- I replaced my home made FC-7 foot pedal for my Roland BK-7m backing module with a DIY wireless foot pedal made from a Roland FC-100 foot pedal, a CME WIDI CORE X wireless MIDI module, an Adafruit 328P micro processor and some magic code to make it all work.
In the future I want to control the BK-7m volume using through this and also expand the use of the foot switches to control some of my accordion settings.
Great idea. I just bought an FC100 and plan to rebuild it to become a wired FC7 replacement for my BK-7M. What you have done could have been a nice option and a way to get rid of the wires, but I don't have enough knowledge regarding wireless MIDI, so I guess I will stick with the wired setup for now.
The electronics is pretty easy. Plenty of Arduino and similar stuff online, easy to learn. It's figuring out all the switch interactions and midi commands to send that's the pain. I still need to 'tweak' my code in a couple of places to fix a couple of small problems. I've actually found the WIDI bluetooth midi to be not 100% reliable. I played a small gig yesterday for a seniors group and had so much interference that the bluetooth was not really usable. From now on I'm taking wires as well as a backup. I like the freedom from wires but if it's not reliable you have to question it's value. Still, as an exercise, building this thing has been fun and interesting.
Amazing video!!! Thank you so much for sharing. Are you sending PC and CC messages from your footpedal to change BK7 fills and start/stop functions?
Wow. I wish I could do this for my ewi1000
G-day mate great vid - any chance you have wiring/schematic for ROLAND FC-7 you can share? as I don't need wireless but want to build wired FC-7 replacement. Cheers :)
