sort of advice. I've been avoiding getting highlight too high up of my cheekbones because it emphasizes the my crow's feet. I also can't highlight too close to my nose on the tops of my cheeks unless it emphasized the orange peel texture. There's a very small area where I can highlight on my cheeks. I find that a liquid or cream highlight looks way better on my skin than a powder highlight. Unless it's your powder highlight, then it's glorious. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this sort of a video. It's helpful to those of us who still want to wear makeup, but are dealing with changing territory.

I don’t use highlight very often because it just doesn’t look good on me. My emphasis is to elongate my eyes & pull them up by concealing & drawing a thin wing & lots of mascara. I always contour/bronze & bcz I have lip filler, my lips look really nice w/a slight over-line & nude gloss. Oh I wear makeup - no doubt I just can’t go overboard anymore. I will admit, I do miss it sometimes but I’m pretty happy with things most of the time.

Thank you for these aging skin videos! I'm 37 and noticed some years ago that I cannot apply makeup the same way I used to in my 20s and early 30s. It is so frustrating to tell someone what I know I need and have them tell me I don't have mature skin, and then continue applying my makeup like they would on 20 something skin. I'm getting married in a few months and the MUAs I've been to have convinced me to do my own makeup for my wedding. One used highlighter everywhere, both used an airbrush application which I hated and told them that I did, neither application matched my neck or chest and neither wanted to blend the makeup down onto my neck and chest... instead one wanted me to get a spray tan so that he makeup matched my skin better. It was dry and crepey, didn't hide my deep set under eye area at all, and there was way too much blush way high up on my cheekbones which doesn't look good on me. So I'm very appreciative for these videos.

Loving the realness and opening the convo on ageing🥰 personally, I've stopped using highlighter as I couldn't make it do "its thing" anymore. I concentrate on concealer, getting the skin texture filled in with serums, thin layers of foundation and baking power is my saviour, that stuff fills too without cracking! Obvs at night, I am using retinol, in day vitamin c serums and getting really good effect from a really ordinary No 7 factor 50 sunscreen, that actually fills pores, but that's not what it's sold as! I think trying to keep skin hydrated and supple is the best we can do if we can't afford surgeries, and take supplements 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Making sure I have false eyelashes on and good smudged eyeliner is also a godsend, my eyes are my feature even in ageing. They lift everything.

Hi Wayne at 50 highlighter is something I use very sparingly tbh and opt for a pearlescent glow, rather than shimmer or OMG glitter lol. I still have a round face, but my jawline is softening even further and I didn't ever have a really defined jawline anyway. I put my highlight on the top of the cheekbone, but not too far in and I also keep my blush higher too. I sometimes layer the highlighter underneath the blush for a softer look too. I don't contour or use bronzer - I'm the palest of the pale Scottish skin and both look muddy or grey or even oh no orange. A gentle flush gives my face back enough colour to look healthy, but I never ever get a natural tan so bronzer always looks unnatural on me. I will put a little highlight above the brow (not too much wrinkling on the forehead as yet) and the cupid's bow, but not the nose. Shimmer eyeshadow is for the centre of the lid only, with a tiny bit in the inner corner - although I often use a matte white there. More mature people can wear highlighter, but I think we need less and only in very strategic areas. Best wishes.

That highlight on the tip of the nose reminded me so much of Mel T.! Not intentional, I'm sure, but it made me smile all the same. I'm 41 this year, and using balm/creme highlighters that are much more "glowy" than shimmery, but I have to admit it's been a struggle to find ones in any formulation (powder, liquid, etc.) that don't have chunks of glitter in them or emphasize natural skin texture. Great message Wayne!!! I am still amazed when I see some of your old videos with your cheeks being so full and rounded. It is amazing how our faces change over time from our young adult years. At 52, I place highlighter on my cheek bone, inner eye and a thin line on the brow bone. I would never put it on the tip of my nose that I contour but some people on their videos place such a prominent harsh highlighter dot on the tip and it looks so unnatural and strange even as it's too much in the amount which is what I mainly see the younger ladies doing.

I’ve seen you around but have not, until tonight, clicked on one of your videos. I’m so glad I did. I think I thought I wouldn’t relate to you because you were male, but along with your excellent demonstrations and descriptions, I found it so much easier to see the effect you were verbally illustrating, because… 1) You have fair skin 2) You have real life wrinkles 3) You did an excellent job of explaining and demonstrating the technique.
I’m a newbie. Very helpful. Thank you for making this available.

Wayne, you are genius! I am over 50. Yesterday, I was thinking why do I have bags under my eyes where normally I don't. Watching this tutorial, I realized I had put highlighter there and it was emphasizing it. Won't do that again. Thank you, never stop teaching us please.

Thanks, Wayne for the clear instruction on highlighting the mature face. At 62 I'm finding it challenging to keep a fresh and glowy look and so began using highlighter after watching some other makeup artists but wasn't happy with the results. Your video just showed me WHY it wasn't working. Now I'll try again with a lot more understanding of what will work for me.

I see other women with waayy too much highlighter on, and hoping they see your video. 😊 I’m a a certain age 🤣 where I can only wear a touch of it, and that’s over my blush, which I keep up higher on my cheeks, otherwise, it’ll show texture. I found a highlighter that isn’t sparkly, and has no color, just looks dewy when light hits it. The eyes are a real challenge, hooded, and small. I envy the women who have room to be creative with their eye shadow, but we just have to work with what we’ve got ! 😉 You’re looking good, as always, and thanks for
    the info ! Have a nice weekend ! 🦋🌞🌸

These are great tips and I agree with you! I’ve been applying highlighter only in the areas that you are recommending since I was in my early 20s, and now 10 years later, it still looks great and natural. I never cared for the dramatic highlight or any type of contouring. Always love your videos! Thank you 😊

I try and avoid taking a critical look at my face as much as possible!! This is a really useful video, im 58 and find i use less and less highlighter, and shimmer eyeshadows now, i tend to use more matt shadows, and have a matt bronzer that I've been using a lot, its good for doubling as eyeshadow, & blusher day to day. Your tips on where you can use highlighter are really helpful! Wouldnt have though of above the brow bone! Great video, as always! Thank you!

Yes! My fat pads have dropped and there’s just loose skin due to weight loss! So not just aging......lucky me! Fantastic video to remind us to look at our own face shape when contouring and highlighting. You mentioned fixing the dropped fat pads with concealer - I would love to see you demonstrate that technique! Thank you so much! Just received your face palette and blush palette and am enjoying them so very much! 💖

Makes complete sense as I now see why highlight an area of the face that’s not my best part . Definitely I stay away from any high lighter near my chin area because it seems the skin there as we age starts to sag and definitely would love a video on actually concealing that type of problem without an actual procedure, example being the jaw and chin areas where we see that aging skin start to sag. Love to learn a way to kinda conceal that area

I'm 40 but I prefer a glass skin look which I just put a K-beauty toner after powder foundation. I do dab on a wet shimmer stick to get that 1930s wet eyelid look which is very flattering, even though I have hooded eyes. I go for a minimalist French/K-beauty look. I love the fashion/makeup for women in 90s thrillers or French films for inspiration, they look AMAZING.
