MTG are fixing this : Universes Beyond being legal to standard makes KARVANISTA of Doctor Who set an amazing Human selesnya booster. In Blue White Green, with MArtha Jones, Danny Pink, Sarah Jane Smith
This is the first episode in this series that doesn't mention The One Ring as a culprit. The Age Of Men may be over, but at least they didn't fall to Sauron.
We're actually seeing something similar in Legacy with Death & Taxes right now. A toolbox of small creatures and disruption just isn't enough at this point, and a deck that used to dominate the format just . . . _doesn't_ anymore. Real shame, that.
Love the dives into previous Modern metagames. As a player of old Amulet Titan (pre-Modern Horizons), I remember the period in which 5C Humans was a dominant deck. It's weird to think of now, but the aggressive curve, disruption, and unbeatable board was a huge boogeyman that most top decks dedicated significant sideboard slots to fight. Old Titan decks used to run horrible cards like Firespout and Kozilek's Return just to have a chance against the human hordes. Remember when people were actually scared of losing to Mantis Rider? Modern, we hardly knew ye...
These videos are truly so high quality. You really do a perfect job at describing the deck, then and now, and the steps to get there. I get to psyched when i see you uploaded.
I personally think Humans, Spirits, and Merfolk are still solid in Modern. Not “completely unplayable.” We have Satoru, Harbinger of the Seas, and Apparition to lock people out, exile The One Ring, and massive draw. Not pretending they’re as good as they once were. But last league with Spirits was a 4-1. I think Vial decks are a little underrrated.
This is the real advantage of current meta - there are top decks, best strategies, all of this, but if you know your own deck and the meta well enough, you can still perform. Plenty of rogue decks out there
Tribal decks as a whole have completely disappeared from modern after mh1. Merfolk is the only tribal deck that has been able to maintain and that is only due to a variety of very specific support cards that are extra pushed to make it playable in the current game
I really like this video, visiting tribes that don't work in modern should be a serie: What i'd really like to see, along with some few people, based on the video of "Random Card Talking; Sculpted Perfection" by Chorocojo I believe you should visit one particular tribe: Phyrexians. Not necessarily talking about a particular succesful deck from the past, but of a lack of it, where only a few single powerful cards are present in the format right now (Atraxa, grand unifier and Sheoldrd the apocalypse) and the presence of some few non-legendary that were there more as hate-bears than actual power houses (phyrexian Revoker, Phyrexian Censor, Plague Engineer). That video should talk of the lack of cohesion in the Phyrexian tribe where synergy is more there as a cardboard cutout of Humans or Eldrazi, but really isn't there. Lore-wise it makes sense to lack that synergy, because of their different philosophies but also their gameplay, preventing them from truly working together. but for the eternal formats, it's just jarring to not be able to play that way.
Modern feels like a past format to me at this point. I played both spirits and humans for a bit (more spirits tho) and I loved the feeling of playing tribal overall. Shame it’s not that great anymore.

Stompy was never a "Good" Deck but it had an AMAZING matchup vs Burn and Splinter Twin and a decent matchup vs Tron and Affinity post-board. It was also really cheap, like $40 cheap.
HUMANS is so powerful! Either monowhite , or selesnya...In pauper they have so much potential !! MTG are fixing this : Universes Beyond being legal to standard makes KARVANISTA of Doctor Who set an amazing Human selesnya booster
@@HPuzzleYT if they make it for new and not old, let me tell you I bet they will be confronted by some players. I don'T care. I just thought that the change was meaning that. If not : just ignore what i said for the non-commander formats
Nah, I like 'em. It gives me my reminder that Reddit is a miserable hellhole filled with the absolute dumbest and worst people imaginable without me having to go to Reddit.
Any chance you could cover Tron? I’m familiar with its prevalence in Pauper, and I knew it used to be very good in modern’s past, but I’m curious to know what happened to it. Btw, I love these videos, keep it up!
It's actually still somewhat viable, believe it or not. Cards like The One Ring, Karn (the Great Creator), and half of MH3 have kept the deck afloat, to the enjoyable frustration of SaffronOlive.
So, tron was very much still a top tier deck as recently as pre-mh3. It's not *good* nowadays, eldrazi ramp is just better, but its nowhere near Humans level unplayable. MH3 was genuinely devestating to the modern metagame.
My eyes couldn't handle the lights when I recorded, so I'm a little cunty in this one.
Anyways, what deck should I cover next?
Death's Shadow!!!
Id like to see a history of Storm and its adaptations

Mardu Pyromancer please!
Or something off-beat like Soul Sisters or Superfriends.

Hey, if there's one thing Meddling Mage is good at, it's naming key cards
I learned a lot and enjoyed your 80s aesthetic.

Or Reflector Mage being a legitimate concern! Nowadays 3 mana temporary removal on a body sounds so bad lol

The production value on this series is incredible, i love your formating and the writing is really great.
Total Horizons Death
Elder Dragon Highlander and its consequences have been a disaster for the Modern Format.
The sunglasses are 🔥😂
Goes well with the thumbnail.
All that banger music really flowed with the ongoing tone which kept the storytelling really easy to follow and super hype !
i wish zombies were a viable tribe
Pretty much all mono-type decks are . . . not _completely_ dead, but sitting firmly in the Jobber category. Sad but true.
They are and have always been
they are great in yugioh
I am officially unplayable now
Excellent video as always.

Also incubator is a failure.
I didn't even think about Satoru with Aether Vial and Norin. Shame about the whole Bowmasters thing
As a pub stomper with my human commander deck, it's literally unplayable - I'm winning too much
Imma Rule Zero Humans out just for you 😘
@HPuzzleYT thank you lord HPuzzleYT for saving me, now we can have fun again 🙏

What about the monowhite version? It's got some stuff.
Magic modern hates tribal decks
pour one out for all decks that used to be fun to play i wish i could have Death and Tax cake and eat it too.
Unplayable is a good topic. What about Ultraplayable: Energy?
Has there been any success with mono green stompy in modern?
In the past I think there has been some fringe playability
Stompy was never a "Good" Deck but it had an AMAZING matchup vs Burn and Splinter Twin and a decent matchup vs Tron and Affinity post-board. It was also really cheap, like $40 cheap.
Silly request but, could you do unplayable for dragons? 😅
Engagement

Does the UB announcement affect older cards?

As funny as it would be to see the One Ring and Orcish Bowmasters in Standard and Pioneer, the change is only for future draftable UB sets.
Humans straight up suck.
Not interesting, no good keywords, and typically quite weak
plzz no more mtg meme's!
We're slowing it down to monthly for now
@@HPuzzleYT mtg memes are kind of fun though, I really enjoy watching them.

No one stopped playing Tron, they just changed what they were playing in Tron.
