Civ 5 AI Only Timelapse: Gates to Neverland

  • There are six giant death robots programmed to protect untouched nature from the wild tribes of human beings that swallow and destroy everything they touch, meanwhile, human beings are highly interested in this beautiful land with bizarre animals and oil fields that just sit and wait to be swallowed up. But every expedition is very expensive and requires resources that could help in the homeland and the worst part is even the most advanced expedition have a slight chance of success. So maybe the game is not worth the candle and it is more important to focus on the local problems, avoiding unnecessary risks. Time to find out if fortune favors the bold or smart.
    I used Community Patch (global modification of AI and bug fix) forums.civfana... for this battle.

    I like how England and Sweden sort of mirrored each other for most of this game. England was the growing Titan in the West while Sweden was a defensive might in the East.
    It was also super cool to see how small the homeland capitals of the colonial nations were- like, you could just tell that the political situation would be divisive, all the power being in the capital when most of the wealth and people existed in the colonies.
    I could imagine the people calling cities like a Tokyo and Munich the Southern capitals or true capitals and such.
    This was a fun one!

    Hmm... the barbarians made it so costly to colonize that it made conquest the way more advantageous strategy. By the time the AI manage to get a settler in, the conquering nations was far too ahead for any benefit of colonization to balance it. The main value the colonies gave was a way to hide from England a little longer.

    • @toxicpanda36
      @toxicpanda36 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, by the time cities were founded in the new world, England only conquered one or two cities, and countries like japan had a real chance of catching up to England had they been quicker and more aggressive with the expansion phase, same with Germany who should've focused oh taking out Denmark as soon add possible. One you have the coasts secure, it's only a matter of keeping reserve units in case of nukes and preventing units from disembarking

    Shame to see that Japan's control of the tiles leading to the expansion in the lower half of the screen didn't seem to do much. It was a clever tactic. Would be interesting to see what would have happened on a similar map where the water was replaced by desert, for example, cutting off England's naval advantage.

    Japan was really strong there for a while but I think what did them in was their failure to conquer all of neverland. As soon as England finished off Sweden with Japan still dealing with Germany and Denmark it was over.

    • @TheWalpurgisnacht
      @TheWalpurgisnacht 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The German also should have taken the Denmark city first to win the war against Japan. Although Denmark became a some kind of buffer state after Japan took Munich, the distance between their two cities make them lose momentum against Japan

    • @kakerake6018
      @kakerake6018 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True if Japan had focused on taking Neverland the English would've had a very hard time dealing with them

    • @TheWalpurgisnacht
      @TheWalpurgisnacht 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hydrogen Peroxide indeed, Japan already had the advantage of two connected cities in Neverland, but the German's defence is too strong I think. If Japan commited more to the conquest of Neverland and able to conquer Munich much more early, they could have much more easier time controlling Neverland and perhaps stopping the British onslaught.

    The thing that's always annoyed me about Civ games is the AI. You'd expect harder difficulties to increase the skill and intelligence of the AI. But all it increases is the cheaty bonuses they get and the penalties you get. The AI remains as stupid on Deity as it is on Settler.

    • @nobodyishereandnothingwill
      @nobodyishereandnothingwill 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A Civ game is a state space with an incredibly high branching-factor. Designing good AI using classical methods is difficult for a grand strategy game like that, especially if you want decisions to be made relatively quickly. I suspect they could make some better heuristics for the AI, but that's about it.

    Seems like the biggest advantage in this wasn't land or cities, but managing to limit the size of your front. Both England and Sweden were positioned in a way that made it easy for them to defend their holdings, and it made an enormous difference for them. Ultimately, nothing else mattered.

If he was smart about capturing barbarian forts, he might have built an army in the southern region before anyone could settle since the barbarians had such a strong presence on the coastline. The moment he settled on the coast tho, he opened up the south for other nations to settle, and that was his downfall.

    Then, the civ who sealed the gate could pump settlers through it, completely taking over the neverland, and by then it will be too late for anyone else to stop them.

      @@johnroscoe2406 No. It's "wreak havoc." "Wreck havoc" is not correct. Just because a bunch of people use "literally" to mean its antonym "figuratively" doesn't make it right.

      @@encycl07pedia- Regardless, both have been used and both have been considered correct. It's not a blatant error like literal and figurative with Gen Z kids. Spare me your attitude. I am much, much more educated in this language than you are. And I am much older and more worldly than you. You're just a self absorbed ass on social media giving himself cringey names like a 20something kid would do.

      You can't say you're educated at all in English when you don't know that 20-something requires a hyphen. If you're older than me, you sure as heck don't act like it. And I'm not a 20-something, either.

    Polynesia completely wasted their ability to have settlers in the water from the start. If only they had managed to capitalize on it then they would have won.

    I know this video is old, but perhaps try this setup again using the Barbarians Evolved mod? With the GDRs not being able to take cities, they dissappeared after sacking the colonial cities. But with Barbs Evolved they could take the cities instead, causing them to be a real threat for longer in the Neverlands.
