The fact that Qual was able to dissect 80 years worth of defensive magic evolution in the span of 1 minute speaks volumes of how much of a genius he was.

And he defined Fern's fighting style too.

Frieren claims she doesn't know anything about her old friends or about Fern but she keeps remembering the smallest details.
Last episode Fern said they learned a spell to make grapes sour and in this episode's flashback Eisen told her his favorite food was sour grapes.
She also not only remembered Fern's birthday, but gave her a butterfly-shaped hair ornament while apologizing for not knowing what she likes despite the fact that she does know that she likes sweets and that during last episode we saw Fern's memory of why she chose to become a mage and it showed her making Heiter happy by creating magic glowing butterflies, which is probably a story they shared with her during the years she spent translating Heiter's book.

but in remembering the past, Frieren sometimes realizes things now she didn't at the time.

@@MichaelRBrown-lh6kn Yes, while remembering her time with them she realizes things and gets a better understanding of them, but it's not that she didn't know anything about them like she claims. She knows a ton of things about all of them, she just doesn't understand what some of those things mean until it hits her when she contrasts it with somethng that's happening to her in the present.

1:18 "can't they just create more funds"
Actually even if that was possible it would be a very dangerous spell, the moments it becomes widespread you enter hyper devaluation of the money used, it would be just like when a country print too much money (money printer goes Brrrrr). In one of the RPG I'm playing the dominant magic organisation even have laws in place against creating monetary value with magic out of fear of disturbing the economy on a wide scale.

That's actually a topic in many novels that feature magic.
They handle it in different ways. Some novels have some sort of "seal of authenticity" that excludes magically created coins, others limit the amount of coinage or use a currency that magic can't (easily) replicate, yet others have mages actively prohibit and hunt down other mages that flood the market with important resources because they're devaluing the wealth of the other mages by doing so.
In some universes the cost of conjuring gold is based on proximity to actual deposits - gold is therefore exceedingly hard to summon in populated areas as generations of mages would have summoned all nearby deposits not previously mined by the kingdoms and any existing gold would be in some way protected to prevent mages "summoning" the contents of your wallet, so it would be uneconomical for them to try and summoning more would require braving the dangers of wilderness and the effort of travel and transport.
      It's really interesting.
Personally I think the market would simply adjust the value of goods based on how easy it is to produce it by any means, magical or not. So if gold was easy to conjure or mine with magic, they'd simply value processed goods or something mages CAN'T summon more. Jewellery instead of ingots, cut gems instead of unprocessed gemstones, enchanted items instead of raw currency, rare magical plants instead of inanimate matter if mages can summon them all, etc. tt.
As magic is almost never free in such universes, there is usually a bottom to the price of anything they can conjure magically. Often there's also the wrinkle that an experienced wizard can use the same mana to do tasks that pay more gold than they could directly summon with it.
      I. e. if they can use all of their mana for the day to summon 1 kg of gold, but that same mana would let them enchant a city wall to repel arrows for a lord that would pay 2 kg in gold for the task, mages just wouldn't summon gold unless they could not get a better paying job.

I don't think that's what that signified. He said prior that a lot of people there in that village wear those hats because of the sun. I don't think those are headstones more than they are, say, just for decoration. Since they seem to be along roadways or trails you can walk by.

@@Hyonam You are right that it shows things, but to further aid in my belief, he also says before she leaves that he's going to live a lot longer due to her defeating Qual.
But please, feel free to believe what you want. No harm done. You have a good one as well! Hope you enjoy the show!

the scene in the tavern with the adventurers is hilarious, tho many reactors don't seem to pick up on this.
Its as if a cute little girl were to go into the scariest biker bar and ask for a good place to get ice cream!
In this case, Frieren is herself an adventurer and very powerful, so she is in no way scared or intimidated. You'll learn why in coming episodes.... as well as this one.
