  • If a traumatic injury or sexually transmitted disease creates scar tissue in the urine channel, it can block urine flow. A procedure called urethroplasty removes the scar tissue so that urine can pass through again. Urologist Nicolas Ortiz, MD, explains the procedure and the recovery process.

Urethroplasty is the reconstruction of the urethra due to traumatic injury and sometimes from sexually transmitted diseases. Patients are able to undergo reconstruction and go home the same day. They usually do have a catheter that needs to stay in for a few weeks. But after this, they usually have a high success rate and they're able to void on their own.
Urethroplasty, depending on whether we just do a removal of the scar versus the use of a graft to reconstruct the urethra, can take as little as 90 minutes and sometimes it can take up to four or five hours in the more complex cases.
Recovery from urethroplasty usually takes three to four weeks. They usually get to go home the same day after surgery. The pain is generally well controlled. Most of the time they return to our clinic and we remove the catheter after doing an imaging test to ensure that the area has healed. And after that, the catheter comes out and they have generally no other restrictions.

When a TURP Procedure is done , how is the urethral wall penetrated to get at the prostate gland tissue ? Is an incision made in the wall ?

I have scar tissues in one of my kidney after removing the stent and it is painful. How can the scar tissue be removed?

Okay so once you cut the scar using "scar cutting unit in Catheter based robot" you are going to use another well engineered unit called "suturing unit", engineering solves problems. The best thing about this mechanism is you are going to invert it like catheter, "And this is going to do the job of cutting scar and suturing graft of urethra itself, WITHOUT SURGICAL KNIFE AND MAKING INCESION IN YOU WINKEY" Trust my hypothesis.

Yes, but due to contracture of the buccal mucosal graft over time, the risk of stricture recurrence can last well past the urethroplasty. Lifetime follow up is recommended. You will not have this problem with anastomotic urethroplasty.

Despite possible failure, BMG urethroplasty still holds up well in the long-term. You shouldn’t take this as an inevitability of failure. Success is highly dependent on multiple variables, taking into account age at surgery, graft type (BMG has best success rates compared to other skin grafts), surgeon experience, length of stricture, previous intervention, obesity, etc.

I go for my imaging test today and removal pending image results. Currently at a month and a half for the Suprapubic catheter and 2 and a half weeks for Foley catheter. Procedure done was end to end, not a BMG.

December 7 of last year I accidentally shot myself in the penis while cleaning a firearm, this resulted in me having to have emergency surgery and they fixed my blood stream for erections, and also checked my testicals and they were fine. they also put in a foley catheter and suprapubic catheter. about 4 months ago they removed the foley and i’ve been wearing just a suprapubic. I was hoping I would be able to finally pee after getting the foley removed but that wasn’t the case, instead a lot of scar tissue formed in my urethra and they ran dye through my urethra and the dye did not reach all places of it meaning my case is way worse. the doctor explained it as I barely have any actual good tissue left and the surgery will be very difficult. please send prayers my way, I don’t want to wear a catheter for the rest of my life. I’m only 19…
