This is a game changer! Thank you so much. I have used it for two hats now, and it works perfectly. I presume I could do the same with socks ( which I intend to learn to knit one of these days. I wish I had known about this method twenty hats ago
Great to get such good feedback Sandy thanks so much. It’s not really handy for socks because they’re a really narrow tube, but there are lots of ways to knit socks: a set of DPNs, king circular (magic loop), 2 circulars or even a really short circular (just 9-10 inches). You use similar methods to make mittens or gloves, which I love doing as they’re quicker than socks. I’d suggest starting with slipper/house socks in bulky/Aran yarn so they knit up quick as you get the hang of things. Happy knitting, Janine
Love that this video is helping you knit socks right now 😄 Knitting fine socks is slow going but can be addictive! Thanks for sharing & happy knitting.
Thank you so very much for this information…it is a god send…I knit hats for cancer patients…this will help me and make a better looking cap. Betty Robinson
You’re so welcome Betty & it’s so good of you to knit chemo caps. I’ve made a few myself and found that knitting them in the round worked best so there was no seam. Knitting the top with the common DPN or magic loop methods gives a nice neat finish too, so it’s just personal preference or whatever needles you have available. Also in case it helps: my patient found a variety of hat weights handy - fine 4 ply hats are for night time, dk for day and worsted/aran hats for outdoor. Hope this helps & thanks for doing so much good with your knitting 😊
So glad it helped you 🥳 another method you could try is magic loop (where you knit the entire hat etc with a long circular). I’ve a new 10 min tutorial at th-cam.com/video/qtQNN6IDfhA/w-d-xo.html
Yes you could use it for that in exactly the same way, but a cuff and lower part of sleeve is a lot more knitting so using magic loop would be quicker & more enjoyable. I’ve a magic loop beginners tutorial here th-cam.com/video/qtQNN6IDfhA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cCS3nKJJYnihhQxg Alternatively you can get very short circulars (less than 30cm) which are a handy way to knit sleeves. The spare needle technique in this demo is really just a way to finish a few rounds of a hat or similar without needing to learn much else or have other needles. Hope this helps, Janine

Thank you! I’ve been struggling with dpns and using just one with the circular is a great tip 👍

Thanks Sandy. So glad you like the idea. I hadn’t seen this method elsewhere thought I’d share it as the more options the better in knitting 😊

Wow, great job, good to know this, ty!
Thanks for another lovely comment - much appreciated! :)
Does this work for sleeve cuffs k1 p1? Would you move the stitches differently?
