Great blend of (justifiable) ranting, useful advice and entertainment Tim😂 With you on insurance, my car insurance, up 51%, no claims, same car, when challenged, they said “it’s inflation”😂 Oh ok, thanks. Got it down to 30%. And I say exactly what you said (who’s buying these houses??). As you said, running and just getting outside is free. Race costs for big events are high but good tips from you and I never pay full price for shoes, you just need to look around😊

Top Tip *if you volunteer or be a pacer at a race they will normally let you run another race for free * also it helps the running community as we can’t do it without the volunteers. It's a great channel, because I am a running addict I watch a lot of running content and some of it is very informative and some of it is sheer promotion fest But this channel is refreshing, it's pared down, no fancy pants twattery and there is no better humour than sarcasm.. There is a charity called ‘kit squad’ based in Shropshire, they supply clothing and equipment to low income families who want to get outdoors, it’s all donated. We did a 10k race last week and the race organiser stated they were going to be there so we took some kit along, they ended up with 5 bags full of kit ready to donate 😊

I'm really feeling this too with the cost of living, I have done 2 HM events so far with a PB of 1:36:45, I'm doing an ultra marathon in 2 weeks, and I cover on average 50-70km per week, all in primark running trainers, really not the best but you have to do what you can do, I'd love to treat myself to pair of good running shoes, but at the moment I just can't afford it

What I would say about joining a running club is the social side as well. We have a bar and meet up for park runs and car share to races. Great team spirit that you can't get with a online club.
To be honest, I will join one with real people in the future. Met some quality people running.
£45 for full time students and over 65's a YEAR! With membership to England Athletics, free entry to the sutton road relays twice a year, 4 XC races in the Birmingham and District league and the chance of a London marathon place. Have a look at our website. West bromwich harriers. Would be fantastic if you came to one of our training sessions to show your viewers that not all running clubs are only for the fastest.

I did look and it was the Birmingham running festival the following day also in Sutton park but opted for the winter warmer event as it was £10 cheaper and it started earlier. Spot on. First thing any homeless bloke does these days is take the piss out of my insurance premium. Had enough.
I've got some empirical evidence here. Old Barnsley 6 Road Race in 1974. 20p to enter. New Barnsley 10k 2024. £26. Inflation would have seen it at £2.61. And this is a club and council supported event not a profit events company.

Yep. Genuinely feel for event organisers. Margins are fine. Need to share those races that are a bit special.

The corporate races cost a bomb. Here in Japan too. I just paid 200 quid just to enter the Aso Volcano 115km Trail Race, although they say part of the fee goes to 'land conservation' etc. Plus I need one night in a hotel and transportation there and back. Nuts. I can only afford this type of race once a year. Luckily there are some cheap local races though, including my university's annual 89km walking event, which we are allowed to run and costs about 7 quid. Lovely.

I can never believe how CHEAP home insurance is in U.K. I live in Canada and have just renewed my insurance which cost $3377. Granted it is a wooden house but it is still way more expensive than what I would pay in U.K. By the way , when I first did the London marathon it cost me 6 pounds. No idea what it costs now but I am sure that somebody will tell me.
